"The procedure was painless and the product seems to be good quality. I can tell a difference in the temperature and glare in the room where the sun is strongest. The salesman/estimator was in touch very quickly, was clear with the options, and professional. The installer was good enough, but he was not the most professional in attitude. I would recommend the company to someone else.
Professionalism:
Quick, responsive, on time, know their products.
Why it's not an and quot;Aand quot;: The negatives arrived with the installer, who whined about not being told there were storm windows (dunno, but I had made a point of this during my first meeting after an experience with a window cleaner). Rather than just note it and check the office, he let me see his frustration and started telling me I would have to pay more for him to remove them. He aired dirty laundry by bad-mouthing the salesman/estimators.
Then he said he would just install the film on the storms; I did not trust him to decide what was best for me as the customer. So I told him, no, I'll just remove the storms for you; it's not a big deal (and it took about 10 minutes total anyway). After this, he calmed down and went to work and did a nice job applying the tinting film.
Unfortunately he also carried on a cellphone conversation the entire time via his bluetooth headset. It was not the most professional way to do the job, since it meant i had to listen to his conversation. It also made me realize it didn't take buckets of skill to do this job... and start thinking about doing it myself next time.
Costs: I used a and quot;Big Dealand quot; coupon that did not cover many square feet. My main concern was to cover the sliding glass door, which gets a lot of Southwestern sun, and there would be enough footage left over to cover a window. This turned out not to be nearly enough, because you need to cover all the windows facing one side or the view looks different from one window to another.
Things to know:
  • +Tinting changes both the amount and the color of light that comes through the window, not just the amount of heat. You can see the difference, although it's not that noticeable. You probably won't notice the difference as long as all the windows facing one direction have the same tint. I probably would not tint windows in an art studio or other place where true sunlight is necessary for accurate color; I'm not an expert though.
  • +Next time I would get a higher block on the sliding doors, which get the very most intense sun all afternoon. I would still probably opt for the lower blocking light on the windows so I can retain as much light as possible.
  • +The salesman explained I didn't want to cover only one of the windows in the living room on that side, because you could stand in the room looking out both windows and see the difference in color/light through one of the windows compared to the other.
  • +That said, despite what salesmen might say, you don't need to cover every window in the room to get relief, just all the ones on the affected (hot/bright) side, according to a Well Known Consumer Magazine. So, I have 4 windows in the LR and only covered the 2 on the Southwestern wall. No one has noticed whether they look different from one side of the room to the other in a year, and I can't tell the difference because you expect the light to be different when it comes from another angle.

"I got him out to give an estimate. He is very reliable, and the pricing is reasonable. He was very honest. They provided all the supplies needed. He did an excellent job, and the customer service was great. This was my first time using them. I purchased a Deal from Angie's List $175 Plumbing Service Call Plus Credit Toward Repair. I can not complain about them, they did a great job. They were very professional, and I would recommend them to other people. They were easy to schedule, and proactive with responding back to my calls. His job of cleaning up after words was exceptional."

"

Very pleased with the professionalism of the 3-man team.  34 windows were cleaned well inside and outside using Windex.  Unfortunately, team cracked one window during the cleaning process.  MARGAAA has indicted that we should contract the repair and send MARGAAA the bill for reimbursement.  Would use MARGAAA services again.

"Julio and his team did an excellent job repairing and renovating our 12 x 24 screen porch. They jumped quickly on the project, worked steadily through some frigid winter weather, and completed everything in time for early spring use. Project involved carpentry, structural improvements, painting, carpeting, and installation of new doors and screen-windows. They also handled repair and painting of exterior entrances to our house. Reasonable pricing, good workmanship, highly recommended!"

"This was my second time using Kargman's Inc.  I had planned to have a basement, a section of the stairwell, a bedroom, door, and shutters painted. However, the basement proved to be way more than one man could handle. That was our fault. Our painter for this project, Miguel, did very well until the end.  He must have gotten tired because he painted part of the trim yellow where it would obvious that it should have remained white.  I contacted Ms. Dukes and provided pictures. She was very accommodating. Ms. Dukes arranged for another painter to come out. This painter was named, Elder.  He was wise like an elder.  He took care of the issues in about 45 minutes.  He even caulked some areas as a bonus.  I really appreciate Kargman's follow up in correcting the issue.  They have me as a customer for future projects. I give them an overall A. "

"Great! We had a few places of rotted soffit and facia boards, and another hole caused by squirrels. Pete did a terrific job repairing the holes (even making sure to use PVC boards so we don't have that problem again). He also painted the repaired areas so now it looks brand new. I would definitely recommend rent-a-pro."

FAQs for indoor shutters repair projects in Washington, DC

Yes! If your shutters have minor issues like broken hinges or misaligned panels, they can usually be repaired to restore their function and appearance. Repairing your shutters is often a cost-effective way to maintain their durability and curb appeal. However, for vinyl and composite shutters with extensive damage, it might be more practical to replace them to ensure they perform well in the long run.

Replacing a shutter costs $250 to $700 on average, and this cost covers both removal and installation processes. The expense includes proper disposal of the old shutter and ensures that a new, secure shutter system is installed. Additional fees may arise based on disposal requirements and professional service protocols.

Replacing shutters is not a complex undertaking when proper care is taken. The process requires careful alignment, precise fit, and secure fastening to ensure that the shutters function correctly and enhance the home's appearance. Attention to detail during removal and installation is critical, and skilled professionals provide the expertise needed to maintain both safety and design integrity.

Window shutters cost between $25 and $500 per panel, and this price range reflects the variety of materials and design options available. The cost stated excludes additional hardware and installation fees, which ensure the shutters are securely fixed and aesthetically pleasing. High-quality components lead to long-lasting performance while professional installation safeguards proper alignment.

Window shutters last between 20 and 25 years on average when they are properly maintained. Regular cleaning, timely repairs, and refinishing help protect the shutter's integrity and appearance throughout its expected lifespan. Consistent upkeep preserves functionality and ensures that shutters continue to provide protection and enhance the home's curb appeal over the long term.
