"Butch called back right away. Came out in a timely fashion. Got one unit working. Then he said the main board was malfunctioning on the downstairs unit and would have to be replaced. It would cost 1200 or 1300. But if we spent a little extra on a service contract he would wave the trip fee and it would be 1100 something. Okay. We did that. It was too late for him to get the board that day so he came out the next day to install the board. But the unit still didn't come on. He said the thermostat was bad and it would we 300 to 500 to replace the thermostat depending on what we wanted. My husband told him we could do that ourselves. Just by pass it and get the unit working. Then he came down and said that the blower motor was out and it would be 1800 to replace the blower motor or 2400 to just replace the whole unit and then we'd be under warranty again. I told them I wanted a second opinion before we did that. I called Ed & Sons they came out, confirmed that we did need a new thermostat. And said they could rebuild the blower motor for around 100$. I ordered two new thermostats for 300 for both of them and my husband installed the thermostats. The work they did was fine. But I felt like they were more of the school of let's just replace parts until it works or we can sell them a new unit. Rather than what can we fix."

Mario the plumber, was very knowledgeable in regards to what the new water heater standards are and what would best work in the space available. After agreeing on the replacement model and price, he picked up the unit from storage and within 2 hours had replaced the unit. During the install he explained in detail the features of the new unit and why new connections (replaced copper with flex piping) would prevent electrolysis due to steel pipes coming out of the heater and copper pipes installed in the home. "Mr. Ferrell first connected his computer to my computer via internet and worked for quite a few hours trying to determine what exactly was wrong. The next day he continued working from his computer for several hours. He determined he would have to have my desktop tower to complete the repair. He and my son met in Huntsville to exchange the tower. He then cleaned up a lot of what was wrong and reloaded Windows 10. He deleted the D: drive which had way too much memory allotted to it. The tower was returned and I plugged it all back together and it is working better than it did when I first purchased it. "Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."
