The county knocked on my door Sunday evening to advise there was a significant water leak outside and it was coming from my side of the property.   I had them turn off the water at the meter until I could get a plumber the next day.  I called Millersville Monday morning and they sent someone out within the hour to inspect and give me an estimate.  They explained different options and cost depending on what type of pipe I had. 

I also told them of an internal plumbing issue I've had since owning the home that caused the downstairs toilet to gurgle when the washer empties.   They advised they could remove the toilet and send their camera down the line to check for issues.  This is an issue I've discussed with other repairman over the years without any answers.

By 11:00 Monday, the Millersville crew arrived to fix the water line issue.  It did turn out to be the polyblue pipe so I had the whole line replaced as opposed to just the break which was an option.  This was no small task as they had to locate where to access the outside pipe since a porch had been added by the prior homeowner.  They had to remove a shrub and dig a large hole to get to the line.  The weather was bitterly cold and calling for snow the next day.

The issue with the inside plumbing was a bigger problem than a snake could address.  The camera ran into a block, which turned out to be a belly in the pipe.  The team had to  remove part of a brick walkway, dig approx. 5' to get to the septic line, where the  belly was sending water back towards the house causing the gurgle in the toilet when the washer emptied.  Solution was to replace belly in cast iron pipe with PVC.   However when they started to cut the pipe, waste water started to come out.  It was getting dark, snow was predicted for the next day, the team put up a tent over the work area to finish the next morning.

Tuesday we did get the bad weather predicted with snow and ice.  The team arrived in the morning and despite their best efforts they couldn't continue work  until the septic tank was pumped.  Based on the weather, understandably my  septic company wasn't working that day.  The plumber even called a few companies he dealt with and no one could make it. 

Wednesday morning, immediately after the septic had been pumped, Millersville was back to fix the pipe.  While they were finishing up the job I ran a load of laundry and for the 1st time in 10 years, no gurgling toilet. 

Despite the weather challenges, the difficult work conditions, the team was professional, personable, and a pleasure to deal with over the 3 days.   Millersville Plumbing is the best and I will never use another plumber but them.
