Technician gave me a list of options from simple that I could do myself had I bothered to study the problem--replacing the rubber flapper--to needlessly complex that I could not see how the problem could be solved--tech proposed installing a water softener system, based on the rust-colored stains inside the tank. I explained that the toilet was old, and that the stains probably came from a time when the house was on well water. Since then, the house went onto city water and we haven't seen stains anywhere else. This explanation did not deter the tech, as he recommended a water softener system twice more before he left. (This gave me the impression that Hope encourages all its technicians to recommend the most expensive "fix" to a problem, even if it may not be useful or necessary). In any case, I chose the simple solution and it reduced but did not totally fix the problem. I have called Hope and asked them to come back. We'll see."
