Customers say: Quick response

"We had Luis repair and refinish our dining room table, which needed a lot of work after 30 years of wear and tear. He did such a beautiful job that we had him refinish the matching buffet table, as well as repair and refinish an antique sewing table. We highly recommend him!"

"Really prompt, knows his furniture. Wilson was on time, returned with half of the chairs, took the rest ( that allowed us to have dining room chairs) the work was great. I had no idea of what it was going to cost, and only reviewed a couple of sites on what to expect in cost, He was in the ball park for sure on cost. very fast service after calling to set up appointment to drive and see what we had to work on, ON TIME - great.."

"They did a fantastic job, both repairing one couch and on reupholstering our second. Jad pointed out all of the places on our loveseat that could be improved, like fixing the stuffing in the arms of the chair, even though I’d only initially asked for it to be reupholstered. He didn’t charge me to redo the throw pillows, and in all did a great job. I cannot recommend this business highly enough, and look forward to using them in the future."

"I spoke to several furniture re-finishers from Angie's List and Wayne's price was less than half that of all the others. He promptly returned all my calls. He gave me a rough estimate of $300 on the phone after I had described the issue, and then came out to see it--and he stuck to his phone estimate (which included delivery). He took the top off the base and took the two leaves with him the same day. And unlike the others I had spoken with, who said it would take them over a month to complete the job--and they couldn't even start right away, Wayne had it done and returned in one week (just as he said he would). I admit I was a bit nervous because his price was so much less than the others-- but that worry was unnecessary: he did an absolutely beautiful job! The table looks brand new. I couldn't be happier and am looking forward to my next dinner party! I will definitely use Wayne again and will recommend him highly to friends. <br />"

"Scott was excellent to work with. He provided an estimate, and picked up the table at an agreed upon time. When he delivered the finished product, I could not have been more pleased. The quality of his refinishing work was second to none, and closely matched the overall color of the table prior to the fire. Once I saw the table, I knew that I had made the correct choice in having the table refinished vs. buying a new replacement table."

"It was spectacular. Previously, this company re-springed and re-stuffed this furniture and, against their strong recommendation but with my insistence, put on the original upholstery (sentimental issue on my part). This was heroic, and they did not introduce one new rip in highly sensitive, fragile and aged upholstery. Then 15 years later I returned with a request to improve it and re-upholster. I didn't know the best choices for upholstery, and they guided my decision-making without big footing, and it was painless. The furniture is now restored to its shockingly spectacular 1920s splendour and I could not be more pleased. The service was unfailingly considerate; indeed, halfway through I thought I changed my mind about one aspect, and they invited me into the working area to discuss our best options, without judgment. The pickup and delivery were executed by workers who were extra-careful both with the furniture and the surround, and they were willing to rearrange other furniture to make sure everything was where I wanted it. This is only my latest experience with these extraordinary crafts people. It's a family enterprise, and there is so much talent in that group. This was a sofa and two plush armchairs that needed enormous work. When they discovered new problems with the furniture, they extended discounts on the repairs, too! I've included before and after. The photos don't do justice to the spectacular change in our room."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Arlington, VA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
