"Denis and Bert did an excellent job on removing at least least three dozen bricks from an arch that had shifted and the center bricks had slipped down. A plywood support was built, scaffolding erected, the supporting column leveled, and the bricks relayed, after cleaning the mortar off of each one. Denis even embedded a metal strap into the mortar layer between the bricks. Scaffold construction was essential and nicely done. We are quite pleased with the result."

"Fast workers - not as detail-oriented as we needed for our hardwood floors and kitchen trim We hired Northwest Builders & Renovation to demolish a wall between two rooms, paint our LR, DR, kitchen, and a hallway. We also had them patch a section of wet lath & plaster, replace some baseboards, and hang a chandelier. (About $15k) They finished the majority of the work in 4 days - very fast! They were much less expensive, too, and we learned why later. They wanted to use laminate to finish (as the contract said) our hardwood floor patch from where the wall was. We have almost 100-year-old oak hardwood floors. When they said labor and materials are include in the bid, we should have asked which materials they planned to use. To finish a hardwood floor to them meant using laminate or engineered hardwood flooring, not real wood for hardwood flooring, AND to patch it in (leaving a line), not to weave it in as we wanted to blend it. Read between the lines to know the bid."

"Step up is fantastic. Our driveway was cracked and needed to be replaced. They provided a reasonable quote, clearly comunicated the process and options, showed up on time and completed the project in a timely manner. They also worked around our availability and the weather. When we replace our concrete steps we will use them again for the project."

"We had removed a fiberglass shower stall, and re-framed one of the walls and ceiling in our second bathroom.  Chad recommended a dry-waller, that did an excellent job prepping the area for Signature to install a Schluter-KERDI system, and build up the shower floor in preperation of the tile. <br /> We also had them install two hearths for our fireplaces. <br /> Chad, Alex, and Greg where quite professional, punctual, and responsive throughout the entire processes.  We would HIGHLY recommend them, and will use them again when we have our kitchen floor tiled. <br /> <br />"

"My driveway concrete aggregate was flaking off badly. What should I do: resurface, new concrete, pavers? I looked at all options and decided on pavers. Not much more expensive than a concrete repour, pavers would definitely be an upgrade from the aggregate driveway. July 2019 I hired CD Pavers to replace my driveway. It required only 3 days. CD Pavers representative explained both the process and the product employed in my project with actual samples, pictures and brochures. I made an unannounced visit to a large paving project in Shoreline and visited with the workers at the site. I shook hands and took a couple of cellphone photos. That’s when I decided this was my company. The pleasant surprise was how affordable the project would be compared to estimates I received from other companies. And, they had a nontransferable lifetime guarantee of their work. I also opted for the sealant spray of the new pavers and existing aggregate concrete surfaces. What I liked about CD Pavers: 1. PREP for job: Complete explanation of the scope of work and materials to be used was provided before contract signed. The contractor obtained underground utility mapping to protect lines running under and near the driveway. 2. DEMOLITION: The old driveway was removed, and construction debris hauled off on first day. Safety markings were placed at the sidewalk. 3. PAVER INSTALL: ground leveled, plastic ground cover followed by pea gravel and sand; compaction equipment used on those layers. Pavers placed in one day including sand “grout” vibrated into the gaps between pavers. Mindful of off driveway water drainage. 4. ADDED TOUCH: graciously placed a boarder along entry walkway at no additional charge. 5. HOMEOWNER CARE: Protected driveway apron, roadway asphalt, sidewalk from damage and soilage by construction equipment. Replaced a sprinkler head accidently broken during paver work. Cleanup complete and unused paver product stacked neatly in side-yard for the homeowner. Carey, the owner of CD Pavers visited the project site and inquired how everything was going with the project. He wanted to make sure I was happy with all aspects of the work to date, and wanted to hear if I had any concerns. Would I employ CD pavers for more paver projects at my home? Absolutely yes. I was impressed by the quality of the work, concern and respectful interaction with the homeowner, and affordability of the job. They do excellent work."

"We recently purchased a beautiful older house. The kitchen was newly remodled, but they left an old and somewhat damaged wood parque floor and we decided to replace it with tile before we moved in. Based on favorable reviews on Angie's list, we decided to check out Seattle Tile. We also wanted a place that could handle both our selection/purchase of tile and our installation project. The folks at the store were very helpful in making recommendations and assisting us with our selection of tile, which took a couple of trips in. While we were in the showroom, we met with Tom (the installation guy) and scheduled an appointment for him to come out to the house the next day. He spent about half an hour at our house taking measurements, asking questions and giving suggestions, and emailed us a bid the following day. We were very impressed by Tom's knowledge and enthusiasm/passion for what he did. We didn't have a heating source in the kitchen and on his recommendation we decided to add radiant floor heating to the project, and Tom work with us to find a way to make that happen within our budget. They were pretty busy, so it was about 2 1/2 weeks from when we hired them before they could start the work, but it was well worth the wait. The installation was very professionally done and the tile looks teriffic. There ended up being more work involved than they had anticipated and accounted for in their bid, but we weren't charged any overage. One other thing that really impressed me was Tom's patience and willingness to share his knowledge and recommendations. They were very responsive to our questions and made sure they got our input on all key design decisions (e.g., transitions to hardwood flooring, spacing, how the tile would be placed, etc.). It was a great experience, and I would highly recommend them. <br /> <br />"

"Our house was originally built in 1927, flipped in 2014—a near-complete tear-down and rebuild. The builder finished our uncovered front porch with stained plywood. After a year in the Seattle weather, the plywood looked like a moldy croissant; wavy, de-laminating, and soft from rot. We contacted several contractors about building complete portico, and Raincap and another contractor were the only two who even returned our calls. The other contractor's bid for the complete portico was well beyond our budget and they told us that re-doing just the porch deck was too small a job to be worth their time. Raincap, however, was happy to give us a porch-only bid. Chris, the owner, met us for an initial consultation and estimate. He admitted that it was indeed a small job, and we would therefore need to be flexible because they would need to fit it into the schedule between larger jobs, but he said he was committed to doing the work. After that, we dealt directly with Larry (project manager) who did a second assessment and worked with us on specific details and logistics. After they tore up the rotten plywood, they discovered rotten wood and poor workmanship in the supporting structure. Despite the fact that these problems doubled the labor costs of the original estimate ($6,500 from $2,700), Larry and Josh (the carpenter) walked us through our options thoughtfully and never pressured us into work with which we weren't comfortable. They kept our best interests in mind and worked with us to do the best job possible within our budget. Work completed: - replaced plywood with roughly 100 sq. ft. of cedar deck planks - rebuilt framing on three sides with pressure treated support beams - removed rot from support beam, anchored beam to existing foundation with seismic bolt and epoxy - repaired small gap in siding left by original builders - site cleanup and debris hauling In the end, Chris and Larry quoted high but came in low. Our final invoice was $3,800—only $1,000 more than the original estimate, despite additional supplies and two more days of labor."

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Seahurst, WA

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
