We did, and made it a family adventure. That provided above expectation education and patience on his part. By example, we looked at every window using his specialized, current and certified infrared camera that measured digitally, by example, the difference in temperature between the top of the window (i.e. 65 degrees) and the lower part of the sash registering 35 degrees (leaks). We looked at every wall, on every floor and every door and ceiling and light fixtures and plugs-looking for any and all opportunities for leaks. Importantly, he finished with the 'blower test' that measured, mathematically, the equivalent size hole we have in our home if all the leaks were combined. While our home rated well, there was still material opportunity to improve and it was still surprising to understand first hand, how much heat escapes (read: heating the planet). Also importantly, Art shared many ideas-some simple others more involved regarding how to address these gaps. With in 24hours I went to Menards, bought the basic materials and addressed 75% of the gaps. While not 100%, it's a start. I recommend Art based on his years of experience, judgement, tools and expertise. Art immediately follow-up with a written report that was emailed and a hard-copy shortly there after. His company and services were a terrific value. I had my validation in advance based on Home Advisor tools and talking to Art and afterwards, based on the experience and quality of his findings. Now that we're educated and have the evidence, it's up to us to make it happen."

"The technician arrived on time and promptly began diagnosing the air conditioning system. When freon levels were checked, it showed that the levels were showing an over charge of the system. When some of the freon was bled off, the numbers went all over the place. The tech cleaned the air conditioner using our own hose, which was not put back in its proper place after he was through with it. We were then advised that we would have to "wait and see" if their repairs would have any effect on the ability of the air conditioner to keep the inside temperature below 79. The tech left and advised they would be back later in the day, or the next day. We paid the bill for the service call and the cleaning of the air conditioner, even though our hose was used. That was $152. After several hours, it became evident that the repairs were having no effect. We waited until 5pm for a phone call regarding a follow-up. At that point we called Purcell, and were told that a tech would be out to follow up. When he arrived, he looked at the system again and couldn't uncover any new issues. We then asked for a quote for a new air conditioner/furnace. At this point, the techs savvy car salesman like skills were quite evident. In addition, they don't participate in the current Ameren Act-on-energy rebates, which would add up to $800. To make up for this, the tech offered a $100 off his total price for the estimates, which ranged from $3400 to $17000. Over the next few days, we had 4 different companies come out to give us estimates on new air conditioners. One company wanted to inspect the current air conditioner we had, to ensure that nothing could be done to the current unit. Upon inspection, it was found that the compressor of the air conditioner was not functioning, which would not allow any tech to get accurate freon readings. This explains why Purcell was receiving errant readings. My question to Purcell is this: What exactly did we pay 152 for? The tech should have recognized that a part as big as a compressor was not running, but he missed it. So long story short, we paid $152 to Purcell for them to mis-diagnose an air conditioner and for them to use our hoses to spray water at the air conditioner unit, and then not put the equipment away. We chose this company due to their good ratings on angies list, but I feel this review should serve as a red flag to any of you who are considering Purcell."

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."
