"Larry and his guys did a truly excellent job replacing our front concrete sidewalks with brick to match our house. Our concrete sidewalks were old, crumbling, and crooked, and our new brick sidewalk really makes our house look so much more welcoming! He's dependable and does high-quality work. I recommend him without reservation!"

"We just had C & brothers Home Improvement replace the deck in our backyard. When we started our project, we obtained several estimates, but C & brothers Home Improvement stood out as the only company who listened to our ideas and were willing to help us plan our perfect deck. Their work from day one was very professional, and they kept us informed about any schedule updates. Their work is very detail oriented and the care they take in their work is difficult to find in todayâ s world. We absolutely love our deck and are planning to use C & brothers Home Improvement for future projects. Thanks, C & brothers!"

"I was very pleased with the process and the finished result. Angel Tuesta Noel, the owner of the business, is very hands-on and responded quickly whenever I had questions or when we encountered the need to deviate from the architect’s plans. The whole project was completed in 4 1/2 months, with the only delay being due to coordination with DCRA inspectors. Angel had lots of suggestions for ways to enhance the overall design of the project and save me money."

"My experience with Greystone was outstanding from start to finish. They installed a large stamped concrete patio with a block retaining wall and widened my driveway. Both jobs turned out fantastic. The driveway took extra coordination with VDOT, and Greystone worked with the VDOT representative and took care of everything. The crews were careful with my yard and brought plywood to minimize the impact of the heavy equipment and materials. When the driveway was installed they took extra care to cover it and protect it from the weather. A separate crew came after each job to clean up, both did an outstanding job. On both projects one of the owners stopped by to ensure things were going smoothly. My experience with the estimate, design, scheduling and installation and with everyone I dealt with at Greystone was outstanding. I'd use them again on any concrete or block project."

"The deck installation went very well. I was completely satisfied with the quality work provided by Hector and his crew. Want to put Alvaro in the spotlight as he was the one who built the deck and put a divider that I requested. It was a beautiful job, the pride of my neighborhood. It was definitely a work of art, Alvaro was very meticulous and was very articulate in all the details. Magnificent job, and I'm so glad I hired Tough Builders to do my deck. Completely satisfied and I'm hiring them again as we speak to do another patio job. Don't be skeptical, Hector's crew is the best in town."

"Martin Allen did a great job. He replaced about 25 cracked or broken bricks on our front stoop and our patio behind the house. The bricks he installed match the older bricks very well and his masonry work was quite professional."

"Gregory was great to work with. Gave me an honest assessment of the problem and a fair price to fix it. He worked quickly and the finished product was like new. Would hire again in a heartbeat."

"Ryan Reph Remodeling has completed three major projects for me in the last three years. The first project involved the installation of a new oversize walk-in basement shower and renovation of the adjacent basement laundry room. I was so pleased with the quality of the work, the following year I hired them to renovate the master bathroom, original to 1958 when the house was built. A complete tear-out was required and new “everything” was installed – inside and outside the bathroom walls. Even though I selected moderately priced materials, the end product was stunning. I recently moved into another older house and they are almost finished with two projects there. One involved the construction of a main level laundry/mud room with an entrance from the garage into the house and the other was the installation of a wet bar/kitchenette in the basement rec room. Like the previous projects, the end result of these two projects is amazing. Within the next year or two I am hoping to renovate the basement bathroom in the new house and Ryan will, without doubt, be my contractor for that project as well. Before my first experience with Ryan, I had never hired a commercial contractor to do any work for me. I was fortunate to have a Dad who could do anything and do it beautifully. He and I were able to tackle all of my various home improvement projects. When I lost my Dad my home improvement projects were limited to various painting projects and small focused speciality projects (floor refinishing, replacement windows). I had heard horror stories from family and friends about working with contractors and simply didn’t want to get involved in a major project where I had to rely on someone I didn’t know. But the time came when I needed access to an ADA accessible shower so I turned to one of the online contractor referral services and “found” Ryan Reph Remodeling (RRR). I reached out to RRR and they contacted me almost immediately. Selwa came to my home, reviewed the scope of work and provided an estimate. Ryan followed up to walk through the project with me. I felt the estimate was fair, I was very comfortable with Selwa and Ryan, and after contacting the references they provided I signed a contract to have the work done. (Yes, RRR was the only contractor I contacted!). They have now done 3 projects for me and I can’t imagine working with anyone else. I have worked with two of Ryan’s crews. Both crews were very professional – skilled, knowledgeable and talented. Every worker Ryan has sent into my home has been polite, friendly and helpful. They show a great deal of respect for my home and use drop cloths, dust barriers and floor protectors while they work. At the end of each workday they clean up, put their tools and materials away and leave the house as livable as practical during a major construction project. Ryan gets all required permits in his name, his crew members are onsite to meet with the county building inspectors when they conduct the required inspections, and every inspection has passed on the first try. Selwa is a talented designer and she has developed contacts with a variety of suppliers who provide thoughtful help with material selections. Ryan and Selwa are both easy to work with and communication with them throughout the project is very efficient. I feel very fortunate that I “found” Ryan Reph Remodeling and I look forward to working with them on future home improvement projects. The attached pictures are a "before" and "after" of the master bath remodel."

"<p>I have a front porch with a concrete surface, brickwork around it, and brick steps. The concrete surface had a major crack, the brickwork had numerous cracks, and the brick steps had mortar deterioration. I found Manning Masonry Doctor on Angie's List and called Mr. Manning. I told Mr. Manning that I wanted the crack to be replaced with decorative bricks; the other repairs were to be made as normally would be. Mr. Manning discussed the project with me in detail and provided me with an estimate in a reasonable period of time. </p> <p>The work took about three days. Mr. Manning was always willing to answer questions and explain what he was doing. He protected the house and plants near the work area. He took extra precautions to eliminate dust from entering the house.</p> <p>About three weeks after the work was finished, a crack developed in some of the new mortar. I contacted Mr. Manning who arranged to return in a few days to replace the mortar. That repair held.</p> <p>I found Mr. Manning to be very professional and true to his word. I recommend him and I will use his services again. </p> <br />"

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Winchester, VA

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
