"Week before last we thought we had a clogged toilet.. It was apparently the main sewer line. We called a commercial franchise plumber out and $550 later we thought everything was fixed. This was on a Thursday. By the following Monday we were experiencing the same thing. We call them back out because it was a 6 month warranty. They diagnosed the issue stating we needed to get the main sewer line ( about 1-3 feet) replaced and they would need to dig a huge hole in the basement and etc.. Estimate was more than a small car. I called around to a few other companies and got more expensive quotes. I called A1 Patrick's Plumbing & Sewer Services - Plumbing Contractor & Plumbing Installation and he came out the same night ( last tuesday) and gave me a resonable quote for the same services. When I tell you I am so glad I called this man. My house is 70 years old and my family has lived here for 26 years. This sewer line was CLOGGED... his team dug the hole, replaced the pipes, cleaned them out and discovered tree roots and 4 feet of stuff that shall not be named. He & his team installed a cleanout in case this happened again we wouldn't have an issue getting it cleaned. This company hands down had excellent service and the owner was respectful, nice and delivered what he promised plus a 10 year warranty ."

"Tim promptly reached out and set up an estimate appt for replacing my sump pump system. Was very informative and explained the recommended job details well and clearly. Seemed fairly priced compared to other quotes. Was on time for install appt, explained the system and showed me the sensors/light functions. Exceeded expectations. Would recommend Tim/Drains Inc to family and friends. "

"Jan is awesome. He is very responsive and knows his business incredibly well. His response time and availability is great. I also love that he has you send pictures of the issue so that he can take a look and usually diagnose the issue and what needs to happen from that. While he was replacing my disposal, I happened to remember to ask him about the low water pressure in my master shower. He took a look and in two minutes knew it was a dirty filter and had replaced that small part. I hadn't bothered to do anything before b/c it wasn't terrible pressure and I figured it was just an old shower head that probably needed to be replaced or a deep cleaning. To find out it was just a dirty filter - well that was easy! The next time I took a shower it was ridiculously good pressure --- who knew (Jan of course!). This is the second time I hired him (first time was to replace/install a new hot water heater) and I will continue to hire him should I have future plumbing needs. I'd highly recommend him to anyone with plumbing issues."

"We had a horrible smell in our crawl space and thought we had dead mice down there and found an exterminator on Angi, but it turned out to be a sewer leak and there was sewer water down there. Drains Inc. came out right away and rodded out the sewer pipes. They were completely blocked by tree roots! Tim and his son took care of everything the same day and let us know there was black mold in our crawl space. They recommended a restoration company and they came out the same day. We were very impressed with how fast and professional they were! We’ll definitely call them for all of our plumbing needs in the future! Thanks so much!"

FAQs for sewer main install, replace or repair projects in Evanston, IL

When installing a sewer line, you should consider extra costs like tree removal, driveway repairs, or patio resurfacing. Hiring a professional plumber is essential, and you may need additional specialists if landscaping or heavy excavation is involved. Addressing these potential extras up front helps ensure accurate budgeting and prevents sudden cost overruns.

To calculate the length of sewer piping you need, measure the distance from your house to the main sewer line, adding the depth of the city main to this distance. Be sure to account for any obstacles like tree roots or utility lines that may require additional piping.

City sewer lines are installed at a lower elevation to prevent unwanted backflow and water damage. This lower positioning ensures enhanced performance and long-term safety, meeting all technical and safety standards.

With trenchless methods, a plumber inserts a smaller pipe within the existing plumbing, avoiding full excavation. It can be more cost-effective and less disruptive than traditional methods, but it's not suitable for all homes.

Yes, you must secure permission from your local water authority before connecting to a public sewer line. This approval ensures your connection meets all regulatory requirements.

Sewer lines are buried between 18 inches and 8 feet deep, with most systems placed between 18 and 30 inches. In colder regions, pipes are set deeper to remain below the frost line.
