He even met with us after installation to explain the almost incomprehensible PG&E bill. Although not the least expensive bid, his was competitive and I felt he was as interested in educating me about solar and the various types of panels and inverter systems as he was in selling a system. He demonstrated how the array of panels would meet our energy needs and as opposed to some of the other companies, wasn't selling us more than we needed. " Mr. Joshua Brown is truly a professional handyman and an individual with strong character.  He skillfully and quickly hung all my paintings and mirrors the following day and had finished with the first coat of paint in the master bedroom when he decided to take a look at my brand new dryer that wasn't working.  I had a feeling that the person that had installed it for me had not done it properly.  Mr. Brown, tried several different scenarios that all led to the fact that the dryer was working properly--it was heating up the clothes but they were still wet.  Mr. Brown had the thought to go outside to the vent to feel the stream of air that the dryer should have been pushing out.  That's when Mr. Brown realized that no air was being pushed out by the dryer--he realized that there had to be something blocking the air flow to the outside which was why the clothes were heating up but the humidity had no where to go so the clothes stayed damp.  Mr Brown cleverly took a coat hanger and straightened it out and pushed it as far as he could down the tube that leads from the dryer to the wall, through the garage and to the outside--and pulled out a watermelon sized ball of NASTY lint, hair, dust, etc that had been stuck there for at least 10 years!  Like I said, I have just moved in to this place and was horrified by what he discovered and then relieved when he told me that if he had not detected this, not only would the dryer continue to not work but it was just a matter of time before I had a house fire.  The tightly packed pile of lint, dust, etc is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE and I believe that Mr. Joshua Brown saved my life that day. 
What I would like to say about Mr. Brown is that he doesn't give up when his first attempt at fixing something doesn't work.  He is tenacious and diligent and takes pride in his work.  His skills cross many disciplines from painting to appliances to construction.  One additional skill that he possesses which is hard to find, is that he is a visualizer.  I have several ideas for future projects and he was able to visualize my project and make recommendations and suggestions based on what I described.  I liked that I could kind of give him the overarching idea of what I wanted to do and he could tell me the exact steps to take to get me there.  I enjoyed his happy disposition and was very comfortable continuing on with my daily routines at the house while he was there.  I highly recommend Mr. Joshua Brown and will be using his services again myself very soon.

"I pay a monthly fee to CHW for insurance against equipment failure. Over a month ago CHW sent a repair technician to fix both of my garage doors, the technician made an adjustment on one door and chanced the opener on the other. A week or so ago the second door failed to open. Yes, my door opener is old, but the Warrantee says, if it can’t be fixed it will be replaced. CHW paid the tech $100 and said the rest $200 is on me. Please tell me why I should stay with CHW if I have to pay 2/3rds of the cost to replace the door opener? On a separate issue: Granted I accepted CHW’s offer of a Lowe’s card to replace my dishwasher, because I was unaware of how much dishwashers sell for, it cost me an additional 300. Again, please give me a reason for staying with CHW"

"Ybarra Professional Builders did 2 big plumbing projects on my house and property. Not only did they install a brand-new main water line to replace the old leaking galvanized steel pipe, but they also re-piped my house's plumbing as it was also made from that same rusting out galvanized steel. I also had some other major work done by them at the same time (tree removal and sprinkler repair) but since Home Advisor asked for a specific type of project for this review, I will only review the plumbing projects. Vlad was the project manager for all of these projects. He coordinated all of the sub-contractors' work and got the projects done in a timely manner. There were none of the time issues that I had heard about with other contractors, such as waiting weeks between one phase of a project to get the next one started-after one phase was done, the next phase would begin with no more than a day or two in between. He was very pleasant and very patient with my many questions and concerns and kept me up-to-date with what was happening. The project that I most dreaded, the house plumbing re-piping, was not as bad as I thought it would be, to my great relief. All of the people who I dealt with at Ybarra were pleasant and professional, from the sub-contractors to the office staff. I think the quality of the work performed was very good. In the additional clean-up phase, the holes in the drywall where the plumbing had been re-piped were patched and painted, and the concrete where the driveway had to be cut to replace the main water line was re-poured. This portion of the project was available as an additional cost, but the workmanship was very good. I had heard and read many horror stories about dealing with contractors so working with this group was a pleasant surprise. Thank you, Vlad."

I let my neighbor know I was interested in turning my dingy, overcrowded garage into a maker shop space for electronics projects and 3d printing. My garage floor had 25 years of wear on it by a previous owner who likely serviced and removed engines inside it. There were severe oil stains and gouges from impact along with many cracks from natural foundation settling. I needed a clean work space and still have the storage functionality of a garage. My wife wanted a craft and hobby space of her own for woodwork and sewing. We both agreed, the key to this was the flooring.

My neighbor used his Angie's List account to make a short-list of contractors for me. I'm glad I did that because this led me to Mark at Garage Experts. I contacted him and we set up an appointment to review my options and provide a quote. He's obviously a pretty busy business operation with large commercial contracts-but, he still treated me as if my business was just as important. I had expressed that I wanted an epoxy floor for my 25 year old garage floor. I was surprised when he advised against it and explained to me some of the newer technologies available. He also explained the work that was involved in removing a significant amount of the existing floor surface to insure longevity, adhesion and quality. I was a little skeptical, especially as I thought the price seemed a little lower than what I was expecting. I did some research and I started to learn why a polyaspartic coating was superior to epoxy. I called him back and we narrowed down the time window for the installation. I was surprised he was going to be available during a Thanksgiving week. We later worked out what color options I wanted and, guys, if you're reading this, insist on your wife being there for this part! With the color options set, I had my work cut out to remove all of the contents of my garage over the next two weeks. That was a lot of work but well worth it.

Fast forward to Thanksgiving week, installation day finally arrived and the garage is empty of virtually everything. A two person crew shows up in the morning and begins work at about 8AM. They spent the entire morning prepping the surface and removing the top few mills using some impressive heavy equipment that must have cost a fortune. The floor almost looked freshly poured at this point. Then they began laying down the base coat and the floor looked beautiful and clean. In the mid afternoon I checked on their progress as I tried to not make the guys too uncomfortable with being overly supervised. The crew, by the way, were friendly and explained the whole process to me in depth. By this time they were spreading the color flakes and which started to give the space a feel for what the final outcome would look like. By about 4PM, the crew began applying the top coating which sealed in the flakes and the floor was shining brilliantly. It was an amazing transformation-but, I would have to wait at least 24 hrs before I could actually go in and really check it out. The crew cleaned up and finally left about 6PM and I made sure to tip them appropriately. Word of caution here, during the curing of the top coat, there was some significant off-gassing. It was bad enough for me to use the house fan to force fresh air into the upstairs room where the odor was accumulating and making me feel a little loopy.

The garage floor was stunning beautiful. Incredible transformation. The settling cracks and gouges were gone or filled in nicely. The floor had a uniform appearance and I was in awe at how clean it looked and felt now. Mark came personally to review the workmanship of his crew and answered all of my questions. 

Its now two months since the installation. I love it. My wife loves it. It has an incredible aesthetic quality to it that  it did not have before. The garage is now a functional workshop and maker space and I spend the majority of my hobby/leisure time in there now! "Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."
