"I highly recommend Midlothian Mechanical. My parents bought a Ryan Home in a 55+ community a year and a half ago. The home was actually built for them. Entering the first summer (4-6 months after moving in) the AC did not work. My parents called the company that installed the unit to come out and were charged an outrageous amount, when it should have been free under warranty. Never buy anything that Ryan Homes makes!!!!! Entering this summer the unit did not work again. I told my parents to use Midlothian Mechanical. I have used them for 17 years and they helped me out of a similar bind when I bought my house. They were beyond fair to me for the work they had to do at my home. My unit has worked perfectly ever since. When I called for my parents they fit them in right away. They worked 6-8 hours on repairing what the builder put in. In fact the owner of Midlothian Mechanical came out himself to help the technician track down the issues. The unit now works great, but more importantly he/they were beyond fair to my parents. He could have charged them dearly for their time and effort and been well within their right as it was a big task to backtrack and find all the other company's mistakes. I won't give the price but I will tell you I was trying to get them to take more. I definitely believe my parents were under charged for the excellent service and expertise they received. "I had my SC evaporator unit freeze up right before the temps started reaching 100. I called that night, and they came out the next morning to investigate. ( had to wait for the unit to defrost before they could diagnose it) We discovered that it was low on Freon, which caused the freezing, but when we opened up the cover to the evaporator, it was completely rusted. The lack of airflow caused the unit to rust out. This was the original AC installed 24 years ago. They also discovered that the builder undersized all the duct-work. the size of the return, couldn't supply enough air to the system. (yes, i checked the math, and they were correct). They gave me several options on replacing the unit, and I went with the most efficient, highest SEER rating, since we're planning on staying in the house at least another 10 years. They replaced both the furnace, and the AC unit, and ran all new, larger duct-work, they arrived promptly at 8 AM, and the crew finished up around 6 PM. There was an issue with the mainboard controller (factory problem), and they followed up and replaced it. The whole crew was polite, friendly, and cleaned up after themselves. The new unit is much quieter, the airflow downstairs is dramatically better, and hopefully, I'l start to see those energy savings in my next Dominion Power bill :)"

"The A/C at our rental property was running, but not keeping the house cool. I called five different A/C companies that had A ratings on Angie's list and asked how much they charged for the service fee and how much they charged per pound for R22. Three of the companies including K&J) told me their rates directly and two told me that they "bundle" the R22 cost with labor costs. I appreciated that K&J were up front with their costs and they had the best rates. The technicians showed up on time and were very professional. They immediately checked the unit outside and the air handler inside. Both were frozen up with ice. They turned off the unit and we waited for it to thaw out. While waiting the tech's (Cory and Mark) were very jovial and pleasant to talk to. Once the unit thawed out they hooked up the gages and diagnosed the problem as low refrigerant. They showed me on the gage were the correct level should be and where my unit was. They kept me informed the whole time and were very thorough. They ended up having to clean the coil in order to get the unit to take in the refrigerant. They told me the cost before they did it and asked me if I wanted them to proceed. Once the cioils were clean they added 1lb of R22 (in .5 lb increments). Then they went inside and checked the vent with a laser thermometer to make sure the temp was in the proper range. I was able to pay credit right there on the spot and they gave me a discount for using Angie's list. I would highly recommend K&J Mechanical. They did excellent work on time and at a great price. There was even a follow up call to see if I was satisfied with the service.
