"Our air conditioner stopped working. We were informed by a large national company that the unit needed to be replaced. We were given a quote between 13 and $18,000. We sought a second opinion from short pump heating and air. Josh quickly determined the problem and had our unit working for a fraction of the cost."

"First of all, I contacted Rakim with short notice of an emergency job that needed to be done. The person I referred him to was in a dire strait situation ( there was no heat in the home) and the weather was frigid cold. He showed up on time, assessed the situation, and immediately took action and got the job done! He is honest, fair, and above all has a great personality and has a genuine concern for people. I recommend Rakim and his son for any job big or small because he will do what is best for the situation and not take advantage of you. He is also very knowledgeable about what he’s doing."

"My experience with C3 was wonderful, start to finish. Bryan, unlike other folks who gave me an estimate, took time to talk with me, explain everything in detail, and was available as needed throughout the project. He has also been great about promptly providing the names of good companies for other needs I had, i.e. a plumber or someone to check out possible water damage. The crew were prompt, polite, and very patient with my questions throughout the process, as was the office staff. I would not hesitate to hire this company again!"

"Upon experiencing deficiencies in the cooling of my home over the summer, I had my heat pump inspected by a local HVAC service. They were contracted through my home warranty plan and I do not recall the company name. I was told that the system had just become "too old" and was not repairable. I began the process of soliciting quotes for replacement. I called a local "big" company who I won't name, but is well known through their TV advertising and locally flavored name. They sent out a representative who briefly opened the door to my crawlspace, then viewed and photographed my air handler without stepping inside. From this I received a quote for a brand new heat pump system. Two days later I called Automatic Climate Control to ask for a quote for comparison. Michael Snipes came out the next day, opened the door to the crawlspace and immediately saw a section of ductwork collapsed on the ground and broken open. He then entered the crawlspace and spent about 20-30 minutes evaluating the situation. He provided me with quotes to replace the system, but not before explaining to me that much of my cooling problems were due to the collapsed and open duct work. Inside that ductwork was considerable mold and other biohazards, which he had photographed and showed me. He suggested to me that I open a service request to have the system looked at again, even if I chose to have another company do this, before I decide to replace it. I did make a call for service that afternoon, and I requested Automatic Climate Control through my home warranty contract. Their technician came out the next day, found the duct work broken in three places and losing 80% of the conditioned air into the crawlspace. He also found that the blower motor was faulty and needed replacement. I had Automatic Climate Control replace the blower motor which was covered under warranty. I also had them replace the main trunk of duct work which had collapsed and was biologically contaminated, and clean my remaining duct work. This was all done promptly in a single day. I am happy to say that my home is cooler and cleaner smelling than it has been in years, thanks to Michael and ACC. They chose to do right by me and not just offer to replace a system at considerable cost, which I didn't need. I will look to them for all of my service needs in the future, and when it comes time to actually replace my aging heat pump, Automatic Climate Control will be doing the installation. They saved this customer thousands of dollars instead of selfishly lining their own pockets. Thank you so much!"

"Jim is local.  It went great. Jim Ferrell is a professional of the highest caliber. Responded quickly, took care of my problems, and advised me as to better means of protection than I had. He came back a second time to uninstall software that I purchased that did not provide adequate protections and installed free software that would do the job.  He did the work through remote connection, but is available on site if necessary.
For those people needing help on getting red of malware, viruses , etc. on your computer,  Jim is local, better than all thse remote out of state location providers, is a mature, highly trained professional in this area.
If you go to local computer stores you get very young people that can do a basic job, but are no where near the professional level of Jim.
I highly recommend Jim to anyone that needs these type services.

"

On first call, showed up next day, I had let my 99 dollar a year maintenance fee expire in December due to other cost prioritities. At that point the system was working again, so it was 58 dollars for the visit, and I went ahead an  renewed annual policy for 99 dollars also. That night system wasn't working, I took some pics and video of what was happening, they came out again promptly the next day, and was able to diagnose the circuit breaker in house box was bad. They weren't comfortable with the electrical work, so they removed breaker and referred me to Woodfin, no additional charge from Atlantic. Woodfin came out, replaced two breakers, and advised "it's going to happen again, you should replace the whole circuit box" for 1400 dollars, I deferred that because I looked at the main box bus myself, and have a bit of metallurgy background,. I had them just put in two breakers, and added an annual checkup, additional 250 dollars. so basically they charged me 150 dollars to replace a couple of 10-20 dollar breakers. I will probably eventually replace the main box, but I will monitor it for now, no additional damage, so the breakers are doing their job, and it IS an older main panel box. Atlantic needs to have their own inhouse electrical that can do a little more indepth electrical things, but overall a good job, very prompt and good service as usual from Atlantic, they do outsource to Woodfin some, I'm not familiar enough with them to just believe what they say, but they seem nice enough, and have a product to sell.

"I have purchased the top-of-the-line York heat pump system, high intensity filtration ultra violet light, electrostatic air filter and completely removed and installed all of the duct work within the house. I have also taken advantage of their contract program providing many benefits to the home owner not found elsewhere. Their pricing is very fair creating an outstanding value to the customer. All of this work was the result of their many complete evaluations of our home, recommendations with the added benefit of allowing us time to make the choice to correct the problem or wait for a better situation financially. One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning is very unique in determining a problem situation, offering several options including their recommendation, allowing the customer to make the final choice. In our case everything they discovered, options recommended all came to pass involving no pushy sales attitude or environment.
We've also taken advantage of there electrical services as that is a major benefit of having a service contract. The inspections of our home and the defects found in the construction and wiring leading to immediate correction, saved our home from potential disaster.
Here are some Dos and Don'ts which might be of benefit to you in using One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning as your HVAC/Electrical service provider.
    •   1.  Call them for a preventive maintenance evaluation for a nominal cost
    •   2.  Have your questions and concerns written down before their arrival
      •   3.  Listen to their evaluation report and multiple opportunities and options to repair, correct or improve your situation
      •   4.  Be honest regarding your specific financial situation and/or concern for the recommended need right now or not
      •   5.  Read everything available about the business and the individuals taking full advantage of their programs for costs savings
      •   6.  Feel comfortable in asking any questions regarding the project from technical through to accounting without being made to
      •        feel stupid, ignorant or unprofessional in all respects.

I write this review only because I am a new Angie's List member, realize the tremendous benefit this site has created for the consumer and realizing One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning was already listed. What I have shared here is rare within the service industry and is very deserving of honorable mention with a strong recommendation to others. I maintain very high standards for the businesses I deal with and when an outstanding business provider is located, I do not hesitate in sharing it for the value and benefit of others to take advantage of their services. I have experienced nothing but professional encounters from purchasing to support with this company for 15+ years. What more can one say?

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Ashland, VA

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
