However, in the end, the entire problem was resolved by just replacing a couple of gaskets. "I have a crawl space, no one's favorite place to go, particularly in the dead of winter. The plumber arrived and didn't blink when I told him where the pump was located. He crawled in, replaced it and came back out to tell me he had to fashion a new drain pipe. He did that and back into the crawl space he went. The whole job, start to finish, was about 20 minutes. He showed me the old pump and it was pretty beat up looking. I haven't heard a sound out of the new one, which is a definite improvement. When it starts raining, we'll see how it works."
