"FIRST: Hope sent out a nice man named MATT to plumb for a basement half bath. He was very good. Before leaving, he gave us a coupon that said $25 off ANY PLUMBING SERVICE. SECOND: On a house we own one block south, water was coming up through the basement drain. We had already had the main drain cleaned a week or so before, so we didn't think that would solve the problem as there was still water coming up. Hope sent out Kevin. Very nice, polite, prompt, but he basically did what the first drain cleaner had done, and that didn't fix the problem. HE SAID he didn't have the small snake on the truck to do the lines from the kitchen and laundry room. Why would HOPE send out someone who didn't have the proper equipment on the truck? Nothing was fixed at this point. THIRD: Kevin called the office and they said they wouldn't take the coupon that was given to us by Matt."

"I live in Meridian Kessler in a home built in 1925.  Ever since we moved in in June 2015 we have had issues with the basement floor drain backing up when a lot of water is being used in the home.  In late December it finally became a larger issue and unbearable.  After several attempts from another company to declog the sewer line were unsuccessful, I called Mick English (who was recommended by a coworker) for a 2nd estimate.  English's offer was HALF of what another highly rated plumbing company on AL's offer was.  It was very apparent that Mick knew what he was doing when he came out to check out our problem and my wife and I felt very comfortable with doing business with him based on his professionalism and what seems to be an expertise/specialization for English Excavating.
We were very pleased that we did business with Mick and his team.  They were professional and efficient and did a good job of cleaning up after such a major job.  They had to dig a hole 10 feet deep through my entire front yard (20-30 feet from house to sidewalk) and replace old original sewer line with a new PVC pipe.  They did it all in a couple of days, and were quick to respond to my call and get started on the work.  I would definitely recommend English Excavating for anyone in need of a sewer line replacement."

"Andrew P, Dakota B, and Kyle M worked on adding a new drainage system to our basement. They were polite, friendly, and very professional. They did an absolutely AMAZING job!!! Job site was cleaned when they left and they even helped carry out some extra trash I had (not part of the job - but they were happy to help). I highly recommend this crew!!!"

"All went well. Very prompt. Jim Knox is very knowledgeable on this system. He did not try to sell me more. On the contrary he suggested this pressurized system as a
solution to try instead of replacing the tanks and finger system right away. The original septic system was installed in 1974 so it may need the fingers replaced at a future date. I would also suggest using the electrician Jim recommended as he has wired many of these pumps for Jim and is very knowledgeable on what is required to make this system run properly. Jim always answered the phone or called me back within ten minutes. I highly reccomend Knox Septic.

"We hired Brian to waterproof our basement last year but this year, we received a heavy rainstorm that created massive flooding around the area. Everything Brian waterproofed was bone dry but there was an exit door entry way that we never even considered waterproofing. The door held back most of the water but it managed to get in through the cracks of the door.

I contacted multiple companies that night and the next morning, but Brian was the only one who responded back first thing in the morning. He agreed to meet us at our house to assess the problem, and we appreciated that he arrived quickly. After evaluating multiple options, Brian told us that we needed a sump pump and drain tile installed to permanently fix this problem. He initially scheduled us for the next Monday, but after understanding our urgency, he bumped us up to the next day. The workers arrived when he said they would, and the work was completed the same day in the afternoon. Thank you to Brian and his company for being so accommodating, being there when we needed him, and completing the work promptly.

*~update~*
After some heavy rains, we noticed that we were still getting some seepage in our "waterproofed" basement. After contacting Brian (for our lifetime warranty or whatever), he said he would come out. He then proceeded to cancel/make an excuse the next 3-4 appointments. Then he just stopped responding to emails/calls. We're very disappointed because we really liked Brian. Now we have to open the walls to see where the seepage is coming in and call someone else to seal them."

"This problem had been addressed by several contractors in the past, and no one could come up with a solution. With the help of an engineering report I provided, Mr. Rishel knew immediately how to attack the problem, while leaving room for the unexpected and unknown. He used a step-by-step method, making adjustments as he learned what exactly was going on with the original drainage system, and keeping me informed along the way. He installed new drainage pipe where needed, replaced sections that were damaged, and set 2 catch basins to stave off future problems. Ed and his crew were so easy to work with, that the trauma of having my yard/flower beds dug up and trampled by the heavy machinery was minimal. He even called in a landscaper with whom he had worked previously, and together they dug up and replanted existing shrubs and flowers - everything survived! He also was able to call in a tree service to remove 2 large trees that were in the way of the new drainage pipe. Mr. Rishel did his very best to minimize all damage and expense, such as digging under my front walk to lay new drainage pipe instead of just ripping the concrete out. He is a true gem - a man of integrity and honesty - and I would recommend him to anyone in need of his services."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Fortville, IN

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
