"story continued from above
On Friday 11/30/2012 I had my daughter-in-law meet the service man for the completion of the repair to my furnace. He arrived on time. He put on the new part and everything worked fine. I was not charged an additional service fee for the second day.
The workman was very professional and very continuous, He explained everything as he did it and why. I felt he did a good job. My only regret is that I did not check around more. My concern was my furnace was out and  very cold weather was coming so I just called Great Lakes Heating thinking they were local (from Plymouth) but found out the phone number is local but the office is South Bend. The total repair cost was $743 on a furnace that is approximately 15 years old.  After talking with my son, he told me he had replaced the igniter control on his furnace for a little over $100 for the part which he put on himself.

"Technician stated hot water heater needed to be total replaced due to normal wear and tear. Hot water heater is initially the hot water heater installed in 1999 when home was built. Choice Home Warranty denied the claim after several years of being a loyal customer, making payments on- time every month. What is the use of having this warranty for times as this and when you need them, they denied the claim? Although the service was good, response time adequate, providing the services needed when your appliance break down and being denied repairs was disappointing and devastating, especially when coronavirus is rampant and you really need your hot water to wash clothes, dishes, bath, shower, and remain sanitary. I am so heart broken because I live on a fixed income and am disable, and can’t afford to purchase a hot water heater at this time. They determined that the water heater was not operating properly as a result of a lack of effective maintenance of the unit. What a crock!"

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

FAQs for water heater repair or service projects in Syracuse, IN

Warning signs include fluctuating water temperatures, a pilot light that repeatedly goes out, unusual noises from the tank, or complete heating failure. You might also detect a rotten egg smell, indicating a potential gas leak, or notice water that never reaches the proper temperature. If your water heater is over eight years old and displaying these symptoms, the gas valve is a likely culprit. Professional inspection is recommended, especially if gas odors are present.

Water heater gas valves are not universally interchangeable. Each valve must match your specific water heater's make, model, and specifications. Important compatibility factors include gas type (natural gas vs. propane), BTU rating, connection types, and physical dimensions. Using an incorrect valve can result in poor performance, premature failure, or dangerous gas leaks. Always consult your water heater's documentation or a professional plumber to identify the appropriate replacement valve for your unit.
