I called two fireplace service companies-one would not be in time for the service and the other I would not feel comfortable with on the basis of the telephone conversation. Then I called Air Tech, with whom we had good experience over the past many years.  The lady who answered phone was very friendly and informed me Air Tech did not normally repair fireplace but promised to check with their tech guys.  Then she called back that one of their guys would come by to replace the thermocouple (as I mentioned that thermocouple might be the problem).   Doug came by, first checked the thermocouple but could not find anything wrong with it, then he cleaned up the pilot assembly and orifice and fixed the problem.  Even though he is not specialized in the gas log fireplace, Doug was determined to solve the problem. The new water heater was the same dimensions as the old one and it took them about 2.5 hours. The final cost was $1,350, which was less than their original quote and much less than H2O Maestro.
