"Thought he was going to clean my gas furnace and instead he condemned it and then gave me a very high quote to replace it. I went with another company to replace it."

"I hired Whalen Plumbing to replace a defunct tanked hot water heater at my recently purchased home with a new high efficiency Navien unit in addition to a few other minor plumbing and gas fitting repairs. Ryan and his crew were excellent in both communication and quality of work. I plan on using them for all future plumbing/hvac projects! Highly recommended."

"We had a very old gas steam boiler (Pennco 25) that had been temperamental the past two winters. We had someone else come in before Ray to see if it could be fixed, and they let us know that it would probably need constant care and would continue to be unreliable. He then told us how hard it was to find anyone that could install steam systems, how so many people screwed it up, skipped over inspection requirements (chimney liner, make up air), and that he was one of the few people that could do it right. He quoted us around 17,000 for the work. <br /> After the shell shock, we looked around on Angies list to make sure we were getting a reasonable deal. Ray came in and clearly knew what he was talking about. He mentioned all of the things we had been warned that most plumbers didn't know about. He worked with a chimney company and was able to get someone in to line the chimney, did the calculations to determine that a make up air unit (fan in the can) was required, and was able to describe in details the various components of a properly installed steam system. <br /> Ray removed the old furnace and had the new one hooked up temporarily within a day to make sure we had head. We did have to provide our own electrical work, but had someone we worked with in the past and Ray was able to explain the work required. The electrical work and make up air was finished up a few days later along with the inspection, and in the end it cost about half as much as the original estimate. <br />"

"The plumber (Steve) arrived within the stated time frame, called from the driveway to announce his arrival, and was extremely courteous. He was neat and organized, and took pains to protect the floors from a mess. He explained his approach to troubleshooting, and based on the age of the plumbing, came-up with cost-effective solutions. He made additional adjustments (such as securing a toilet to the floor and tweaking the tank fill levels) to improve the performance of the fixtures. Additionally, he worked very quickly and was prepared with all the necessary parts on his truck. All 3 toilets are now in good running order."

"<p>Jeff promptly called us back and set up a day to inspect a leak in the large original 66 yr. old iron pipe in the ceiling of the basement. Jeff arrived at the exact time we agreed upon and after a complete examination explained the problem and gave a very reasonable estimate.</p> <p>The work was completed on time , the estimate given was the final price and Jeff told us step by step why and what he was doing. He was polite, professional, intelligent , a great person to talk to and the job was done exactly the way my wife and I envisioned. While at our house he also fixed a kitchen faucet. When you need a plumber, call Jeff, you will never call anyone else!</p> <br />"

"Plumber arrived in agreed on timeframe and worked efficiently. He answered a number of questions I had about replacing the stove and the work needed to re-pipe. Very shortly after he left I had an emailed invoice in my mail and was able to pay over the phone. Also of note: Office staff was very responsive to initial and follow-up email asking about the cost of service and scheduling."

FAQs for gas piping projects in North Scituate, MA

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
