"These sales people wanted to tell us about the history of the company and how they selected the window product that they represent.  They wanted to know what we would be looking for in new windows and why.  Wanted to know how long we've lived in the house and did we realize that our current windows are energy inefficient.  They wanted to know what color we could like new windows to be.  They wanted to sit down at the kitchen table and get out the samples before we had any idea what the product and installation would cost.  I resented the two and a half hours that their pitch took.  They hoped that offering a 5% discount for this and a 10% discount for making a decision today would make a difference.  Then they hoped that we could cut the project up in pieces and do only a room or two to start with.  I only became more aggravated.  Then they offered to finance the project.  
This approach assumes their target audience, I assume retirees, have extensive time and/or need companionship.  They want to make friends with the customers.  And they imagine that they can talk so long that potential customers will give in and sign to get the interrogation to end.  They ended by leaving a "gift card", which was a voucher with their office contact information on it so we would have to call their HQ to redeem the voucher.  Why would I want to call their office for anything?
All we wanted was their estimate.  It took 2 1/2 hours of my valuable time.  That is all that they will get.
