Small jobs welcome

"Colton from Smith Remodel and Construction was amazing! Leading out to our sun room, we had an old slider door that we wanted to replace with new glass french doors and Colton did an outstanding job! Our older home created some challenges due to the custom sized door opening, but Colton went above and beyond to make it look great! He even took the time to create a custom threshold that transitioned the floor from tile to carpet! They cleaned up the site very well once the job was done and even vacuumed out our garage which he used as a work area. I would HIGHLY recommend Smith Remodel and Construction! We could not be happier with how it turned out! Thank y ou!"

"Jose and crew were timely, conscientious, great communicator, hard-working and tidy. They treated my little 1940 cabin in the desert like a brand new home. They worked with the materials I supplied and it was very enjoyable listening to them enjoying their work. I would highly recommend them.!"

"This house was a nightmare, many things were hidden and did not know until I started tearing up the floor and found joists were bad and so was the foundation. I called several companies and settled on Neil deWit construction.  He spent lot of time looking it over and trying to come up with the best plan to move forward with since there was so much to rebuild.
As you will see in the pictures I took, it was a major undertaking.  Basically removing everything below the 2nd floor and supporting the whole house while they removed the foundation, flooring and walls.  Lots of people came by to look, as there hasn't been too many houses that looked like this.  Neil's foreman and his crew are top notch and know what they are doing, and take pride in what and how they do it. If they can't fix it right, they don't want to do it. Seems like a pretty good idea since that way they don't have a shoddy job that someone else will have to come back in and fix it right.
So now we are at the place of putting on the siding but I wanted to post this even before they completed the job because as you see in the pictures it is quite an improvement. Once they are completely done I will post again.
I will call this crew again in a heart beat to fix any kind of problem with a house. I can guarantee you won't be disappointed in their work."

"Mike is a very talented and responsible contractor. I sought estimates from many different contractors and Mike was by far the most courteous and responsive. He made sure he understood my interests, provided feedback, and offered suggestions. The project was completed quickly and on budget. Mike was conscientious about minimizing dust in my home which I appreciated. I will be contacting Mike for future projects. Mike and his team are honest people that you can trust in your home."

FAQs for new home building projects in Des Moines, IA

Stone homes offer exceptional longevity compared to conventional building methods. These structures resist fire, insects, and severe weather conditions that often damage standard construction. While initial construction costs may exceed those of building methods, stone homes require less frequent repairs and maintenance over their lifespan. Many historic stone structures have remained functional for centuries, demonstrating their remarkable durability and longevity. This extended lifespan can result in lower long-term ownership costs, despite the higher initial investment.

Stone construction provides natural temperature regulation through thermal mass, potentially reducing heating and cooling requirements. As a natural material, stone requires minimal processing compared to manufactured building products. However, quarrying operations can impact local ecosystems, and transporting heavy stone materials creates significant carbon emissions. Homeowners can minimize environmental impact by selecting locally sourced stone and incorporating recycled materials where possible. The exceptional longevity of stone structures often results in a favorable environmental assessment over their lifetime compared to buildings that require frequent replacement.

Stone construction progresses more slowly than standard building methods due to the meticulous nature of stonework. The process requires careful material selection, precise placement, and appropriate curing times for mortar. Weather conditions significantly impact the construction timeline, as masonry work often has to pause during unfavorable conditions. The specialized skills required and the limited availability of experienced stonemasons can also extend project schedules. Homeowners should plan for extended construction timelines when pursuing stone house projects.

Most stone house projects utilize construction financing that converts to permanent mortgages upon completion. While stone construction represents a premium building method, some lenders recognize the inherent value and durability these structures provide. Construction loans require detailed plans, specifications, and contractor estimates for approval. Some regions offer specialized programs for traditional building methods or energy-efficient construction that may apply to stone houses. Consulting with multiple lenders helps identify the most favorable financing options for your specific project.
