"We had some floorboards buckle in our basement due to an unknown source of water. Jeff Dahlgren was fantastic and very helpful in helping us figure out the problem and his repairs were great (after having to dig up concrete and cap off a mysterious open pipe that came out of nowhere). He also did some other things (repairing drywall, installing new fixture and faucet), was on time, professional, clean, and friendly. It's really hard to work in a home wearing a mask and keeping things clean and tidy during pandemic, minimizing disturbance for kids in virtual school, and we really appreciate that."

"First person came by door-to-door to see if we wanted an estimate. Our house is 2000 sq feet (3/4 siding, 1/4 brick). Second person came to give us the estimate. It took at least three hours. The first estimate was more than $19K, but if we bought it right then, it would be $12K. We finally settled on $13.5K: $12K for siding and $1.5K for window and door caps. We were told that even though our window capping looked good, it would probably tear when they took off the old siding. We were told over and over what a great company it was. We were told everything that had aluminum would be replaced with vinyl, the new siding would be "practically seamless," and we were getting a great deal. A few days later someone visited us again. We went over the project and picked out the color. On the day of the installation, the crew started removing the old siding. Another "quality assurance" person showed up at noon to go over any questions. He again told us what a great deal we got. He looked around and went up on the roof. He also noticed that there was aluminum covering on front half of the rake on north side of the house but not the back half. He said there was an issue behind the gutters at the top of the house, that moisture could get between the gutters and the house, and that the job was really going to look incomplete without new coverings for all the rake. He gave us an estimate: normally it would be $3500, but if we bought it right then, it would be $2000. We agreed to pay for covering the rake. The window wrap did not rip when the aluminum was removed. The new window wrap looks exactly like what was already on the house. There are a lot of seams; even the smallest lengths have seams. Once the job was wrapping up, the last person showed up. We told him there were a lot of seams. He said they wouldn't be noticable further away from the house. There are a couple of places where the pieces behind the gutter were not cut correctly. I expect they will be able to fix this. Bottom line? We're glad we got new siding, but with all the high-pressure sales tactics and inconsistencies in presentation, we still feel like we got ripped off."

"This company was great to work with! They are professional and offer outstanding deals for projects big and small. They gave us new siding to our two condo buildings, installing it within a few days once the supplies arrived. After that, we had a new sliding patio door installed. Gary was easy to reach and made these two projects go smoothly. I definitely recommend them!"

"The window install and the siding replacement went great. Had 2 different crews to complete the work. The window install crew (Todd) was pleasant to deal with. They were knowledgeable and completed the install in one day as planned. They even went a little beyond and put my blind brackets back in the windows. The siding install went great. Mr. Lee and his crew completed the siding in 1 1\2 days they came in the snow to complete the job. The siding looks great i am completely satisfied with the work done. The contractors for both jobs had me inspect the work before they left the premises to confirm it was completed to my satisfaction. The gutter install had a little snafu. I ordered the gutter guards for my gutters but there was an error in the paperwork. I called S&K and spoke to Mary, she rectified the problem instantly The estimates I received were accurate, no hidden cost to me for any of the work done. They communicated with me with the install dates to confirm they worked for me. S&K has great customer service everyone I spoke to throughout the process was pleasant and curious. A great company to deal with. No pressure to sign the contract, a sale representative came out emailed me the estimate, no pressure to sign that day. A great company to deal with. the entire process was effortless. I would recommend S&K roofing for windows, siding and gutters."

"I needed a complete exterior redo (roofing, siding, wood wrap and gutters), the services went very, very well and my home looks Brand New! The company is quality oriented, timely, honest and responsive. I would recommend them to anyone who needs their roofing or siding repaired and/or replaced. TJ, the owner was Johnny on the spot, responded to all my questions, concerns and requests within minutes by phone or text. He went above and beyond customer satisfaction with his personal service. His crew were hard working, precise, respectful and did whatever I asked of them during the repairs. You can't go wrong with this company!!"

FAQs for siding installation or repair service projects in Washington, DC

Compared to many exterior options, board and batten is on the affordable side. Simple one-story layouts and standard materials keep both labor and supply costs down. If you choose premium wood or a design with lots of angles, your price will rise, but most homeowners still find the look and durability worth the spend.

Batten trim is a more cost-effective solution compared to full board and batten siding, as it eliminates the additional expense of installing base planks. Batten trim is applied directly to drywall, which reduces material and labor costs, delivering clear savings. This efficient method reduces expenses while still providing an attractive finish for interior applications, making it a smart and budget-friendly choice for homeowners.

Standard board and batten siding achieves a traditional appearance by utilizing larger boards with smaller battens. In contrast, reverse board and batten siding creates a modern look with smaller boards and larger battens. Both styles are functionally equivalent and incur the same labor and upkeep costs. Homeowners must choose between the two based on their desired curb appeal and compatibility with the home’s architectural style.

Tally up three things before you decide: budget, climate, and maintenance time. Wood, vinyl, fiber cement, and metal all work with board and batten, but each has a different price tag, life span, and upkeep routine. Weigh those factors against your home’s style and weather patterns to land on the best fit and longest-lasting curb appeal.
