"Phil and his team did a great job and had great suggestions to how to accomplish what I was looking to do. They took all my downspouts below ground, combined them together including my sump pump and installed pop up emitters. Overall, it is a much better solution than the previous plastic flex pipes that discharged directly on my lawn. Also regraded a few poor drainage areas of the yard. I thought the pricing was reasonable and would hire them again."

"I had my driveway repaved in October 2023 and then had an oil delivery truck slide off the driveway in the snow a couple of weeks ago and crack the driveway edges in 3 locations. Sams did not do the original repaving but after getting estimates from 4 contractors, I went with Sams because their price was the fairest. They came out the day after I gave them the work and cutout the 3 sections, removed old black top and paved the areas with 4" new asphalt and heated to match old er black top. Loos great. Would highly recommend them because of punctuality, quality and price."

"Julio and his team were great to work with. We hired Julio to clear out several flower bed areas, remove stumps, install edging and landscaping fabric, and put down river rock. The results speak for themselves! Julio will definitely be our first call the next time we need landscaping help."

"Eric and his team did an amazing job repointing cracks throughout our stone house. They rebuilt a badly damaged and previously poorly repaired, repeatedly poorly repaired, portion of the wall outside the garage that now looks like new. They replaced a rusting and failing lintel over a diamond leaded glass window that is important to us and it looks amazing. You cannot tell at all where any of this work has been done, the house looks like new, you would never know where repairs have been done. The front path and stairs look new! Neighbors have stopped by to complement the work. Eric was easy to get a hold of and very responsive to any questions about the process. It took a while to schedule, but that is because they do meticulous, perfectionist work. They are worth the wait! The prices are very fair also, particularly given the time, work, and skill level involved."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Parkville, MD

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
