Small jobs welcome

"Ryan was very prompt in calling and establishing an appointment time. Day of install, everything was fantastic. On-time, very courtious, and cleaned up after. My dryer vent looks like it has always been there."

"These guys did a great job with a complete system overhaul. Even with my less than ideal situations they were completely professional and didn’t respond in a begrudgingly way to my requests. Came in with the best estimate with better equipment than a couple other companies I’d contacted about this job. Very reasonable negotiating within my budget. Jeff was my pointman on the job but his two main guys during this install (I’m terrible with names) were very professional and courteous and patient with me and my family. Jeff even got me prioritized with a vent cleaning company to come out during the install to clean my vents. Thoroughly impressed."

"I had them install on my other house 11 years ago.. went with them again.. the people are what’s amazing.. Mathew, Bob, Jim.. Jennifer.. their customer service is beyond fantastic.. they helped us move 2 heavy plants.. that needed to be moved to put in new air conditioner.. in this day and age of automation, and messaging, they are a reminder that old fashion kindness and customer service is key to good business.. I highly recommend them.. and they configure what your house needs.. size , budget and your needs.. Mathew took 3 hrs.. of interview and measurements before offering 5 different packages of heating/cooling needs.. amazing company!!!"

"They found the problem and ordered the new part. Only problem was after they installed the new valve I couldn't get the heat to turn off so I had to switch the breaker to get the furnace to turn off. When they came back to check the problem, the tech who replaced the bad part forgot to remove the device that prevents the furnace from talking to the thermostat. Now my furnace and thermostat talk to each other."

"We were very pleased with the quick response, detailed information, professional and courteous staff at all levels. Our old furnace died in November on a Friday. Other businesses couldn't get anyone out to repair and replace it for 2-3 weeks. Ranger had it replaced on Monday for us. This week our electronic air filter quit working. Again we had a quick response with a simple fix at no charge. All of our questions were answered fully and information given about the latest models but with no pressure to buy. We will absolutely use Ranger again and refer our friends and family to them."

"Seatown did mostly a good job I suppose installing a new gas burning high efficiency furnace. When the salesperson was providing their initial consultation, they pointed out that our existing thermostat would have to be replaced and the 3-wire thermostat wire would need to be upgraded to 8-wire for the high efficiency furnace. They were going to charge me some exorbitant fee to pull the new wire through 5 feet of wall. When I questioned it, they knocked it down to $500. I told them I'd buy new wire and pull it through myself before they showed up. Needless to say I was pleased to find out that the technician only used 3 of the wires anyway so that attempted overcharge would have been for nothing? Also the technician very cleverly did NOT place the new thermostat on the wall such that it covered up the old hole in the wall so I had to move it after they left. I can't say I was too happy with the furnace exhaust pipe. First, they placed the exhaust pipe above our gas meter but the inspector didn't flag it so I guess there's no issue. Also they used non-paintable caulk to seal the exhaust pipe so that painting it to blend in with the siding was a bit of a problem. They also didn't provide any sort of screen for the exhaust pipe to keep animals from crawling in it. When I questioned that they said that the carbon monoxide would kill them. So their solution is to have a dead animal in our furnace exhaust? Not to mention that doesn't really work in the summer when the furnace isn't running. Other than those rookie mistakes I noticed, I'm sure everything else was done properly?"

"Everything from the information about the furnace and heat pump to installation was done in a professional manner. The installers were prompt and courteous. Before they left they explained how take care of the filters and the thermostat. It was not the cheapest bid but I have been dealing with this company for many years and felt comfortable going with them. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a new furnace or heat pump."

"The company had called within 20 seconds after pressing on Angie's List for the service....WOW The wife was the one who was present at time of service but she seemed satisfied by the service. The tech arrived within the designated window of time. The tech's picture was emailed to us beforehand so as to know it was him for security purposes. Our 1 yr old furnace apparently did not have a surge protector when it was newly installed. He installed it, at our agreement, and continued with the service. I did get a call later from a competitor that was about $50 cheaper but I still kept the original appt I made since we had just set up the appt. I know I didn't have to but that is on me...you don't have to pick the first one to call. I believe that I would recommend them again but will wait for other calls first."

FAQs for ducts & vents installation and replacement projects in Tacoma, WA

Return air vents aren't required in every room, but proper placement is essential for system efficiency. According to industry standards, you'll need one return vent for every 100 to 150 square feet of living space. Ideally, each room would have its own return vent, especially larger rooms exceeding 100 square feet.

Without adequate return airflow, your HVAC system works harder, energy costs increase, and comfort decreases. A professional assessment can determine the optimal number and placement of return vents for your specific home layout.

Signs that your home needs additional return air vents include rooms that feel consistently stuffy, noticeable temperature variations between rooms, doors that slam shut when the HVAC system operates, or unexpectedly high energy bills. Excessive dust accumulation around supply vents can also indicate inadequate return airflow.

If you experience these issues, consulting with an HVAC professional can help determine if adding return vents would improve your system's performance.

Supply vents deliver conditioned air into your living spaces, while return air vents draw room air back to your HVAC system for reconditioning. Supply vents push treated air into rooms, while return vents pull air from rooms back toward your heating and cooling equipment.

Both components are essential for proper air circulation and system balance. Without sufficient return capacity, your HVAC system may experience pressure imbalances that reduce efficiency and comfort.

You should inspect and clean your return air vents at least once annually, according to industry recommendations. However, homes with pets, allergy sufferers, or noticeable dust buildup may benefit from more frequent cleaning.

Regular maintenance helps maintain good indoor air quality and ensures your HVAC system operates efficiently. Professional duct cleaning, which addresses the entire system beyond just the visible vents, is recommended every few years, depending on your home's specific conditions.
