"On the 27th of April 2022, Rob and Seth of Maynor Services installed my new Trane Gas Pack HVAC system. Both actually showed up early and were waiting out front before our appointment. We talked briefly about what they were going to be doing and they got right to work. You could tell that they’d worked together as a team for a while as they both tackled different areas without any discussion. Seth even dug up and moved two shrubs to make room for removing the old unit and installing the new unit. At the end, he replanted them and both shrubs have survived like they were never disturbed. They removed all the old equipment, including stuff under the house without a trace. The new unit went in perfectly and the sheet metal covering the ducts and attaching everything back to the house looked so much better and more professional than the old installation. Rob only had to come into the house just a couple of times; to remove the old control system and thermostats and install the new thermostats. It was a full day’s work for Rob and Seth, but the results were perfect. Both were very personable and I would highly recommend them as team to install Trane equipment to anyone. I’ve used Maynor for preventive maintenance on my old equipment for two years leading up to replacing my 16-year-old system and kept it operating perfectly, but now, before it really gets hot and while equipment was available seemed to be the smart time to make an upgrade."

"Called in these folks for a recurring problem with our 2nd floor AC unit leaking freon. Other vendors had investigated, but we had not yet come up with a consensus on the diagnosis. Very nice, very professional. First visit was unable to produce any insight, but I felt due diligence was quite thorough. A second appointment was setup to run a more thorough regression test. Unfortunately, it too was inconclusive. I felt they had done everything they could to diagnose a very tricky issue. Their final prognosis was that it had to be one of a couple of very rare and odd possibilities. Didn't feel too comfortable with this, but had no basis to argue. Total cost at this point between the two visits was $300 with no real progress. Eventually, we stumbled upon an excellent veteran AC repairman who investigated and confirmed an earlier hunch, and was able to explain why. We hired him to fix the problem, a leaky compressor coil (had to replace), and we've have never had a problem since. Now that we know what the issue was, I'd have to say I'm fairly disappointed with this vendor's performance. They firmly disputed the compressor coil as a possible cause. And we paid a decent amount of cash for this misdiagnosis. We'll stick with the guy who eventually fixed the problem as our AC repairman from here on out.

"I set up an appointment for a quote from Cape Fear based on a recommendation from a neighbor, and Justin came on time (he actually called and asked if it would be OK if he came early). He was easy to work with, seemed very knowledgeable, and very thorough as he looked at my current setup and discussed the various options for replacement. I liked some of the recommendations he made as far as adjusting some of the duct routing to ease air flow. I decided to have him quote a 2-ton Trane XL16c packaged AC / Gas Furnace unit and XL16c hybrid (AC and gas furnace / heat pump), which was brand new at the time - it wasn't even in their system yet. When I was provided with a quote, the paper listed the 3-ton unit since the 2-ton unit was so new, but Justin assured me that the price was for the 2-ton unit. I received another quote for the same unit from a different company, and the price was significantly lower. So, I went back to Justin and asked him to double check the price. He did confirm that the price listed on my quote was for a 3-ton unit and provided a new number for the 2-ton unit, but I was left with a bad feeling over what would have happened if I hadn't received a competitive quote and questioned them. Also, the other company I dealt with talked with the Trane rep, and stated while the XL16C gas pack was available in a 2-ton unit, the hybrid unit (with gas furnace and heat pump) was not available in a 2-ton unit. This quote process was at the end of December, and they offered an extra $500 off if we would install before the end of the year. Would they have taken the money for a 3-ton unit and only delivered a 2-ton unit, or would they have realized the error when I went to pay and said 'we quoted you the wrong price'? If I ordered the hybrid unit and paid for a 2-ton unit, what would have been delivered? These could have been honest mistakes or not - I really have no way of knowing. In the end, I didn't feel comfortable with the way the quote process went, so I decided to go with another vendor."

"Removed old hot water tank and replaced it with a tankless hot water heater. Work was done in crawl space with less than six feet height available in work area. All done in a few hours last September. It's now the following August (11 months or so later). Everything seems to be working okay. Workmen were polite, professional, timely, focused on the job, carried away all the old parts and cleaned up well---we were quite pleased with the whole process."

