"I highly recommend Apex-based "A. Maynor Heating & A/C", who replaced my furnace and the entire central air conditioning system (outside condenser unit, inside evaporator coil, and new refrigerant lines) on 7-17-2020 at my Cary house. I also had them install the new outside condenser unit on the opposite side of the house (where it's in the shade, able to operate more effectively) compared to where the original condenser was (in the direct sun). All of their personnel were very competent, polite, prompt, and a pleasure to interact with, from Christy & Tammy in the office, to Carlos & Louis who performed the initial inspection & diagnosis of the original system that had failed, to Norm who performed the house "load calculation", recommended the appropriate new system, and who (since he's a licensed electrician) modified the wiring at the electrical panel as needed for the new condenser location, to Ramon & Christian who performed the new installation, and to Robert who performed the post-installation check and installed a new condensate pump."

Despite the cost of the part, they recommended that we keep our machine because, in their experience, Maytags of that vintage were far superior in reliability than a replacement would be. "I set up an appointment for a quote from Cape Fear based on a recommendation from a neighbor, and Justin came on time (he actually called and asked if it would be OK if he came early). He was easy to work with, seemed very knowledgeable, and very thorough as he looked at my current setup and discussed the various options for replacement. I liked some of the recommendations he made as far as adjusting some of the duct routing to ease air flow. I decided to have him quote a 2-ton Trane XL16c packaged AC / Gas Furnace unit and XL16c hybrid (AC and gas furnace / heat pump), which was brand new at the time - it wasn't even in their system yet. When I was provided with a quote, the paper listed the 3-ton unit since the 2-ton unit was so new, but Justin assured me that the price was for the 2-ton unit. I received another quote for the same unit from a different company, and the price was significantly lower. So, I went back to Justin and asked him to double check the price. He did confirm that the price listed on my quote was for a 3-ton unit and provided a new number for the 2-ton unit, but I was left with a bad feeling over what would have happened if I hadn't received a competitive quote and questioned them. Also, the other company I dealt with talked with the Trane rep, and stated while the XL16C gas pack was available in a 2-ton unit, the hybrid unit (with gas furnace and heat pump) was not available in a 2-ton unit. This quote process was at the end of December, and they offered an extra $500 off if we would install before the end of the year. Would they have taken the money for a 3-ton unit and only delivered a 2-ton unit, or would they have realized the error when I went to pay and said 'we quoted you the wrong price'? If I ordered the hybrid unit and paid for a 2-ton unit, what would have been delivered? These could have been honest mistakes or not - I really have no way of knowing. In the end, I didn't feel comfortable with the way the quote process went, so I decided to go with another vendor."

"Removed old hot water tank and replaced it with a tankless hot water heater. Work was done in crawl space with less than six feet height available in work area. All done in a few hours last September. It's now the following August (11 months or so later). Everything seems to be working okay. Workmen were polite, professional, timely, focused on the job, carried away all the old parts and cleaned up well---we were quite pleased with the whole process."

What they don't know is I know enough about these systems to know the cost of parts and how the system works. So when the "technician" shows up and says they don't know which of the 5 parts was a problem, I'm skeptical. I just don't want to fix everything myself anymore. Comfort Monster is different. The difference is their technicians do not work on commission. Repairman from other companies get paid when the customer has to buy a new HVAC system, giving no incentive to fix anything. Comfort Monster technicians take pride in solving the puzzle of why the machine isn't working. I have two systems and when they inevitably have a problem, I'm calling these guys. Dude even gave my little girls Comfort Monster plush toys and they carry them everywhere!"

I got several estimates and the 6&Fix salesman was the only one that didn't either use pressure tactics, talk down other companies, assume we were ignorant of what we were purchasing, give a ridiculous price, or fail to understand our needs. The installers showed up as scheduled and installed the new system quicker than expected, cleaned up, loaded the old unit and were gone. So far, so good."
