"Sooo....first, Jim is a very nice guy.  However, Jim now works in Nashville during the week and is only home to the Huntsville area on the weekends.
My first impression of him was that he was awesome.  My computer system had crashed because I pulled the plug during a thunder storm before the computer fully shut down which resulted in the computer hanging up.  Jim took my call while in Tennessee and suggested how to fix the system.  For this I am very grateful.

What happened next was I had him come and check my computer to make sure everything was working properly.  He came to my house and spent an hour tweaking it (basically running various checks on the system), for which I paid him $50.  He suggested that my laptop would work much better if I had Windows 7 and increased my RAM up to 4 GB.  He said he could install it for me for (including the RAM) for about $160.  We met the following weekend for the handoff and he loaded Window 7.  When I received the call it was ready, the bill was $227.50.  I was surprised that is was $70 more than quoted, but paid it anyways.  When I asked about the RAM, he mentioned he did not upgrade the RAM and this would be another $60.  I was a little discouraged at that point since I felt like I was being taken advantage of, but the guy is relatively nice, so I said to go ahead and order the RAM.  He did so and the following weekend was supposed to install it.  Due to some personal things in his life, he wasn't able to install it, so I picked it up since I had to go out of town and could use the IT guy at my new location to install it for me.  When we went to install the RAM, the system wouldn't let us do it since my particular type of laptop can only take 2GB of RAM max.  If Jim had gone to the crucial.com website (where he bought my RAM) and entered my computer system on it, it would have told him the max amount of RAM that could be installed on that unit.  He did not do that.  He is supposed to refund my $60 this next weekend.

I think if Jim wasn't burning the candle at both ends by having a job in Tennessee during the week and trying to run this business on the weekends, it would've been a better experience.  Perhaps taking a few extra minutes to SLOW DOWN and write out an estimate of everything he would need for the job including the prices would ensure people know up front how much the repair would/should cost so they can budget accordingly.  I think if he had taken that approach, it might've been a better experience.  So now I am stuck with a laptop that runs slower because Windows 7 uses more memory and a laptop that can't be upgraded to more RAM.  Basically, the last step which cost me almost $300 was not necessary.  If you need something simple done like coming back from a system crash, he would be okay to use.  Otherwise, for the bigger jobs, I recommend he provide a written estimate with the items he plans to do.

UPDATE:  After posting this review, I received a number of text messages from Jim commenting on the bad review.  I understand he is upset, but harassing someone about a review is not a good way to go.  My review was honest and not meant to be mean, but to let those that use Angie's list get what they pay for...an honest review of someone's experience."

"This story starts at our local hardware store. Summerland Hardware. me and my lovely wife just moved here to this Island a short time ago. And we only at that time knew just a few people. So when I was at the hardware store I asked the nice people there if they knew of any good A/C men? That's when they gave me Steve's, Core Mecanical's business card was a Letter Opener. I will first of all say that this was a difficult job. And this A/C unit was a additional add on to one of the rooms. As our house is new construction. So I was a little conserned about adding on this unit and it looking good and like it should on a new house. It looked perfect. I will say that when Steve and his tech's showed up I was impressed right away with how professional they all looked,acted and how they work very hard to do the job. And do the job they did. Steve had came over a few days before to look and give me a quote on the job. And he gave me 3 choices on pricing and what kind of unit could be installed to resolve my problem. I chose one of the three and that is the price I paid him when a job well done was completed all on the same day. I cannot say enough about Steve and his crew Very Well Done!!!
I will use them again for Any A/C work that I might need in the future.

"I recently installed a Bose speaker system and the connections were a rats nest of wires and it needed to be balanced. Seth came and rewired the system and balanced the system, including the surround sound speakers in the ceiling. I had two extra Bose speakers that I wanted to use in my bedroom, so Seth brought a used Denon receiver and also provided a 15 foot HDMI cable that we needed for the set up. "CHW was very responsive to our urgent need! We filed a claim the evening prior when we notices our A/C was blowing warm air into the rooms. Then by 8AM the next day, we had a call from the service technician saying he was on his way to address the issue! CHW worked with the technician to find out the compressor was the culprit and approved it's repair! Great customer service for a family in need during the hot south central Texas summer!"

"We have a 2nd story 832 sq ft house which had 2 wall A/C Units.  We were looking to upgrade to Central A/C.  Keys A/C went through every possible option, from converting half a closet to installing central a/c below the house and venting through the floor.  When it was all said and done the easiest (and only option that didn't involve loosing limited square footage) was Ductless A/C.  

Their quote was 75% of the closest competitor, and their professionalism exceeded everyone else as well.  After signing the contract and putting a deposit of 50% down for the units, they were here within a week to install.  They were here for 9 hours one day and returned the next day for 3 hours and the job was done -very efficiently - especially for the keys I must say!

They even took out the old AC Units and patched the hole in the wall (inside and out) for an extra charge - and did a great job!

I would recommend this company for everyone looking for AC in the Keys.

"I had the chimney cleaning and inspection performed in April on the $78 special, and asked for an estimate to repair some damage and install a chimney cap. I had damage from racoons that ripped up the screen covering the chimney, loosened some bricks and had built a nest inside the chimney on a ledge just above the fireplace damper. The worker who did the cleaning was on time for the appointment, was efficient, thorough, and careful to keep all dust and debris from entering my home through the fireplace while he was vacuuming. He inspected the chimney from inside the fireplace and from outside for damage and signs of water leakage, carefully explained the options for a repair and installation of a new cover and gave me an estimate based on my selection. Fireplace Doctor called the next day and set up another appointment, about 2 weeks later, for the repair work.
Two workers came to do the repair work and installation of a lock-top damper (one that could be completely closed from inside the fireplace when not in use). Brickwork and mortar repair was done, installation of the damper completed and a total (3 coat) waterproofing of the mortar cap and brickwork was done in a couple of hours. I climbed up on the roof to inspect the work and one of the men showed and explained the work done and then came into the house and showed me how to use the open/close mechanism for the lock-top damper. The total with the Angies list discount was $1148.
