"We are absolutely in love with our new shower. We hired West Shore Homes to remove our existing tub/shower combo and replace it with a new shower. The installers Jordan and Tim were very customer oriented and technically skilled. They arrived per the schedule and completed the installation in a very reasonable amount of time. All while being courteous enough to answer all of our questions. The installation was very high quality, and included replacement of the existing drywall behind the shower with plywood sheets. This provided a rock solid backing for the acrylic material that we selected. Additionally, all of the components used were of stellar quality. As I indicated, we absolutely love the finished product and have no qualms about recommending West Shore Homes for this type of work."

"I have been renovating our house that was built in 1950’s and I am nearly finished. I previously hired All Renovations to update my two upstairs bathrooms with the 1950’s tile where they did a superb job. Now that I am working on the basement, I decided to go with All Renovations again to update the basement bathroom and again I am very happy with the results. The basement bathroom was in the laundry room with a washer, dryer, cabinets and a water softener system making it a tight squeeze for the space. Upon viewing the construction options with Adrian of All Renovations, he thought of moving the water softener system to an adjacent hallway closet. This allowed dividing the space into a separate bath with a nearly 3’ x 6’ shower and maintaining a full laundry room with a utility sink as well. Adrian with his “can do” attitude was a real champ at getting the work done. He also is very detailed with his work and makes sure things are completed correctly – a true compliment to the All Renovations team. If you are considering hiring professionals for your home improvement project, you won’t go wrong with All Renovations. I have hired them now for three bathrooms, a detached garage and a portico addition. I am very pleased their work and I recommend them with full confidence."

"Scope of work in our house built in 1950’s with low ceilings and small spaces: Gut and rebuild our kitchen and two bathrooms including the Master Bath. In addition, taking down a wall between our kitchen and the dining room (to create peninsula), removing a door between kitchen and the outside patio, and bricking to close this space., installing new window in the kitchen. Comments: We discussed with several contractors our project and after thorough consideration we decided to work with DMV of Gaithersburg, Maryland. The selling point for us to select DMV was a feeling of not being pressured to sign, being truly in charge of this project (not perceived when discussing with others) AND their flexibility in the design concept. We were not disappointed with our decision. Particularly, their flexibility meant that we could make changes "on the fly" if not satisfied or had new ideas. Importantly, unless those changes meant additional costs in materials or a significant change from the scope of work, there were no additional costs of labor to make these adjustments. As an example, we changed the color of paint three times in one bathroom (after painting was completed) to get the look we wanted. No problem and no additional cost to do this! Anyone who has renovated a kitchen or bath will likely tell you that no matter how much planning you do ahead of time, it cannot fully prepare you for what the finished product in your home will look like. DMV understands this and both their patience and flexibility with the homeowner is truly commendable. They also work closely with the glass company and custom-made great looking shower cabin in one of our bathrooms and a beautiful glass panel cover for the window inside the second shower cabin. Something we’ve been told by several other companies was not possible to execute. The end-products are not only beautiful, allowing daylight in our small bathrooms (which otherwise would be dependent on electric light only), but are also very functional. It's clear, DMV knows its craft well. We were provided a detailed timeline of the entire project. This was very helpful in understanding the timing of events for planning purposes. The schedule was reasonably followed although there were occasional delays due to timing of materials being delivered or having to wait for a damaged material to be replaced by the manufacturer (at no additional cost to us). Working team was always on time, polite, working hard, clean, and conscientious of us living in our home during the renovation. Javier, Jacinto and the rest of the team were wonderful to work with. DMV used only company employees and no contractors. We absolutely love our new kitchen and both bathrooms! Thank you, DMV! If we were to renovate again, DMV would be our first choice."

"Renovations included a Guest Bathroom using the original footprint and a more extensive renovation for the Master Bathroom. Ultimate Remodel LLC's owner, Tunch Aydo, was extremely helpful in explaining the projects' designs, suggested materials and details and answering all my questions and concerns in the planning period and throughout both renovations. His crew Alex, Alex and Noel did outstanding work on both bathrooms. They kept me up to date on each day's work and subsquent plans and cleaned up at the end of each day too. Tunch was always available for questions and made site vists throughout the projects. The Master Bathroom renovation was more extensive and Tunch's design maximized the new bathroom space and new walk-in closet. The transformation from what this was to what it is now is outstanding. He kept the projects to the timeline and the budget. I highly recommend Tunch and his company and want to thank him for these beautifully done bathrooms."

