"My questions were answered and the job was completed in a timely manner. The work was solid. I also had a question about gas pipes in the basement and they went down and looked and answered it. This is the second time I have used them."

"In 2013 we started investigating the replacement of our water heater. It was 20 years old but it was not having problems (yet). We wanted to try to avoid having a hot water problem in the future so we started the replacement investigation process. I called several contractors and got competitive bids but decided to put it off until 2014. Late this winter (20140 ) I noticed water on top of the water heater with some dripping down the side so we knew our time with this water heater was about up. I called John at Northern Plumbing again. He remembered our conversation the previous year. He was near us, very straight forward, and he made me comfortable with his experience level and confidence in phone conversations. He answered all my questions and he quoted the same price again for removal an replacement. We agreed on a date to do the job. Without prompting John promised that we would have hot water from the new hot water heater on the replacement date. This was expected but reassuring to hear. Chuck was the plumber assigned to the job, He came out to inspect the area in the basement where the work needed to be done. He addressed my questions and issues regarding access and removal of the old water heater. Chuck determined the job would require a new water shut off valve, an upgraded gas valve to meet building code, and required disconnecting existing furnace gas line to allow for removal of the existing heater. He quoted an additional $150 for these items. Chuck needed to leave to get the new water heater from the supplier since my unit had to be used for a previous job. Chuck returned shortly and started to work. He removed his boots on many trips in and out and protected the carpets with tarps when removing the old water heater. The work went well and the workmanship was excellent. He got the job done start to finish in about 4 hours. As John promised we had hot water again that evening. The new water heater continues to work great. I would recommend Northern Plumbing in the future for similar work. I received the City Inspection paper work yesterday so all I have to do is schedule the city to come out and inspect the work and this job will be finished. Overall it was great working with these guys!!!

"I had an old water heater (was in the house when I moved in about 20 years ago) and it started to leak. After shutting off the water to the water heater, I did a little Angie's List research to find a company to do the replacement. I called a couple and decided to use Randy Lane, based on cost and my interaction with them, which I felt was cordial and helpful, and made an appointment.
The service person arrived on time on the day of the appointment and went to work. He disconnected the old heater and hauled it out. The new heater was brought in and he did the needed plumbing work to connect the water and also made the natural gas connections. He fired up the unit and briefed me on the new unit - how to turn-off the water and gas, if needed, temperature, etc.
The area was left in the same condition as when he arrived.

I bought the Big Deal w/ this company and am delighted that I did. Vincent was incredible: he was professional, accommodating, friendly, considerate, and thorough. I had one sink and the bathtub were completely clogged, as well as a dripping faucet. I had tried a few different things and nothing had worked. Unfortunately, I have a lot of pipes that are original from when the house was built: 1950, and you can even see how corroded they are. Therefore, these problems did not come w/ an easy fix: one pipe was so corroded that Vincent couldn't even get the snake through. He had to cut that pipe out and replace it. He did have to come back to finish and he totally worked around my schedule, which I greatly appreciated. He also was very considerate when it came to the fact that I have parrots & many types of fumes can kill them: he went outside with the pipes when he had to glue them, and when using any other supplies that have fumes, he always opened the back door for ventilation.

I can't say enough about how highly I think of Vincent, and obviously I will now use him as my regular plumber when need be. (I'll need to start replacing the other very corroded pipes whenever I can.) I even had to leave for awhile, and I totally trusted him to be here alone. And, to top it all off, because using the snake, and then having to cut the pipe resulted in a fair bit of mess in that bathroom, he asked if I had a cleaner that could be used safely w/ parrots, so I gave him some. He was going to wipe off the mess on the walls. However, he went much beyond that and I can't remember when that bathroom looked so good: thank you Vincent! (I didn't discover all that he'd done until I went down to do laundry, and was very pleasantly surprised.)

Obviously I recommend him with no reservations, and will for sure be using him again.(I have tried a few different plumbers and have not been overly impressed until now, with Vincent.)

"After determining that there was no gas pressure at the heater inlet, Will, of Aire-Serv of Eden Prairie traced all of the possible paths in the gas piping and discovered that the heater was serviced by an exterior gas pipe which had a shutoff valve that had become closed over the summer. I strongly suspect that my dog may have been the culprit, as the shutoff was near the ground and configured so that a paw could easily close the valve. This was not as easy to diagnose as one might expect due to multiple branches in the gas piping in difficult to access places. Will was very patient as he ruled out one after another possible problem until finding the closed shutoff valve.

FAQs for gas piping projects in Howard Lake, MN

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
