"We awoke on a Monday morning to find that we had no heat.  After taking all the appropriate owner actions, I called Dick's Heating & AC, as they were the original contractors who installed the furnace and duct work when the house was built almost 20 years ago.  On Wednesday, they sent a repairman who repaired the furnace but said that he could not guarantee the work due to the age of the furnace.  We were semi-prepared for this, but had hoped that we would be able to defer a replacement until summer.  I sent requests for bids to Pacific Air Systems, Dick's, and Mercurio's.  Dick's response was a handwritten form which essentially said "replace the furnace" without specifying what brand or the exact work to be done.  Mercurio's sent a rep, who examined the furnace, and then spent about an hour and a half educating us on furnaces.  He said that he would e-mail me a formal bid, which he did.  On his heels came the Pacific Air rep. Despite wearing a clean white shirt, Keegan, the rep, got into our crawl space under the house to inspect the ducts, then climbed up into the attic loft to inspect the duct work up there.  He  used a laser to measure the volume of the house, and did a lot of calculating of air flows, etc.  He then sat down with us and advised us that the reason our house was cold upstairs was that the air return was basically not hooked to anything.  He then told us that we had 'way too much furnace, and explained in great detail why this is not a good thing, and not enough air conditioner.  We talked this over and decided to go with Pacific Air because of the demonstrated professionalism. As promised, on the following Tuesday at 8:30, two guys showed up with a truck and immediately went to work on the furnace.  They had completed the installation by 1:15.  They told me that they were unable to fix the upstairs ducting because to install it right would require that a 2d floor floor joist be cut and a section removed, and that they would not do that.  Further communication since has indicated that they have devised a work-around and that they will be back to take care of this.  It seemed that Keegan, the Pacific Air rep, was the only one of the three who was concerned that we not buy more furnace than we need, and that we got one that was adequate to the job.  Everybody has been easy to deal with and extremely professional and pleasant.

"I called P.H. Tuesday evening and left a message. Wednesday morning they returned the call and said a tech could be here Thursday morning. He arrived within the 2 hour window. Jason was very friendly, courteous and professional. He diagnosed the problem but did not have the needed part for repair so it would be ordered. The office staff called back on Friday to say the part was in and the tech could install it Monday morning. Gary arrived right on time. He too was friendly, courteous and professional. He installed the fan motor, tested it and was on his way in less than an hour. Work area was clean as it was before he started."