"We chose Select Kitchen and Bath to do our bathroom based on their existing reviews. As we are so happy with our experience we decided to leave a review ourselves. We liked Select Kitchen and Bath from the beginning of working with them. Derek listened to what we wanted for our future bathroom. The work and cost involved to create the bathroom of our dreams was clearly itemized on the contract prior to us signing on the dotted line. At the start of our project, John and Scott walked us through what we wanted and made sure that the contract did reflect where our project was going. As with every project John and Scott warned us there could be a few surprises when the old bathroom was removed. Indeed we did have a small amount of extra work required based on original construction issues that could not have been identified prior to the project starting. The extra scope of work was outlined clearly and the additional extra costs (which were minimal) were also clearly explained. Scott did a great job of building our shower and floor. Of installing our cabinets and of meeting our unusual requests regarding the remaining untiled wall space. We originally did not have drywall installed as we intended to do our own art project on the walls completed by us personally. When due to our own personal circumstances the scope of our art project had to change, Select Kitchen and Bath were very accommodating and returned to drywall our bathroom. Again the contract clearly delineated the scope of work and the cost involved. We understood that installing drywall at the beginning of a project is much easier than doing it at the end. Even so Bill did a fantastic job of making it look like it had been there right from the beginning. We are very happy with our bathroom. It is such a pleasure to use and it has met the requirements we set at the very beginning: it is easy to clean, functional and looks absolutely gorgeous. So Thank you Select Kitchen and Bath."
An expansive Robern medicine cabinet with integrated LED lighting really brightens up the bathroom. Flat panel cabinetry from Crystal Cabinets with tab pulls were used to maximize storage.

"Our Nine year old deck had imploded due to poor construction, cheap materials and bad workmanship. Two Brothers Handyman had done previous work for us on another project and were available to replace the old deck. Ruben has a quality and extremely talented workforce. Demolition took little time and they took their time shoring up and replacing the deck footers. Workmanship was excellent and every detail was taken into consideration. We are extremely happy with our deck. Our neighbors are envious...the new deck compliments our backyard."

"We was getting estimates for our bath room remodeling. Harlan came to give us free estimate and introduced us new shower wall system. This wall system prevents shower wall inside from getting molds and bacteria. It also has a variety of panel design choices . Harlan presented to us with four different options based on our preferences and budget. We were able to pick one easily and are very excited to get it started."

FAQs for shower installation and replacement projects in Arlington, VA

Replacing your tub with a shower can modernize your bathroom and improve accessibility, often providing a high return on investment. However, if it's the only bathtub in your home, removing it may decrease resale value, as many buyers look for at least one bathtub. Consider your long-term plans and consult a real estate professional if resale value is a concern.

While showers cost slightly more to install than tubs, the overall expense depends on various factors such as materials, size, and features. A tub installation costs $2,400 to $8,800 on average, whereas showers average $2,000 to $9,400. Custom designs, luxury fixtures, or extensive plumbing work can increase costs for both options. It's important to assess your specific needs and budget when deciding between installing a shower or a tub.

Converting a tub to a shower generally takes between one and three days. The timeline depends on the complexity of the project, materials chosen, and whether plumbing modifications are necessary. Installing a standard prefabricated shower can be completed quickly, while custom tile work or extensive plumbing changes may extend the project's duration. Planning accordingly can help minimize disruptions during the conversion.

Converting a tub to a shower offers several benefits, including saving space and making your bathroom feel more open and modern. Showers improve accessibility, especially for those with mobility challenges, by eliminating the need to step over a high tub wall. Additionally, updating to a stylish shower can enhance your bathroom's aesthetic appeal and may increase your home's resale value if another tub is available elsewhere in the house.

Choosing between a shower stall and a custom shower depends on your budget and preferences. Prefabricated stalls are less expensive and faster to install but offer limited styles. Custom showers allow personalization of size, materials, and features but cost more and require professional installation. Evaluate your needs and budget to select the best option for your space.

If you’re converting a tub to a shower, you may want to consider remodeling your whole bathroom. The ROI on bathroom remodels is high (over 70%), so you can enjoy an upgraded bathroom while you live in your home and get your money back if you decide to sell later. The average cost to remodel a bathroom is around $6,600 to $16,600, so factor in this price range when you’re budgeting for your project.

Converting a tub to a shower alone isn't easy to DIY, so look for a bathroom remodeler near you if you decide to take on a larger bathroom remodel to ensure it's done correctly.
