"We were very happy with American Family. Their bid was competitive and the installation of our new air conditioner went very smoothly. They removed the existing system and were great about not destroying our landscape. We had them install the new system in a new location, away from the back patio. So far everything seems to be running fine and I would happily recommend them to anyone."

"Home Comfort Systems was professional, honest and fairly priced. Steve Bilica (owner) came out to give me an estimate on a new furnace. He made me feel comfortable, which is important to me as a single woman. His estimate was the lowest of three I obtained ($4150) and he was so honest, he advised that my current unit didn’t need replacing yet. (The only reason I was getting estimates was because some other cut-throat company told me I needed a new one...for $11k!!...due to a cracked heat exchanger. However, all the other companies I contacted for estimates said I did NOT have a cracked heat exchanger.) I decided not to get a new furnace in the end. It’s been running great, although I did need a new blower motor about five months after the estimate, so Jeff D installed it for me ($385). Way cheaper than a whole new unit, so I’m happy. I’ll definitely go with this company again for repairs and when it’s time for a new furnace."

"Tim was very into the details of the potential installation during the proposal process, which I appreciated. He gave his own advice for which models he thought offered the most bang for the buck, and explained the realistic advantages that we would achieve (or not), by going to higher-end components. This, coupled with a competitive proposal, is why we picked TR Miller for our new HVAC system. The install crew arrived on-time, and was very professional. The installation was clean and appears to be done well. Further more, it was nice to see the small details that Tim mentioned during the proposal process were done as promised, without me having to bug anyone. Based on this good experience, I plan to use TR Miller for my long-term servicing needs."

"I don't know how other HVAC companies compete against TDH. Put in a top brand (Trane) 2 stage for the price others were quoting me for a mid brand one stage. The Installer (Mark Keenan) found a world of hurt when they pulled the old unit out and crafted a great fit on the spot with fixed space limitations (with a trip to the Home Depot). Instead of 5 hours it took 7 to finish the job, did not even ask if he could charge me more - which I would have understood."

"Air Solutions was very professional and informative during a routine cleaning/humidifier replacement. Prefer to use a smaller (family owned) business who is local to me. Signed up for their maintenance program in addition."

"I needed to replace a 25 year old gas furnace with outside AC unit and a 14-year old 40-gallon water heater in a condo unit. The condo is on a concrete slab with a very small first floor utility closet for the furnace and water heater.  Due to upgrading from an older 80% furnace to 95% furnace and the small closet size any new installation would be challenging.
Interviewed and obtained estimates from several contractors for this job.  A number of contactors were less enthusiastic about the job mainly due to the retrofitting from steel flue pipe to the PVC venting.
Decided to go with Blue Frost Heating & Cooling for this job.  Gil Wagner from Blue Frost Heating & Cooling showed the most confidence in doing a nice job in completing this challenging project.
Originally the job was going to be just the furnace and AC replacement, with the possibility of replacing the water heater. However while reviewing the estimates it became clear a new conventional water heater would no longer fit in the utility closet due to the size increase for new April 15th energy efficiency standards for water heaters. Decided to add a Navien tankless water heater to the project.
Really appreciated Gil?s patience  and accommodations as I worked through some additional project details like adding a custom floor drain pan, adding whole house water filter system to help with anti-scaling for the tankless water heater and getting condo association approval for the PVC venting changes.
Larry and Nick were the Blue Frost installers for the project.  Nothing but high praise for both Larry and Nick.  They treated the installation as if they were doing it for their own home.   Several times Larry and Nick would stop and verify with me regarding the equipment arrangements in the tight closet.  They listened when I suggested alternatives. I?ve seen neighbors with a real mess in the utility closet.  Larry and Nick took great care to neatly fit everything into the small utility closet. Could not be more pleased with the results.
One additional item. Anyone considering an AC replacement and wondering if the additional cost for variable speed compressor vs. a 2-stage compressor is justified, all I can say is yes, it is worth the extra cost.
I have a two story unit with a master bedroom that faces the hot afternoon sun.  This room was always at least 8-degrees warmer than the rest of the house. To make the bedroom comfortable, the rest of the house  becomes uncomfortably cold.
With the new Trane variable speed AC compressor and the variable speed blower the upstairs and downstairs temperature remain the same.  That comfort improvement is worth the extra cost.  And there are two additional benefits with the variable speed compressor:  1) the whole house is now very comfortable with the temperature set at 77-degrees, 2) with the slower blower speeds I can hardly tell when the unit is on.

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Wheaton, IL

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
