"I did a full HVAC replacement (2 furnaces, 2 AC units) with Shavitz and have nothing but good things to say. First, the quote process with Ken was both informative and honest. The installation team led by Mirek was great. They were efficient, clean and walked me through everything. All piping and ductwork was replaced in the utility closets and at the AC units and all was properly insulated. Their work is clean and clearly shows they know what they are doing. It was a two-day install and Ken made sure to stop by on day 1 to ensure that everything was completed as we discussed. The furnaces are even quieter than expected! It’s too cold to run the AC units and they will need a return visit to get that system activated but so far so good. I would highly recommend this team to anyone."

"I don't know how other HVAC companies compete against TDH. Put in a top brand (Trane) 2 stage for the price others were quoting me for a mid brand one stage. The Installer (Mark Keenan) found a world of hurt when they pulled the old unit out and crafted a great fit on the spot with fixed space limitations (with a trip to the Home Depot). Instead of 5 hours it took 7 to finish the job, did not even ask if he could charge me more - which I would have understood."

"Thought my fan motor needed to be replaced for my rental property. Friend who owns building nearby recommended Air Solution. I'm glad I did because they were honest unlike many other contractors I've dealt with. They arrived in less than an hr. Instead of just telling me that I was right and needed to spend big money on a motor the tech Mike found it was just a bad capacitor. I was very happy with them and would recommend them to others."

"Adrian came put promptly on time and fixed the problem - it was a broken coupler (as we suspected). But a new issue arose: when testing the repair, he noticed a different sound that could suggest a prohibitive transmission repair in the near future. Of course there was no way for him to have known since the machine wasn't operating before he fixed the coupler. Still, he'd done his job faithfully and we paid him and he went on his way. That afternoon Nick, the owner, sent a thank you email and receipt, and we took the opportunity to let him know about our unfortunate result. He immediately called and set up a time the next day to listen and see for himself, at no charge. We were pleasantly shocked! They both came out again, silenced the noise instantly with lubrication to the clutch, and thankfully it seems that if we need a future fix at all, it will be to the clutch, a moderate repair, and still well worth it for this valuable machine. Both Adrian and Nick explained everything clearly, what they were doing, why, and what our options were, including comparing repair to replacement. (They do recommend one brand of machine for quality, but the capacity is smaller than our current appliance, and we do plenty of laundry). Anyway, we highly recommend Park Ridge Appliance Service on all counts. Not only don't they make them like they used to, it's rare to find a service company like this anymore. Thank you Nick, and much continued success."

"I'd not used Veteran Cleaning Services before and wanted to get some answers about the dryer vent cleaning they offered.  My dryer is on the third floor and the vent terminates on the 5th floor.  I wanted to know if they would service a dryer that was not on the ground floor.  I emailed them via the Angie's List website.  They did not respond.  I emailed again a few days later and still no response.  Then I tried calling their office and left a message.  No response.  I called the office again and also their mobile number.  A few days later, we were able to connect.
They answered my questions about cleaning the dryer vent in my townhouse so I purchased a Big Deal for $100.  We agreed to a date and time.  Some days later I had to reschedule.  I called and the service was changed to a new date and time.
The day of service, Veteran Cleaning Services were a no show.  I contacted them and was told they had forgotten to note the new service date on their schedule due to problems with their phone system.   We scheduled for another day and they came as promised.
Service was carried out promptly with no issues.  The service tech suggested changing the cap on the vent because lint was being trapped by the cap and then falling back down the vent pipe.  He suggested removing the cap and replacing it with an elbow so lint can fly out the vent.  Other companies had never suggested doing that and I was pleasantly surprised by the suggestion as he was correct that the cap on the vent was not appropriate.
I was promised a receipt via email, which I have not received.  After the tech left, I found the dryer and washer were dirty with lint particulates and the laundry room floor had pieces of lint.  There were also a few pieces of lint on the stairs between the third and fifth floors.  Some lint is bound to escape notice but more of it should have been cleaned up.
Overall I was pleased with their service and would use them again.  I suggest their company work on being more responsive when customers call or email, and also, they should try to clean up as much lint as possible before leaving a customer's home.

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Skokie, IL

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
