"When I called Smaller Deliveries, they were very helpful in helping me decide upon the best product and estimate of the appropriate quantity of gravel to repair my driveway.  The drive arrived on time and helped me spread the gravel by slowly dumping it as he drove forward, and then by helping me rake it into place.  This was very helpful, as I was all by myself on this project.  He also helped me plan for a couple of future loads of soil that I will need on a lawn care project.  I will definitely use Smaller Deliveries again!"

"My driveway concrete aggregate was flaking off badly. What should I do: resurface, new concrete, pavers? I looked at all options and decided on pavers. Not much more expensive than a concrete repour, pavers would definitely be an upgrade from the aggregate driveway. July 2019 I hired CD Pavers to replace my driveway. It required only 3 days. CD Pavers representative explained both the process and the product employed in my project with actual samples, pictures and brochures. I made an unannounced visit to a large paving project in Shoreline and visited with the workers at the site. I shook hands and took a couple of cellphone photos. That’s when I decided this was my company. The pleasant surprise was how affordable the project would be compared to estimates I received from other companies. And, they had a nontransferable lifetime guarantee of their work. I also opted for the sealant spray of the new pavers and existing aggregate concrete surfaces. What I liked about CD Pavers: 1. PREP for job: Complete explanation of the scope of work and materials to be used was provided before contract signed. The contractor obtained underground utility mapping to protect lines running under and near the driveway. 2. DEMOLITION: The old driveway was removed, and construction debris hauled off on first day. Safety markings were placed at the sidewalk. 3. PAVER INSTALL: ground leveled, plastic ground cover followed by pea gravel and sand; compaction equipment used on those layers. Pavers placed in one day including sand “grout” vibrated into the gaps between pavers. Mindful of off driveway water drainage. 4. ADDED TOUCH: graciously placed a boarder along entry walkway at no additional charge. 5. HOMEOWNER CARE: Protected driveway apron, roadway asphalt, sidewalk from damage and soilage by construction equipment. Replaced a sprinkler head accidently broken during paver work. Cleanup complete and unused paver product stacked neatly in side-yard for the homeowner. Carey, the owner of CD Pavers visited the project site and inquired how everything was going with the project. He wanted to make sure I was happy with all aspects of the work to date, and wanted to hear if I had any concerns. Would I employ CD pavers for more paver projects at my home? Absolutely yes. I was impressed by the quality of the work, concern and respectful interaction with the homeowner, and affordability of the job. They do excellent work."

"Great! They had a great selection of surfaces; we initially went in looking at quartz countertops, but once we saw their beautiful granite surfaces, we changed our mind and went with granite. They helped us find the slabs that suited us, and then worked with us to identify the best sections of the slab for our needs. The cutting and preparation was precise, and the final product outstanding. We couldn't be more pleased with the entire process. The installation team was very skilled and professional. They were polite easy to work with, and very careful with the cabinets, the new oak floor, and other items in the kitchen. We are thrilled with our new countertops. We will return to ProGranite for our next project."

"Sia and his crew did a stellar job on my new concrete driveway conversion from gravel and block planter wall in front of the house! After a prompt free estimate and due diligence, I found Step Up's estimate to be the most competitive and fairly priced. They were always very communicative and promptly showed up when they said they would everyday. Throughout the whole process, they kept the work area clean during the day and at the end of the day before leaving. In the end, both the concrete driveway and block wall turned out great, couldn't be happier with their work!"

"We went to look at some tile there. It's a commercial open to the public tile store there and the company that did the kitchen floor tile for us purchased the tile from them. We had been to several tile stores trying to pick out a floor tile. I don't remember the cost because it was part of the total package. They had a good selection. We had gone to several tile stores and it was just a matter of trying to find a tile that we liked the look of. It was just the matter of taste in terms of the fact that they happened to have a tile that we liked the looks of. It wasn't like when you go to buy a shirt or a piece of clothing or something. They were fine for a retail store. We didn't have to draw upon any expertise or service from them other than the fact that they had a showroom where we were able to pick out a tile that we liked. Our experience was average. They had a showroom and they had a lot of tile to look at and we found a tile that we liked. There wasn't anything especially challenging for them or for us. There was a wide range of tile and it was not like we found two places having the same tile. We just happened to find a tile that was within the range of what we were looking for."

"Rather a large project (started out at $20k and we added on some additional work for $10k more). Rotting railroad tie retaining walls (previous owner several decades earlier) removed and replaced with 2-3 man basalt rocks (300-800lb). Steps put also put into a retaining wall going to a patio. Large, well executed operation with the ability to put big rocks in tight places/structures. Estimate was on target along with communication/time expected. Work done August 2018 and is holding up like it was just installed."

"Michael Swope is quite amiable and congenial. He was able to come on short notice to give me a bid, and overall was flexible about scheduling. His price seemed fair and in line with other bids I got. We agreed he'd do the work and had to wait for a break in the weather but I was on a deadline so we were challenged in this respect. When we thought we had a weather window, he and his crew came out and got the work done in one day. Unfortunately, the ground was frozen so he had to bring in an excavator to level out the site. (I learned this after the fact, as I was not home when he did it.) In the course of doing that, he caused a lot of damage to the surrounding walkways and installed edging. He didn't seem to notice the damage and didn't bring it to my attention, and I didn't see it until the weekend came and I had a chance to look at the area in the daylight. When I told Michael about it, he seemed eager to make the situation right. Since the edging can't be repaired until summer, we worked out a deal for his crew to move the excavated dirt out of the way for me and clean up the remnants of the concrete form, get his equipment out of there, etc. But the crew sent to do that work did it wrong and made the mess even worse. I can't really say where the communications broke down--once his guy showed up while I was there and I could speak directly to him about what was needed, the guy did what I wanted. But then he left his equipment on my property again and I had to move it out of the way several times to create access for the recycling, etc. Despite emailing Michael to come get it, it took more than a week for him to pick it up and I still have an old tarp they left behind that I'll have to dispose of. I really wanted to write a better review because Michael is very nice and, I think, well-intentioned. I just think he doesn't have control of his crew and maybe isn't paying attention to the details enough. The slab seems fine for the purpose so the delivered product is good, but just as important is protecting the surrounding job site and leaving it clean when the job is done."

"Great experiences each time I've used this company. It's really, really hard to get good people to do quality work in Seattle, and Steve Bodine is one of those people. He employs great workers, treats them well and holds on to them for years. He personally is a genuinely decent and nice guy as well. He has years and years of experience and I would trust him with all my drainage needs (that's saying something in Seattle). Bodine also did a fantastic job with my concrete driveway and walkways. I first hired Bodine almost 3 years ago to redirect my downspouts to a new drain field in my back yard. His crew did an amazing job. I was so pleased, I hired them to do some concrete work in my basement. Again, excellent work. Based on that, I then hired them to pour a new concrete driveway and walkway. Again, an incredible job. They really care about getting it right. Bodine does virtually all of their work based on referrals... and they are busy. But if you have a problem, they will take care of it immediately and other times, you just have to be a little patient knowing they're busy taking care of someone else's problems. It works both ways. They were very patient with me when I had to change dates to have my driveway poured due to other work going on at my house. I also want to mention Jim Cuba and Manny, who worked on my most recent project and were terrific."

"Excellent. They maneuvered some tricky terrain and tight turns, completing the work in one day. And they went above and beyond when they discovered a small leak and a cracked reducer in one of the two fitting assemblies, replacing the reducer and repairing the flaw. I consider this to be a highly competent and reputable operation."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Pacific, WA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
