"My pool couldnt even be called a pool at the time an estimate was provided. The previous owner of my home atempted to turn a liner pool into a concrete pool and use kitchen tiles along the wall. Needless to say the base of the pool cracked, broke and I could literally see dirt. The service manager at Subcomm pools communicated their concerns and the quoted price along with their plan of action. They communicated consistently and always kept me abreast of what was going on. They are very courteous and will go the extra mile to ensure I was satisfied. They took the time to answer any questions that I had. They also directed me to reading material that assisted with the maintenance of my pool. Very courteous staff and hard working. They were in the heat of the sun and still kept driving on. I would bring them a pitcher of water and ice everyday and they were very grateful."

"I had used BJ Pool and Spa several years ago so I thought I would try them again. When I called they gave me a date when they could get a tech out to my house that was convenient to my schedule, he arrived on time, fixed the problem and ensured that everything was in good working order before he left. I could not have asked for better service. I would describe them as professional, friendly, reliable and reasonably priced."

"We initally purchased an Angies List cupon ($99 for $200 of service) but ended up asking to have a new electrical pannel installed.  Very profssional and curtious service. They installed and put in the electrical pannel with fuses and meter outside.  After 2 days the a/c fuse kept blowing out.  The A/C repairman said it was because we had the wrong amp fuse. We called and Walls came out and put in the correct amp fuse. Two weeks later the county inspector came out and and would not approve the installation sayig that  some of the fuses were old.  We called and they came out immediatly and fixed the problem (put in new fuses).  Question/Issue is that if they would have done the job correctly the first time they would not have to come out those two times and why did they not install new fuses??  They were responsive and apologetic for the mistake(s).

"I have a fish pond in the backyard with a water fall and it was in desperate need of repair. It was not done properly and had a lot of erosion so I had them redo it. They did a really nice job. I really liked them. They were there when they said they would be there. I don't know about the price, my husband does. I feel like I can call them up if there's a problem. They are really attentive. I got two different estimates and they came in at roughly the same price. I've been happy with them. It's a woman owned and it was kind of neat as far as I was concerned. I grew up in that Beltsville area so it was nice to have somebody from the neighborhood and a local girl do a good job for me. Her recommendations were very good. They ran into more trouble than they thought they were, but they dealt with it. They didn't expect to find this concrete in the soil. I don't know if it got there from the guy who did the pond work a while ago or it was in the soil from way back even before we moved here. It was like a big surprise and not a pleasant one because it was a lot more work to do. They were excellent. I only had two different prices and they were both very similar. I liked these folks better. They were very responsive and very professional. I would use them again in the future. I just called them a little while ago about doing a pond clean up in the spring. I'm going to watch how they do it and try to do it myself next year. I trust them and believe that they don't make me pay for something that I don't need. They are also good at giving advices. I can just call them and get advice. I had my heater go out in the middle of the winter and that I had fish in there so I didn't want them to die and I got some advice. They may have all died, but I got some advice about that."

"Our pool was leaking badly and after a search on Angie's list Jaeson and his crew were able to fit is in for a leak test during the busy pre-memorial day season. They found that the leak was in the return pipes and Jaeson advised the job might be complicated, but he could come the following weekend to get it done, we were able to negotiate the price and agreed on $6250. We also needed the job to be done quickly as we are preparing the house to sell. He and his crew came that Saturday and got it done that day. They pulled the concrete up by the returns and found two were leaking. After finding the two broken pipes, they then re m-pressure tested the rest of the pipes to be sure there were no other issues. They then fixed the broken pipes, filled In the hole and repoured the necessary concrete. Jaeson and his crew were great, they kepped me informed and got the majority of the job done that day. Jason also came back the following Tuesday to reseal the backer rod and coping stone after the new concrete was dry completing the project. If we were staying we would switch to JA contracting for our other pool care needs."

FAQs for swimming pool heaters repair or service projects in Philomont, VA

Replacing a pool heater costs $3,000 on average. Final pricing depends on the type of heater (gas, electric, or solar) and your pool's size. Factor for swimming pool repair costs, at an average of $3,800. When you start experiencing issues with your pool heater, other equipment and structural failures often follow. Installation is often the least expensive for electric and gas heaters. Heat pumps and solar panels often cost several thousand dollars more to install.

A pool heater’s lifespan is determined by its type and proper upkeep. Solar heaters last 20 to 25 years, electric heat pumps perform for five to 10 years, and gas heaters remain effective for 5 years. Regular pool maintenance safeguards performance and prevents premature failure. Ensuring that you adhere to a strict annual service schedule protects your investment and maintains consistent heating efficiency.

Depending on the size of your pool, location, climate, and current energy prices, you’ll spend up to $20 per hour to heat a pool using propane, $9 per hour using natural gas, and $1 to $2 per hour for a heat pump. Northern climates require more energy and can double the price. Standard estimates allow homeowners to easily estimate the cost of heating a pool for a month. Propane heaters, for example, are known to burn around 1 gallon per hour per 100,000 BTUs.

An electric or gas heat pump will take eight to 14 hours to heat a pool, while a solar heat pump takes 24 to 72 hours. Multiply the number of gallons by 8.34 to get your total pounds of water. Divide this figure by your heater's BTU rating to determine how many hours it takes to raise the water temperature by 1 degree Fahrenheit.

If your pool heater is not raising the water temperature to the desired level, the issue is caused by cold ambient conditions rather than a malfunction. The best solution is to install a solar cover that locks in heat and boosts efficiency. A solar cover costing $120 to $250 enhances heat retention, ensuring your heater performs at its peak. Additionally, verify that all settings—such as thermostat calibration and water circulation—are properly adjusted to support optimal heating.

Regular annual maintenance is crucial to keep your pool heater running efficiently and to avoid high repair costs. Investing $100 to $200 in yearly maintenance prevents issues such as excessive noise, surging energy bills, and malfunctioning controls. This proactive care not only prolongs your heater’s lifespan but also ensures reliable performance throughout the season. Always refer to your warranty guidelines to follow the required maintenance procedures.
