"So, it's noon, I have 25 people coming to my house for dinner and my kitchen sink gets clogged.  Oh, by the way, it's freaking Thanksgiving!!!!
I scan Angie's List and a few other rating services and come across several well-rated plumbers.  A few frantic phone calls later (voice mail on the first three calls) and I stumble upon Jon.  He picks up the phone (what a surprise!) and tries to walk me through a fix over the phone.  After five minutes of back-and-forth, Jon finally says, "I'm can be over in twenty minutes."
Now, I'm not really in a position to negotiate and I figure it's going to be crazy expensive.  Jon shows up, on-time, dressed like he is heading to a family dinner, which I'm assuming he was.
An hour later, the sink is draining and Jon is cleaning up after making me promise to never peel potatoes into the disposal again.  He then gives me the bill.  Not only did he not charge me an outrageous price, but I've paid substantially more for a plumber on a Tuesday afternoon at 1:00pm for less work.
I can't speak to all the reviews on his work, but I would venture to guess that there isn't one other plumber on the planet earth that would have taken care of a first-time customer like Jon did today.  He is the best plumber in the Chicagoland area, in my humble opinion.

"I took a chance and tried one of Angie's List's deals as some of my appliances had been malfunctioning for a while. Even when not in use, my washer was accumulating water. I would drain it but it would fill up again.
The repairs went very smoothly. Richard had seen this issue many times before and knew exactly what to do. He was able to do the repair in only one hour without an assistant. Even though my washer/dryer are stacked which makes repairs more difficult, he was able to maneuver around it, as there was just enough space. He had helpful hints too (don't use too much soap).
Because the washer repair went so well, I showed him my oven which was not starting up consistently or holding its temperature. Again, Richard knew just what to do. He replaced the igniter in less than an hour. I am so pleased that both appliances are working beautifully now. I really appreciated Richard's insights about appliances too. For example, I have a very good fridge and all I need to do is vacuum the coils to extend its life. Also, he took a look at my dryer, which keeps showing the clean lint filter light. Once the loads don't dry completely, I know to call him out again.
Richard is also the owner of Appliance Alliance and I can tell he takes pride in what he does. This was a great deal!

"A few days ago my furnace went out. I could see that the igniter was cracked and it looked like a 5-minute job to replace, and I found the part on the internet for $38. But it was freezing in the house and I couldn’t wait a day so I called the distributor in Libertyville, but he doesn’t sell to the public. I called Ravinia Plumbing and Heating and spoke to their service manager, who refused to sell me the part. The only way he would help me out was to come out and replace the part for $304 plus, I think, $90 to come out. Thanks a lot. So I give Ravinia a C. They didn’t cheat me or do anything dishonest - they have a right to be un-neighborly if that’s how they want to do business. But the story has a happy ending. I called Carefree Comfort and spoke to Domenick who said sure, he’d sell me the part. He sold it to me for $35 - less than the internet price. Now THAT’s what I call a good neighbor! Now I know who I can trust to come out and give me a fair price when I have a problem I can’t solve myself."
