"My experience with Greystone was outstanding from start to finish. They installed a large stamped concrete patio with a block retaining wall and widened my driveway. Both jobs turned out fantastic. The driveway took extra coordination with VDOT, and Greystone worked with the VDOT representative and took care of everything. The crews were careful with my yard and brought plywood to minimize the impact of the heavy equipment and materials. When the driveway was installed they took extra care to cover it and protect it from the weather. A separate crew came after each job to clean up, both did an outstanding job. On both projects one of the owners stopped by to ensure things were going smoothly. My experience with the estimate, design, scheduling and installation and with everyone I dealt with at Greystone was outstanding. I'd use them again on any concrete or block project."

"It took a little while to get a return call after initial contact, but after that it was an excellent experience. The estimate $300-400 lower than the next lowest estimate. Workers arrived on schedule and completed work in just 2 days. They performed a thorough cleanup at the end of each day and their work was beautiful. <br />"

"So like a number of other house, we had sinking front concrete steps. Our sizable front stairs had sunk about 6 inches and pull the attached walk with it. It got to the point we just had to have them replaced. I checked out various options for having them mud-jacked, but my concern was that that would not really fix the issue for the long term and they would just end up sinking again. After getting several bids we went with Tavis at Quality Concrete and Masonry. They weren't the cheapest bid but seemed the most trustworthy and had the best plan to make sure the problem did not re-occur. Tavis started on a Tuesday and was essentially work complete by Saturday. His work was very high quality. Because of the site, amount of concrete, etc. he used 1.5" rebar instead of the standard 0.5" rebar to tie the steps to the house. ( I've never even seen 1.5" rebar before.) Site was left clean each day and the final product exceeded our expectations."

"Was told it would take 2 weeks to complete job. Job completed 10 weeks later only to be torn out and started over after I complained to owner. Shower walls were torn out twice and floor of shower 3 times. Crockett was to return and fix molding and painting after the last floor replacement. I have called 3 times to arrange for cleanup and painting to be be completed and have yet to get a return call from George Crockett. One guy broke a pipe off in the floor of bathroom and it stained the ceiling below in family room. This repair was also not completed. I highly recommend. finding another contractor if you are going to do any remodeling."

"Our house is SO much warmer! What a huge difference this has made. Crew was professional, on-time and did a great job. Office staff was responsive in letting me know when weather necessitated a schedule change. And I got a phone call after the work was done (and BEFORE the invoice arrived) asking if I was satisfied with the work. Thank you!"

"The quote was timely.  The work was performed on time. It was a good thing that we stayed around to keep the crew from making some mistakes in the layout. Essentially, we supervised the crew.  There was very little supervision by the company's management.  The work crew was great. They worked hard in some of the hotest heat of the year.  They listened to us and took care of the layout dveiations immediately."

"After deciding on the tile, ordering and receiving (about 2 weeks) Mr. Monteleone scheduled commencement, length of work and expected completion date. Commencement and completion were spot on.  Workmanship was excellent and very professional.  Tile was grouted and sealed.  I would recommend this fine craftsman and his crew for any task."

"The strengths of Green Acres included high quality work on patio areas and walls. They do extensive preparation that so far appears to provide a solid foundation for the patio and walls. The ponds they installed are quite lovely and overall we are pleased with the quality of the installation itself. Bill Garren provided good input on design. The crew generally worked very hard. In particular one member of the crew took the initiative to build a retaining wall out of rocks available at the worksite that solved a runoff problem exacerbated by the Green Acres’ installed masonry walls, but not accommodated by their design. <br /> The major issue we had involved the pervasive lack of supervision of the crew which led to mistakes, including the installation of a gutter within the parking area rather than at the bottom edge of the parking area—as we had repeatedly told Bill Garren. While Bill offered to remove and reinstall the gutter, we would have had a large repair in the parking area susceptible to <br /> generation of potholes in winter, so we opted to leave it where it is. The hardscaping plan included construction of a bench using a marble slab on site. A Green Acres employee crushed the marble slab by toppling a pallet of blocks on it. The marble slab <br /> could have been easily moved prior to placing the pallet adjacent to it or the pallet could have been placed elsewhere. We were offered no recompense for destruction of the slab or failure to construct the bench. They also ruptured the water line to the house and cut the underground phone line; both were repaired fairly quickly. Overall the work could have been done much more efficiently if adequately supervised, which would have shortened the time spent on the job and produced fewer mistakes. Several final details were not completed, in particular, the placement of additional decorative stones, which are plentifully and easily available near the construction site. Application of mortar on the front steps was totally inadequate, with dozens of gaps and holes left. While these gaps and holes were readily observable, the installer (Garren’s project supervisor) refused to <br /> comply with the our request to look over all the mortar joints and apply additional mortar where needed. Instead, <br /> he initially demanded that the homeowner point out each of dozens of defects. And finally, the crew laid a bed of <br /> gravel alongside the project area to facilitate the movement of their equipment across the bare clay. We now have <br /> an unsightly layer of gravel, in which we suspect nothing but weed grass will grow, alongside the new walkway. No attempt was made to mitigate or correct this gravel bed. A heavy truck delivering material crushed a brick pillar at top of our driveway because the driver turned in the wrong direction. We accepted Green Acres offer to rebuild the pillar and asked that they move it a couple of feet farther from the driveway. Although relocating the pillar would have resulted in substantially no additional work, Bill Garren refused unless we paid him to relocate it. We rather thought our forbearance regarding the marble slab and the incorrectly placed gutter warranted some consideration on his part. <br /> In addition, we would have appreciated candor on the part of Bill in realistically estimating the start of the project and the completion. He said he was delayed several weeks by rain. Undoubtedly the unusually heavy rain delayed him this summer. This does not explain or excuse his empty promises of a full work crew for the entire project, including when he would have people on site to correct discrepancies such as the mortar joints mentioned above and an incompetently installed electric cable for the pond pump that caused the pump to stop working. We did not have the full crew for the vast majority of the work, as the <br /> supervisor was offsite doing other jobs or attending to personal matters. <br /> Overall I think they are overpriced and I would probably not do business with them again. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Wytheville, VA

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
