"I was advised on Angie website the cost would be about ½ what he charged me. Be sure to get a price quote BEFORE you choose the service provider or BEFORE the work is done. I was charged $240.00 to change my thermostat and two filters I provided."

"We had five non-opening windows on the second story of a two-story entry way. Some of them were triple-paned and some were double-paned - probably scavenged from other jobs by the previous house owner. One of the exterior panes in one window had cracked from top to bottom. We got one estimate from a well-known glass replacement company that would have charged over $900 to replace the whole window. Curtis Weaver, of Lighthouse Glass, at our suggestion, removed only the broken pane leaving double pane window and charged half that. As it turned out, the window was framed in from the exterior of the house, so basically a custom box for the exterior had to be made. The job description was "Remove window, cut off broken lite. Reinstall window. Make custom box for exterior and replace, reseal and re-caulk." This was done well, efficiently, and the team of two arrived so that the job was completed early in the day. In addition, because we had exterior house painters coming, the window repair was scheduled so that it would be completed before the house was to be repainted the next week, and therefore the repair blended right in with the rest of the window frames.

"I contacted Jim Burke of Crestone about making a small repair to the 2nd floor deck of my house. After checking more thoroughly it was found there were a number of boards with significant decay. Many of the boards were so bad, there was nothing to hold a screw or nail. The small repair I had in mind would have left the deck dangerous, still not meeting building codes, and would have staved off replacement by only a year or two. Steve, the project manager, made suggestions that resulted in a more through repair and when a glitch was discovered part way though, a modification was made that resulted in an even stronger better looking finished product. Over 30+ years I worked over-seeing a variety of contractors who did every imaginable aspect of construction and maintenance work on the large office building I managed. The scope of the projects varied from adding or removing a door or two to adding 5,000, 10,000, and 20,000 square foot, two story additions to the building. The Crestone workers were as good or better than any I worked with. The workers showed up promptly every day, stayed on the job, and completed it without delay. Once they worked all day in a driving rain. They stayed on the job continually and took only a short lunch break. The workers thoroughly cleaned up at the end of every day and hauled away debris. In recent years I have wondered how projects get completed as the new acceptable standard appears to be that workers talk and text on their cell phones throughout the workday and take frequent smoke breaks. I saw Crestone’s employees making or taking a phone call only once or twice during the 6 day period and never saw an employee smoking a cigarette. The Crestone labor rate is based on 100% productivity the entire work day without an inefficiency factor for cigarette breaks, talking and texting on cell phones, or breaking and wasting time talking among themselves. The deck looks better and is stronger than when it was originally built in 1991. It looks 100% better than my simple repair would have produced. The shaky, wobbly stairs and rail are now very solid. I highly recommend Creston General for any home or construction job and will call them first for any work I may need to have accomplished."

"Dillon diagnosed our problems in minutes and after calculating what we needed exactly and us giving the go ahead he sin the job right then and there after getting the parts needed. He actually fixed our ongoing problem that discount mechanical couldn't diagnose after hours and taught us about what needed to be done down the the tiniest detail and how to keep it on the up and up. I'll never call another plumbing & heating company again, these guys are actually honest and they do the job when they say they're going to do it. It's amazing to meet honest people nowadays."

FAQs for thermostat installation and replacement projects in Anchorage, AK

Smart thermostats may be worth it for many homeowners. They come with various features, including voice control and smartphone apps. Vacation mode can help lower energy usage when you’re out of town for an extended period. Alert warnings let you know about major spikes or drops in temperature. Smartphone apps can track energy usage, and smart thermostats can learn your routine over time to adjust your temperature and reduce wasted energy consumption automatically.

You typically do not need more than one smart thermostat. While it’s common to see multiple mechanical thermostats throughout a large home, multiple smart thermostats may try to override each other. This can lead to problems with the HVAC system. Ensure the unit you buy has the option for dual- or multi-zoned systems to avoid compatibility issues.

Installing a programmable or smart thermostat may save you $180 per year in utility costs. A big part of this comes from a smart thermostat’s ability to learn and adapt to your regular routines. With smartphone apps or web-based interfaces, you also have the option to control your thermostat when you’re not home.
