"We had a continuous leak from the old water heate, which went undetected for several months, causing a problem with humidity and mold in the basement.  The mold remediation company recommended John and coordinated with him to be sure he would be willing to work in the basement environment, which would require wearing protective equipment due to the mold problem.  John was able to replace the water heater the next day. He was very professional and very understanding about the condition of the basement. He also was able to give me some tips on other work that I might want to have done once the basement is restored. He kind of went over if we were to buy, what brands would be good. It was a good investment, we ended up buying a new one anyhow. "A few days ago my furnace went out. I could see that the igniter was cracked and it looked like a 5-minute job to replace, and I found the part on the internet for $38. But it was freezing in the house and I couldn’t wait a day so I called the distributor in Libertyville, but he doesn’t sell to the public. I called Ravinia Plumbing and Heating and spoke to their service manager, who refused to sell me the part. The only way he would help me out was to come out and replace the part for $304 plus, I think, $90 to come out. Thanks a lot. So I give Ravinia a C. They didn’t cheat me or do anything dishonest - they have a right to be un-neighborly if that’s how they want to do business. But the story has a happy ending. I called Carefree Comfort and spoke to Domenick who said sure, he’d sell me the part. He sold it to me for $35 - less than the internet price. Now THAT’s what I call a good neighbor! Now I know who I can trust to come out and give me a fair price when I have a problem I can’t solve myself."

"Our house is over 100 years old, and probably still has some electrical wiring that was done in the 1920's. On top of that, my mother and brother, who live in the first floor apartment, are close to being hoarders, with piles of stuff every where. None of this bothered Pat, or slowed him down! He fixed the remote on their ceiling fan, so it no longer turns on when our neighbor changes tv channels, and took care of a problem with a light switch in my mom's bedroom. Our basement, a home repair nightmare with poor lighting, plumbing issues and piles of old clothing, didn't bother him either. We didn't hear a single complaint, and couldn't believe he finished replacing the broken light switches there so quickly. A number of electricians had tried (and failed miserably) to fix our Casablanca mission style ceiling fan; most couldn't figure out why it was scraping, and tried everything from weights to "just don't run it at high speed" to resolve the problem. Pat just looked at it, and told me it was a motor issue that Casablanca needed to repair. He even gave me the name of the malfunctioning part, and didn't charge me for the advice! (He was absolutely right, too. Casablanca fixed the fan a year ago, and this time it's stayed fixed) On top of this, he's always on time, doesn't mind small jobs, and can usually can squeeze you in within a week or less. We'll be calling his again shortly because we've broken another light switch A++++++!"
