We are a full service Excavation and Trucking Company with 30+ years of experience. Specializing in Complete Septic System Installation and Repair. New or Failing System we perform perk and have Design Engineers we work with your particular project. Demolition of any Building and removal of debris. We do not perform septic pump outs.

"Addendum to my last review: When the septic pump failed, we discovered how many corners were cut. Instead of a septic pump, a sump pump (for rainwater) was installed with the 1½ inch pipe joined to a 2 inch pipe to make it look like it was supposed to. There was no coupler on the pipe leading to the distribution box, necessitating cutting the pipe to get the sump pump out. No check valve. Do NOT use this guy."

Family-owned and operated since 1991. Specialized expertise in the eradication of unwanted and invasive plants and vegetation. Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License #26928. Web site: www.cooperspoisonivy.com

"Amazing! Lee is a pleasure to work with and is super diligent about his efforts. He took hours to walk our yard and woods to find and treat all poison ivy on the ground and in the trees (we have a big property and had a lot). Lee found it all and then on his return trip to ensure all is eliminated he treated anything new or if he had missed any. We're happy to say its all gone now and we couldn't be happier. Thanks Lee for being diligent and being very careful about treating just the plants and vines so as not to harm anything else. Thanks so much!!!"

INITIAL ESTIMATE FEE IS APPLIED TOWARD WORK DONE. ADDITIONAL SERVICE AREAS: MARTHA'S VINEYARD,NORWOOD-BROCKTON, LYNN-BEVERLY, CONCORD-MAYNARD, ASHLAND-NORFOLK, ATTLEBORO-TAUNTON, CHELMSFORD-HAVERHILL, BOXFORD-GLOUCESTER, COHASSET-PLYMOUTH & WORCHESTER. ALSO PROVIDES SERVICE NATIONWIDE.

"The creative interactions with Michael were great. He has great ideas and good interaction and iteration on the design. However, Michael is not a detail person, something his normally excellent staff properly compensates for. However, he had three staffing turnovers over the course of our project. Not including Michael when he was filling in, we had five project leads, at least two of whom we never met. This led to inefficiencies and continuity problems that resulting in playing catch up once the build started. Which leads to the other issue. Micheal is not good at communication and does not easily admit when he is wrong or unprepared. He insisted that the staffing turnover wouldn't impact the schedule. He presented plans at the kickoff with the builder that, in hindsight, were clearly not ready. He presented changes to the plan shortly after kickoff that immediately ate 40% of our planned contingency budget as they were not the plans the builder based his bid on. Later, another 12% was chewed up because he didn't plan ductwork in a house with a flat roof. The results were livable, but until the end, he insisted he didn't make a mistake despite saying he's had trouble with ductwork in the 15 years he's done residential design "because every contractor wants to do it differently." Every one of his staff that we met and worked with was fantastic. They supplied the detail that Michael lacks. They executed better than I would expect for picking up where someone left off. Unfortunately, they don't have the autonomy you would hope, and Michael doesn't communicate with them well enough to let their judgments stand. On several occasions, he overrode their judgments in confusing and public ways, sometimes after a delay of days."

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Shrewsbury, MA

The timeline for replacing a support beam varies based on several factors, including accessibility, length, and your home's specific structural requirements. The process involves multiple stages: planning, permitting, material procurement, and installation. Complications like discovering additional damage, electrical obstacles, or plumbing conflicts can extend the timeline. Consulting with contractors during the estimate process will give you a more accurate project duration for your specific situation.

Warning signs of a compromised support beam include noticeable floor sagging or bouncing, cracks appearing in walls (particularly near doorways), doors that suddenly stick or won't close properly, and visible damage to the beam itself. You might also notice unusual creaking sounds when walking across certain areas or gaps developing between walls and ceilings. Any of these symptoms warrants prompt inspection by a structural professional to determine whether repair or replacement is necessary.

In certain situations with limited damage, reinforcement techniques like sistering (attaching a new beam alongside the existing one) or adding steel plates can extend a beam's useful life. However, these approaches are only suitable for minor issues. Complete replacement is often necessary when significant deterioration affects more than half the beam or compromises its structural integrity. A structural engineer should evaluate the specific conditions to recommend the appropriate solution for your home.

Whether you need temporary housing during beam replacement depends on the beam's location and your project's scope. Many homeowners can remain in their homes during the work, particularly when the beam is in a basement or crawl space. The primary considerations are noise, dust, and access restrictions in the work area. If the project involves major demolition or affects critical living spaces, temporary relocation might be more comfortable. Discuss the project timeline and daily impact with your contractor before making this decision.

Support beams should be examined periodically as part of routine home maintenance. Pay particular attention to events that could affect structural elements, such as flooding, significant foundation movement, or pest infestations. If you notice any warning signs like sagging floors, wall cracks, or visible beam damage, arrange for a professional assessment immediately. Catching potential problems early can prevent more extensive damage and reduce repair costs.
