"The name Aqua Doctor is very fitting for Chris and his team, because it sounds like a super hero and that is definitely what they are! After a brutal week of cold a few weeks ago I went to turn on a faucet to have water shooting out from the pipe. Thankfully I knew where the shut off valve was, and searched Angies List to find a reputable contractor for what I hoped would be a simple repair. The repair wasn’t simple, which made having a true professional like Chris even more important. Not only had one of the pipes under the sink blown out, but Chris and his thorough inspection showed me a pipe behind the wall in the shower was also leaking. Had I tried to fix the pipe myself or hired some novice I doubt that would have been found, which have resulted in leaking in my walls and under the floor for who knows how long before it was found. There unfortunately a good amount of damage, and Chris and his team helped in so many ways but I will just name a few. First, they did work beyond what a typical plumber would do. His crew came in and pulled out tile and opened the walls to get to the leaking pipes. More about that in a bit, but another critical piece was he helped me navigate the confusing and tricky area of dealing with your insurance company. He did what my insurance company didnt seem able to do, which is example to me in simple terms how the process works, and he spoke directly with the company probably 6 or 7 times as the project was moving forward on what needed to be done and why to help get every possible dollar of his bill covered. As the project was moving along and the team had to walls to do the repairs, we learned this part of the home was not built to code. We had plumbing on an outside wall without an insulated wall in between. This meant the proper way to repair it was to move the water lines for the shower, toilet and sink by jackhammering into the concrete foundation. It’s a miracle I didnt pass out when I learned that, but once again Chris took the time to explain to me in simple terms what had to be done, to show me, explain why, and then get not he phone with the insurance agency to get it covered. He even facilitated working with the village inspector to make use all the documentation needed to prove this was required by the village was in place. This along would have been $4,400 out of my pocket if Chris hadn’t been thorough and diligent to working with the insurance. Other contacts would hand me a bill and let me figure it out, but Chris helped me the entire way. His team worked hard and fast to get everything in sorted out quickly, and Chris even connected me with another familiar member who offered to do the additional repairs like drywalling, paint, etc. Chris and his team turned what could have been an absolute nightmare into a relatively painless process and really worked hard to minimize my out of pocket spend. And when the project was over and I tried to tip him for going way above and beyond me didn’t even want to accept the cash so I gave it to his workers. I just cant say enough for Chris and his hard work and work ethic. And if this wasn’t enough to convince you to use Aqua Doctor I will leave you with one more meaningful example. When the village came out to look at what had to be done to comply with code, I could see the relief on the face of the village inspector that I was using Aqua Plumbing because they knew the job would be done right."

"Have used them 3 times. Always quick to response and easy to work with. Once I called them on a Sunday and no advance notice. They showed up right way. When I called them for service that Sunday, there was no mention or hassle about how it is Sunday and emergency call and extra charge that and service fee that.... Solved the sewer line problem and charged me normal rate and kept me updated during the whole process."

