"Upon signing up for the deal, Michael from Whirlpools promptly sent an email with his number. We called and scheduled a date 2 weeks from the call. Mike told us that the pool water level needed to be about an inch below the tile level. The two weeks allowed enough time for the water to evaporate down to the proper level.
At the agreed-on day, a young man from Whirlpools arrived about an hour late because they had needed to restock some supplies for the job. He said he needed three separate power outlets for his three compressors. He also needed to know where the home's sewage line was because waste water from the cleaning process goes directly in there.
He began by measuring the exact circumference of the pool. That's because the fine print in Angie's deal stated the maximum number of feet included in the deal. Turns out our pool, though by no means large, had about twice as many feet, and so the young mann said it was going to be $188 extra. We were not thrilled by that, but it was still a good deal and we gave the go-ahead.
The cleaning itself is done with a device similar to a high pressure steam washer, but it uses tiny beads instead of water. The cleaning took about five hours. The compressors are loud, so if noise is an issue, plan to catch a movie or go shopping while the pool is being cleaned. And make sure no plants or other fragile stuff is in the way of all the hoses. The young man did a thorough job and finished by applying a coating to the tile that will keep calcium and grime from accumulating again for at least a year.
Bottom line: Owner Michael was great to deal with, the young man who did the job was courteous and competent, and the pool tile looks like new! The terms of the deal perhaps should have been made clearer, so that there won't be surprises if the pool is larger. Even so, the service was definitely worth it, and actually lower than what we'd been quoted elsewhere. We recommend Whirlpools.

Okay, this was Salvador's 4th job for us, but pretty soon I'll stop counting because I will have this man & his crew back time-and-time again! He is unbelievably efficient, as well as knowledgeable, fair in pricing, responsive, talented and never requires supervision! What more can I say? He & his crew are exceptional, in addition to being oh so personable!

Salvador loaded up all the leaves, branches & twigs, & hauled them away. He even raked & swept debris leftovers. The yard was meticulously groomed when they were finished.

Again, this extremely hard-working man and assistant did not disappoint me. By the way, I either text or call Salvador & always receive a call back the same day or at the latest by the following morning. He's never left me wondering if he was interested in the job at hand. I highly recommend him.

"worked with Eli Plavnik at Green NRG.  All aspects of the service I received from them were excellent. Eli handled the administration and installation of our system as if it was his own home. He fulfilled all he promised and then some. The system works very well. The installation is pleasing to the eye. This includes the solar panels and all related electrical work and meters. His staff was clean, courteous and consciousness. His follow-up and follow-through was great. I interviewed 5 solar companies before going with Green NRG. Green NRG has a no nonsense approach. There were no hidden surprises and the pricing was the best all around. I felt that the bigger companies were about making as many sales as possible. My mid sized project seemed extremely important to Eli and NRG. I felt like this project was of the utmost importance to him and them. I highly recommend them.

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

FAQs for swimming pool heaters repair or service projects in Sacramento, CA

Replacing a pool heater costs $3,000 on average. Final pricing depends on the type of heater (gas, electric, or solar) and your pool's size. Factor for swimming pool repair costs, at an average of $3,800. When you start experiencing issues with your pool heater, other equipment and structural failures often follow. Installation is often the least expensive for electric and gas heaters. Heat pumps and solar panels often cost several thousand dollars more to install.

A pool heater’s lifespan is determined by its type and proper upkeep. Solar heaters last 20 to 25 years, electric heat pumps perform for five to 10 years, and gas heaters remain effective for 5 years. Regular pool maintenance safeguards performance and prevents premature failure. Ensuring that you adhere to a strict annual service schedule protects your investment and maintains consistent heating efficiency.

Depending on the size of your pool, location, climate, and current energy prices, you’ll spend up to $20 per hour to heat a pool using propane, $9 per hour using natural gas, and $1 to $2 per hour for a heat pump. Northern climates require more energy and can double the price. Standard estimates allow homeowners to easily estimate the cost of heating a pool for a month. Propane heaters, for example, are known to burn around 1 gallon per hour per 100,000 BTUs.

An electric or gas heat pump will take eight to 14 hours to heat a pool, while a solar heat pump takes 24 to 72 hours. Multiply the number of gallons by 8.34 to get your total pounds of water. Divide this figure by your heater's BTU rating to determine how many hours it takes to raise the water temperature by 1 degree Fahrenheit.

If your pool heater is not raising the water temperature to the desired level, the issue is caused by cold ambient conditions rather than a malfunction. The best solution is to install a solar cover that locks in heat and boosts efficiency. A solar cover costing $120 to $250 enhances heat retention, ensuring your heater performs at its peak. Additionally, verify that all settings—such as thermostat calibration and water circulation—are properly adjusted to support optimal heating.

Regular annual maintenance is crucial to keep your pool heater running efficiently and to avoid high repair costs. Investing $100 to $200 in yearly maintenance prevents issues such as excessive noise, surging energy bills, and malfunctioning controls. This proactive care not only prolongs your heater’s lifespan but also ensures reliable performance throughout the season. Always refer to your warranty guidelines to follow the required maintenance procedures.
