"Doug from Suburban Window Fashions Inc. was fantastic! He took the time to talk to us over the phone about our motorized blinds issue and scheduled a service appt. the next day. Once at our home, he was able to quickly diagnose the problem, fix it, and re-program our remote. (All of this was especially helpful as these were Three Day Blinds products purchased by the previous home owner and when we called Three Day Blinds for assistance, they told us our warranty was voided and they couldn’t help us.) In the future, I will call Doug for any service needs or when we are ready for new Hunter Douglas or Graber blinds. Thanks, Doug! You are the motorized blind wizard!"

"Harold Blazeks did a wonderful job in repairing our shades. Their price was fair and he completed the repairs in 1 hour. Marilyn called in the morning and gave us a time of 2:30PM and he arrived at 2:31PM. We would recommend the Blazers for Hunter Douglas repairs anytime. Thank you Don & Noel Thomson St. Charles Il."

"After failing to show up for the initial estimate, I gave them a second chance. Several double pane windows were leaking and fogging. Company was to measure and repair at my house. Turns out they only had a couple of colors for the grills inside the panes which didn’t match the other windows. They had to come to my house 3 or 4 times to complete the job. They had to take parts back to their shop and left our house temporarily with broken and disfigured windows. They also repaired a patio screen and had a great deal of difficulty. The worker was very angry while fixing it. It turned out very sloppy and I had to redo it myself. The final result for the windows was good."

"There were three contractors involved in the rehab of our front entrance: Murphy’s Windows & Sunroom for the entry door and staining, The Steam Whisperer for the radiator and Ardrahan Woodworking for the bench. Murphy’s was the lead contractors but all did an outstanding job; as they each not only exceled at their individual tasks, but worked well with each other to ensure a timely finish to the project and minimal disruption to the running of our home. This was critical we have a preschooler and I run a design business out of the house and have clients come through the front door daily! We knocked out the closet and fixed the plaster ourselves so the craftsmen had a clean slate to work with. A cast iron radiator was added to the room to heat the room, but as the walls in this room were not insulated – therefore, the door needed to allow for temperature control between the entry room and the living room. Ardrahan Woodworking built the bench with slots for shoes and to allow heat to circulate from the new radiator. A drawer was added for function, as well as hooks for guests’ coats. (Ardrahan also did their own staining of their own work) Murphy’s then came and installed the pre-hung door they helped me select to fit our purpose. Their craftsmen took a full day to custom build the new trim to match the adjacent door – the match of style was perfect. Finally, Murphy’s sent their stain guy to match the stain – a true artist – as the crown molding in the front entrance was a few shades darker than the living room. So to make the best match he stained the two sides of the door to match the side they are on – and did both sides dead on color! The space is now warm (temperature), open and welcoming. It is everything we hoped it would be and more! All three contractors came in on time, one budget and exceeded our expectations in craftsmanship!"

"It went spectacular. I scheduled an appointment very late in the fall season because so many trees were still holding there leaves. The first day of decent weather the team from Amruss was up on the roof getting out a years worth of dirty, wet leaves, sticks, and other debris. I have used Amruss for this service for three or four years now and am always happy with the results. This year they even went a step further and shot photos on their cells of the clean second story gutters to show me. They even managed to use their leaf blower to clean out my downspouts. That was really great. I highly recommend Amruss and will be using them again and again. Thanks Amruss team!!"

"I submitted a request on Angie's List in the morning. I received a call from Doug at Pro Team Works about 1 hour later, advising me that he could send a tech out the same day. Doug confirmed the Angie's List price for service, stating I could either write a check for the tech, provide a credit card number over the phone, or mail my payment. The tech showed up about 2-3 hours later. He worked quickly and left no mess. He did a great job. This is the second time I have hired them for gutter cleaning, and will do so again in the future. I highly recommend them."

"Ibro updated our master bath, removing a jacuzzi tub, relocating the toilet and shower. The bathroom looks beautiful and Ibro had some great ideas and advice that helped make it so. Ibro and Abraham were lovely and respectful so having them in our home was no problem. Part of our project included painting the existing cabinets. This part or the project did not go well. We were really unhappy with the job the painting crew did. Ibro did his best to rectify the problems on his own, taking doors and repainting them properly himself. He is definitely a man who takes pride in his work and keeps his word. Our project finished at 30% more than our original quote. We were no doubt largely to blame for that but I think a more detailed initial quote would have helped us to feel better about it."

FAQs for blinds or shades repair projects in Crystal Lake, IL

If you're wondering whether repairing your blinds is worth it, consider the quality and age of your blinds. For high-end or custom blinds, repairing them can preserve their quality, functionality, and design, making repair a smart choice. Immediate repairs maintain the original look and performance. However, if your blinds are over six years old, extensively damaged, or of lower quality, replacing them might be more cost-effective, as new blinds offer better efficiency and modern technology. Weigh the repair costs against the benefits of replacement to make the best decision for your situation.

When damage undermines the integrity and appearance of your blinds, replacement becomes the clear option. You should replace your blinds when damage to slats or fabric prevents you from obtaining an exact match, thereby compromising appearance and function. Severe damage increases repair complexity and expense. Replacing blinds not only restores superior performance but also creates an opportunity for aesthetic upgrades and lasting benefits.

You should plan to replace your blinds at least every 10 years, with clear signs of wear, such as discoloration, deterioration, or functional issues, emerging by five years. Regular evaluation of style, quality, and performance supports an informed decision. While minor repairs may temporarily extend usability, a complete replacement secures optimal operation and updated design.

Establish a regular maintenance routine to keep your blinds looking and functioning their best. Clean them regularly with mild, specialized products and follow the manufacturer's recommended usage guidelines. UV-blocking window film can protect against fading and warping from sun exposure. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance will preserve their appearance and performance, extending their overall lifespan.

If you pull the blind string and it does not move, it indicates a malfunction in the mechanism, such as a broken cord, a jammed cord lock, or a stuck component. Inspect the string for breaks and examine the headrail for any obstructions. Replace the defective cord or cord lock as necessary to restore proper operation and maintain functionality.

Yes, you can replace your blind string yourself by using a replacement kit available at home improvement stores. Accurate measurement of the string diameter is essential for a perfect fit. Gather the necessary tools and follow the manufacturer’s instructions rigorously to secure a safe, lasting fix. If the task demands more time than anticipated, hiring a professional is advisable to avoid further damage.