"As many people in the Chicagoland area likely experienced, we had some plumbing issues as a result of the Great Polar Vortex of 2019. Since we were running our water to prevent pipes from freezing, we found that we had drainage issues with our upstairs bathroom. We noticed a leak staining our kitchen ceiling and basement wall so we figured it was coming from the upstairs bathroom since that's where we had the sink turned on to drip. Guillermo came over on a Saturday to take a look at the problem. He arrived on time but wasn't 100% prepared for the task at hand. I was a little concerned with his indecisiveness on where to begin looking for a problem. He kept asking me where I wanted him to cut into the wall and look but I'm not the professional, you are. I guess maybe he was doing it because he was going to have to cut into drywall and he wanted me to give him permission to do it so I wouldn't be mad? I'm not sure but it wasn't super professional especially since I have no clue what is going on inside the walls. I don't know what different types of leaks look like and, presumably, he does. He ended up cutting way too much drywall, including in the back of the pipes and then couldn't even see the drain pipe to the plumbing he was there to inspect. Our insurance likely won't cover that so we'll be on the hook for repairing it. Sigh. Once Guillermo guessed the source of the leak, the plumber still had questions. He basically said he could cut into the ceiling under the toilet and look around or take the toilet out and see if it was a flange issue. He wanted me to make that call even though I don't know anything about plumbing. Of course, he cuts into more drywall, can't see a leak, so he still has to go take the toilet off. Turns out the toilet and the drain pipe were the issues. In the midst of cutting into the ceiling, the plumber realizes he doesn't have a ladder tall enough to see into the ceiling and neither do we. He has to go to a hardware store in the middle of all this to get one and then he comes back with a broken one (not his fault, but such a time suck). So he's out again to get a new ladder to replace the broken one just so he can look up into our ceiling. I feel like all the plumbers should be equipped with ladders and other equipment they might need in all kinds of houses because we aren't the only people in Chicago with high ceilings. That ended up being 90 minutes of time we'd never get back just waiting for him to come back and finish the diagnosis. Once we figured that out, we waited for the instillation crew to come in and replace a few feet of drain pipe and install a new flange for the toilet. We had to wait four days for someone to come and do the install which seems a bit long for a job that takes about two hours. Same thing happened with the install crew: they didn't have the correct size flange so they had to stop work and go to the hardware store. They were gone for almost an hour so my husband was just stuck waiting. They did a good job on the install once they were back and had the right equipment so our toilet is in fine, working order and draining properly. We ended up paying about $1900 for all of this work, the majority of which was labor costs. It really seems a bit high that these guys are making about $250 an hour for "work" that included going to Home Depot to get more supplies that they didn't come with in the first place. The work they did shouldn't have even taken that long and I got stuck with the bill, which seems odd. Another $375 of that was just to let the first plumber make holes in my wall that weren't totally necessary just to discover the toilet flange wasn't big enough. I know that it's not his fault that he couldn't see that the toilet was installed improperly from the outside, but it was really upsetting to have the plumber basically ask me what to do in terms of where to look for plumbing problems I know nothing about. Their customer service was always nice and easy to deal with, so that was a plus. Overall, I am happy with the work that they did since my toilet works and is no longer leaking, but I felt like the process of dealing with the plumbers in the house was somewhat unprofessional since the first didn't seem to know what to do and both sets of plumbers did not come prepared with the equipment they needed to do their jobs."

FAQs for water main install, replace or repair projects in Union, IL

If you notice puddles or standing water in your yard, a sudden drop in water pressure, cracks forming in your foundation, frequent clogs in your plumbing fixtures, or water that looks or smells unusual, you might have a leak in your main water line. These signs mean it's time to call a professional to evaluate the issue and prevent further damage.

A professional water main inspection is a comprehensive evaluation performed by a licensed plumber who checks every section of your plumbing system. The inspection costs $165 and uses advanced diagnostic techniques to identify hidden leaks or wear. This service clarifies the exact condition of your water main, enabling precise repairs that prevent future damage and ensure the overall health of your plumbing system.

Protect your water main by scheduling a cleaning and inspection every two to five years. The average cost of a sewer line cleaning is $400. It’s also important to never dig in your yard without first calling the dig line (811) to ensure you don't accidentally hit the water or sewer lines. Watch for soil erosion, low water pressure, or wet spots in your yard, and take immediate action if you suspect a leak. Remember, the longer you leave it, the worse the problem gets and the more costly it is to fix.

When properly maintained, your water main is engineered to remain functional for 50 years or longer. A durable water service in excellent condition should consistently perform without major issues for half a century. In contrast, metal pipes exposed to acidic soil corrode faster, whereas modern plastic pipes resist corrosion and function for decades beyond metal alternatives. Regular maintenance and inspections are essential for confirming your system’s longevity.

No, homeowners insurance does not cover the cost to repair a water main. Insurers fund only sudden, unforeseen events like a burst pipe and exclude gradual issues or normal wear and tear. Damage resulting from leaks, such as mold remediation or property claims, is not covered. It is essential to contact your insurance provider immediately to confirm your policy’s details and any potential adjustments needed.
