"We discovered a gas leak and hired them to come out and repair. They did an excellent job when ultimately the entire line needed replacing."

"My mother-in-law contacted this company to fix a leaking gas line in her home. Plumber (Bryce) came out in a timely manner and checked on the status of their lines. After finding 11 leaks near fittings it was recommended to replace the old gas line. At this point, everything seemed good and then came the quote. This company wanted roughly $3800 to replace by their estimate; 50ft of line from the meter through a drop-down ceiling with easy access to two appliances. Making the job cost a whopping $75 afoot! At this point, I got involved as it was clear they were taking advantage of her given the time of year (New Years) and the cold temperature. Having worked in construction for many years, I asked Bryce why this relatively simple job was going to cost so much. After some back and forth he became defensive and hung up on me. I advised my mother-in-law to pay for the work they had done and never talk to this company again. She made an appointment with another more reputable company and they quoted her $980 ($20 an ft) to do the same work! Now tell me where the $2800+ difference comes in besides this company seeking to take advantage of women in a bad situation. It is practices like this that give this industry a bad name and I would be ashamed to be associated with this company in any way. Always get second opinions on work and watch out for companies like this they prey on peoples trust. UPDATE: Was contacted by the company manager, they apologized for what happened and stated that the above tech had been let go due to past transgressions of a similar nature. Additionally they waived the service fee she had been charged for that techs works. I appreciate the manager taking the time to try and make this right and reaching out to her. Updated rating based on these actions. "They were unable to clear the drain through exhaustive effort, and quoted a pipe replacement that would be required to finish the job. The quote to do that work was about $4800.00. I chose to get a second opinion, and they suggested the same repairs, but the quote to do the work was just over half the price quoted by Mr. Rooter. I used the other company and they were great."

" My husband and I have a perplexing situation that perhaps someone can shed some light upon. About 14 years ago we built our home and we had gas heater installed in our garage. The cost for installation the heater hooking up the gas line and thermostat cost around $400.
This fall we noticed that the pilot light was not on. In the past when we had any problems with our furnace we called Smith and Sons heating and air-conditioning and received excellent reasonable service. We knew that Smith and Sons heating had been purchased by Bassett services so we called them and arrange a service call.
The Basset service man check the unit and determined that the thermocouple was operating but we had a defective gas valve. He called his office to check on the availability and price of a replacement gas valve Honeywell VS 820. We were told that a replacement gas valve would cost approximately $750 without any guarantee and was non-returnable. He said that it would be more reasonable to replace the entire gas heater. The service man arrange fora Bassett consultant to come and give us an estimate to replace the heater. We received an estimate from Bassett for a new replacement heater- H25N, adapt to same gas line, reconnect to existing thermostat, test and fire unit. The total cost was $2175 including tax.
We may be old and retired, we are not stupid!
My husband researched online and found a Honeywell the VS820 Powerpile Gas Valve for $99.45 including shipping.
He also found several H25N infrared garage heaters( exact replacement )from prices between $275 and $330. With free shipping.
Included in our estimate were several Angie's list super service awards along with several BBB complaint free awards. Our question is does this seem reasonable.
This makes me fill less confident with using Angie's list. I hope anyone using Bassett services will get more than one estimate!

"Mike came to our home we just purchased and installed a gas line for our dryer. After installing, Mike stopped back by our home to hook up our dryer once it had arrived, and ensured there were no gas leaks for safe operation of our dryer in our home. He did great work, and anticipate contacting him in the future for other jobs."

"We are on a service agreement with them. We are not the original owners of our home. We purchased the home in October of 2013. In March of that year, the previous owner installed an entirely new HVAC system, about $20,000 worth. There are 2 heat pumps and 2 furnaces. It's a hybrid system, so it will either run on electric or gas, depending on exterior temperatures. RT Moore was the installer. While we were not required to go with them on servicing, they are familiar with the system. They are the installers and it's a Carrier brand. So we are inclined to go forward with them and we are on a service agreement. We've had them since we moved here almost 3 years to the day.
Our agreement is they do a twice a year inspection and cleaning and everything. In the fall it focuses on the heating. Then we'll have them in May. I haven't scheduled the service yet but usually within a week or so of the call, they'll be here. That one will focus on the cooling.
We've been very pleased with their punctuality, professionalism and the quality of the work."
