Small jobs welcome

"It was my first kitchen remodeling project, so I had no idea what to expect. I had no idea that many companies would turn down my project because my budget was too low or they had a long wait list. It was extremely disappointing. But eventually, I was able to find a few companies that accepted my budget, and Corey was the only one who arrived on time and gave me the most affordable estimate. He accommodated my hectic schedule by scheduling his crew to work on my project. He heard my complaint, promised to fix it, and followed through. He also fixed my coach light at no additional cost. I adore my new kitchen, and I recommend him because of his honest work ethic."

"My husband and I are senior citizens. We hired Priority plumbing with owner Mike Cambio for a bathroom renovation. He agreed to install shower pan & walls, install vanity, install toilet and install heating element. He talked us into additional plumbing work for $6000 and replaced our furnace and hot water tank for overheating additional $12000. Lots of money. He had problems with install of furnace, he returned several times, the heat was shutting down. Mike was becoming frustrated and he attitude changed. Several weeks later we caller him back to finish bathroom. He insisted that we needed to install our own vanity or he will charge us extra. He also did not like installing the shower walls, threatened angrily that it would cost extra. Mike became verbally abusive with me on phone a behavior also witnessed towards his employees. After he and his 3 workers left there was a gouge in vanity door which he became very angry again and blamed me for damage. Not the person you want to hire"

"I had them do several jobs in late 2018: basement sink faucet replacement, ball valve install onto main water line and outdoor faucet replacement - got a free estimate and got 3 of the 4 things done that I could afford. Good friendly and timely - their prices were inline with the other 3 estimates I got and went with them bc of their reviews and reputation. Currently we had a leak. They came next day to repair the tub faucet. It needed a rebuild. Job was done correctly and I agreed to the cost on the phone, and did mention my concern about the price being high, $400. That included the diagnostic fee and "come to the house" fee. I called with a follow up to see get the breakdown and Pat let me know that they have a flat fee structure and, from my understanding, is they contract out work and have $4000 a month in advertising. I thought they were a small family business, apparently not if advertising is that. I try to be fair in my reviews and if I was a jerk I'd give an F. but they aren't an F. their service is an A but their pricing, to me, is a C- and I think people deserve to know about the flat pricing, and they say plumbers are doing now. Basically it's a like a car dealership's auto repair. You have a job and they have a universal flat price linked to that, whether it takes 1 hour or 5. Clearly if it's less time, it benefits them, of more time then it benefits the consumer - so there's risk there on either side but if you agree to a price it's a done deal. However, the skew to the house comes from things like my faucet rebuild. It's a 30-60 min job and the part is about $100. For them to come to the house is $35 plus $100 diagnostic fee = $135 just to come inside and let me know the problem, which wasn't a complicated issue. Its a faucet. I was called and told the job is $400 all in. So here's the skew - I knew it was high but I have to put out $135 and get someone else do do the job under $265 to save $10 ? (I estimate the job being $100 part plus 1 hour labor which is on the high end $100 so about $200ish. give or take - I thought it'd be $250) So you're trapped and left feeling screwed over, because, well.. you are. When I relayed this to Pat and he explained their costs - it basically boils down to these small overpriced jobs crutch flat rated jobs that take more time then they think will. I don't believe in that system which is why I go to a family mechanic and get a breakdown of my services, parts and labour, so I know what I'm paying for and it's full disclosure. I will not be using them again, however this does NOT reflect their service or abilities or professionalism. They are all those and highly competent, as previously stated. I dont agree with the pricing methods, especially on a $200 job being $400. That is exploiting and it makes me very sour about a company especially when you're over a barrel and already into it for the $135 up front fee. Ok, well that's my take... may your lives be leak free!"

"I called 2 times prior to today’s visit and they came the next day. Each day there were 2 men on the job. I clearly had/have a Freon leak and it was explained to me I would have to have my walls opened in order to find the line set. Today’s visit, I clearly explained over the phone the job that needed to be done. They 2 prior visits they could not find the leak in the normal places. I was advised it was $250/hour. I agreed. I just wanted my leak fixed. ONE guy shows up, different than the other 4 that had showed up. Says it’s too hard to find the leak. Fills my freon back up and says call us in the spring and we can replace your air handler."

"I needed to plumb a new whole house generator with natural gas, so why not plan on converting everything to natural gas as the appliance needs replacing (propane hot water and stove) right????? I called TOM'S PLUMBING after doing a search on ANGIE'S LIST for a professional. I figured I would get 5 quotes, narrow it down to 3 and then really compare the 3 and decide on one. I did contact 5 professionals and all came to the house and reviewed the job. So, I decided on TOM's PLUMBING after reviewing the 3 and even with a couple of quick revisions to the job, we were able to schedule it in for the following week. This one point was very important to me as we were going to be leaving for vacation, and if I could get this project done, one less thing for me to think about. Tom and his associate Chris showed up right on time on the scheduled day, which was a hot one. They went right to work regardless of the heat, and completed on time. One way I judge a service is whether or not i would hire them again. In regards to TOM's PLUMBING, yes, I would CERTAINLY hire them again, and in fact, I'm already contemplating a couple of new projects. In summary, TOM's PLUMBING is as professional as they come and yet, small enough to be able to work with a home owner for any and all revisions, I mean, we all know things come up. Tom was always available for any questions or concerns and I knew I was in good hands. so not only would I hire them again, I would recommend TOM's PLUMBING to family and friends, which is really what we all care about!!!"

FAQs for gas piping projects in North Kingstown, RI

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
