"Replaced both my compressor and air handler which was nearly 50 years old, rewired and plumbed everything, added and removed ducting as needed to provide a clen install. Team was fast and professional During the initial quote/Inspection worked with me to understand my cooling needs and did not ty to upsell me. Scheduling was quick and they were even able to move up my install date. I would recomend them to anyone."

"Everything went great. The old hot water heater was removed and then the new hot water heater was installed where I requested it to be with all of the plumbing done in a neat professional manner. It was a pleasure working with Bamford plumbing and I have been very happy with the work they have done. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

"No-Frost Air Conditioning & Heating called before they sent their representative, and arrived in a timely manner. They were very professional, and even took the time to cover their feet before walking through the interior of the home. I was looking to have my 30-year-old AC unit replaced, but they took the time to assess what was wrong with the existing unit, and provide a competitive repair estimate. Ultimately, I decided I wanted to replace my old unit, instead of repair, so I did not end up hiring No-Frost Air Conditioning & Heating. That said, they were extremely professional, and I would recommend them for servicing and/or repairing existing HVAC systems."

"I called Pohlman to replace my Gas water heater. I was very pleased with their service. They were very professional, came out on the same day, took the old tank with them and cleaned up well behind themselves, They finish the job in a timely manner and their price was fair. I would definitely hire them again."

"Mr. Bost did an excellent job for me for a reasonable price. I know he obtained the best deal for me on the furnace and the air conditioning unit. He answered all my questions. He was on the job when he said he would be; he was professional and courteous. The installation went smoothly, and I have had no problem with the furnace or air conditioner since they were installed in 2008."

"Sila was one of three companies I contacted for estimates on replacing my oil-fired systems with heat pumps. I have a boiler and two forced air furnaces, so the work would be extensive. I contacted Sila because their reviews were favorable, they sell Carrier products (which I was leaning toward), and they sell high velocity systems, which I felt might be a good option in the older part of the house where I don't have ducts. I was prepared to really go over the things that work well with ducts in the house, things that don't, and what my general asks were for the systems. The salesman was pleasant enough, but seemed completely uninterested in how I felt my current systems were and what my goals were. I asked for a price on two levels of Carrier (Performance and Inifinity) for the existing forced air systems, and then price me out for a reasonable high velocity system. The sales person who came out was pretty perfunctory and didn't take good notes while we spoke. I didn't think he was really that engaged in my concerns about the routing of high velocity ducting and placement--he just told me how it would have to be. While sometimes that's how things work, I don't think he really addressed my concerns with having all outlets in the ceiling only in the lower level, which would potentially leave me with lots of heat hanging around the ceiling. However, the larger issues were that the bids did not match the requirements for the project. First, he sent only the high velocity bid and nothing for the other systems. When i asked, he sent the other estimate, but only for the Carrier Infinity, omitting that I specifically asked for a bid on doing those systems with a Performance line that would allow me to use my existing non-communicating thermostats. In addition, their bid was the most expensive and their attention to detail seemed poor for a $40,000+ job. Spending less than an hour with me and sending lackluster boilerplate bids (with all kinds of language that should not have been in the bid, like references to other brands, etc.). A bid should be custom for the buyer and tailored for match what I'm asking for. This lack of attention to detail and customer focus lost Sila this job."

"It went great! Vernon did an excellent job of replacing the furnace and air conditioning. He also made some improvements to my aging duct work to improve airflow. The results have been fantastic. A bedroom that used to require its own window unit to stay cool is now ice cold in the summer with the central air. Vernon and his father completed the jobs in a timely, professional manner and the price point was very reasonable compared to other offers. Father and son have many years of combined experience so I felt confident in their ability to do the work safely. It's been five months since they replaced the HVAC and so far, so good."

FAQs for ducts & vents installation and replacement projects in Baltimore, MD

Return air vents aren't required in every room, but proper placement is essential for system efficiency. According to industry standards, you'll need one return vent for every 100 to 150 square feet of living space. Ideally, each room would have its own return vent, especially larger rooms exceeding 100 square feet.

Without adequate return airflow, your HVAC system works harder, energy costs increase, and comfort decreases. A professional assessment can determine the optimal number and placement of return vents for your specific home layout.

Signs that your home needs additional return air vents include rooms that feel consistently stuffy, noticeable temperature variations between rooms, doors that slam shut when the HVAC system operates, or unexpectedly high energy bills. Excessive dust accumulation around supply vents can also indicate inadequate return airflow.

If you experience these issues, consulting with an HVAC professional can help determine if adding return vents would improve your system's performance.

Supply vents deliver conditioned air into your living spaces, while return air vents draw room air back to your HVAC system for reconditioning. Supply vents push treated air into rooms, while return vents pull air from rooms back toward your heating and cooling equipment.

Both components are essential for proper air circulation and system balance. Without sufficient return capacity, your HVAC system may experience pressure imbalances that reduce efficiency and comfort.

You should inspect and clean your return air vents at least once annually, according to industry recommendations. However, homes with pets, allergy sufferers, or noticeable dust buildup may benefit from more frequent cleaning.

Regular maintenance helps maintain good indoor air quality and ensures your HVAC system operates efficiently. Professional duct cleaning, which addresses the entire system beyond just the visible vents, is recommended every few years, depending on your home's specific conditions.