"In summary: They were - Friendly - Accommodating - Error prone, both in installation and in documentation. - Willing to work until they finally got issues fully resolved. More detail below: Eventually, with enough effort on my part, I think I got a good installation with an accurate invoice. I believe that they were interested in providing a good installation. But there were many errors along the way which only I caught so that they could be corrected, both with the installation and the invoice. They were extremely friendly and easy to work with. I, like many engineers, research systems like these before starting the quoting process. So I knew enough to know many of the items to watch for to ensure a quality installation. For instance, when their technician came out to do the quote, I asked if the following things would be done: 1) Flush the existing coolant lines to clean them out, 2) Check the CFM (cubic feet per minute of airflow), and 3) When brazing the copper supply lines, would they flood them internally with nitrogen to eliminate oxidation, which can cause reliability problems years later. The answer to all three of these was yes. However, at installation, 1) They did not flush the coolant lines. Later they told me that Carrier advises against it, which is fine. But why their technician say that they would do it? 2) They did not check the CFM, until after a couple of later requests from me to do it on a return visit. 3) Their technicians did not plan on brazing with nitrogen even though they had a tank of nitrogen with them. They said that they didn’t even know how to do a complete nitrogen braze, which means that they had been installing HVAC systems without doing it for years. I wonder about the reliability of those other installations. Eventually, another technician with more training arrived and showed them how to do it. In addition, during the installation, they did not level the compressor correctly until I pointed it out to them. They later fixed this. The first thermostat they installed was a nice one, but it was wired incorrectly. I found this and reported it to them. Also, it was the wrong type. It did not have a way to activate the HVAC’s special feature to reduce humidity beyond that which a typical system does. I paid quite a bit more for a system which had this feature, but unless I had noticed this, I never would have gotten it. They came out and replaced the thermostat with another thermostat with the humidity control feature. But for whatever reason, when it thought it was time to reduce the humidity, it just turned on the blower, which does nothing to reduce humidity. I found that neither of the first two thermostats was the more expensive one which Carrier recommended as part of the installation. I reported this to them, and they then came out to install the third thermostat which finally got things working right. They did not charge me anything for the more expensive thermostat. It took 5 different invoices from them before I got one which had no errors in it. Problems included: no factory rebate included, factory rebate added, rather than subtracted from price, wrong equipment listed, and wrong serial numbers. I caught all of these problems and had them fixed. They also found that they had to change the thermostat model on one of the revisions of the invoice. This worked to my benefit as the changed thermostat model increased my factory rebate considerably. Finally, after paying them, they did not send out a receipt showing that I had paid them, even though I was told that I would get one by email. After not getting it, they simply took the final invoice, and hand-wrote on it that it was paid, the amount, the date, and the name of the person who wrote this by hand. They scanned it and emailed it to me. When I asked if there was not a more formal receipt, they said that this is all they supply for those who ask for payment documentation. Again, I think their heart was in the right place. When there was an error found, they did everything they could to make it right. But it was generally me, not them, who found the errors. I am not an HVAC expert, but still found the issues. They were generally quite friendly to work with."

"ARS is the HVAC service provider since we bought this house from the builder. Furthermore, ARS was the HVAC sub during its construction. This visit was to remove a worn-out humidifier, replace it, and replace a UV bulb. Jonathan was the technician. He provided excellent service."

"Sales rep was very knowlegable about their product. I would have liked to have known about a rebate SEER model that could have been installed. My Electric Co-Op (South River ) gives rebates on SEER 17 models. But I am happy with what has been installed. Install techs found a problem during installation, and replaced bad part and correcting serial numbers prior to departing. Thanx :-)"

FAQs for central humidifier installation and replacement projects in Durham, NC

A crawl space dehumidifier is a worthwhile investment, particularly in humid climates or if you've noticed musty odors, mold growth, or wood deterioration. Though costs range from $3,000 to $9,200, this investment helps prevent structural damage that could require far more expensive repairs later. Beyond structural protection, a properly dehumidified crawl space contributes to better overall indoor air quality and may reduce allergens throughout your home. Consider having a professional assessment to determine if your specific situation warrants this investment.

Addressing crawl space moisture effectively often requires a combination of solutions. A complete approach includes encapsulation plus dehumidifier installation. For minor moisture issues, a basic dehumidifier starting at $1,500 may suffice, while severe problems in larger spaces could require systems costing up to $14,000. The most effective moisture control strategy depends on your specific conditions, making a professional assessment valuable for determining the most cost-effective approach for your situation.

For a crawl space measuring 1,500 square feet, you'll need a dehumidifier with a daily capacity of 30 to 50 pints, with unit costs ranging from $150 to $600. Your local climate and existing moisture levels may necessitate adjusting this capacity—homes in particularly humid regions might benefit from higher-capacity units. Professional installers can measure your specific humidity conditions and recommend equipment that is appropriately sized, balancing initial cost with operating efficiency for your unique situation.

Crawl space dehumidifiers add $300 to $500 to your annual electricity expenses when operating continuously. Energy-efficient models reduce this consumption by roughly 15 to 30% compared to standard units. Most contemporary dehumidifiers feature humidity sensors that automatically cycle operation based on current conditions, helping manage energy usage. Proper crawl space encapsulation significantly improves efficiency by creating a controlled environment that requires less dehumidifier runtime, thereby reducing ongoing electricity costs.
