"We had serious issues with our second (half) story being consistently warmer than our first story, bringing with it very high electric bills. Peak Energy performed an energy audit that identified the issue and then sealed our attic (in the middle of a summer heat wave, no less) in 2 days. The team was professional and punctual and the discrepancy in our temperatures between the two floors went from >5 degrees to <2 degrees."

"Work has been scheduled for early in 2019, but they could not have been more helpful and professional in explaining our options, how our home would get the most out of the panels, and how much we are likely to save. They were explicit about costs and available rebates. We were instructed to apply for a rebate from our local energy supplier and they literally walked us through the time specific rebate procedure. We made some minor changes to their standard contract and they accepted those changes without question. I can only assume their work will be up to these standards when we do the actual installation."

"Be careful dealing with Triangle Reconstruction. Rob, the owner comes off as humble, honest and sincere, but if something goes wrong watch out ! I hired Triangle Reconstruction back in the winter to repair the foundation at my house. This was a very large project of which I had paid him about a third. On January 11 they caused a fire at my house burning down my kitchen. Rob was very apologetic at first, but when I told him I wanted another company to finish the project he said I owed him a lot of money for the work they did and he claimed that they had completed %80 of the job. Fortunately, I had a reputable structural engineer come out to inspect my foundation before they started working on my house and then I had him come back after the fire. The engineer stated only 1/3 of the work had been completed - if that much ! Rob also threatened to file a stop work order if I did not let him bring ‘his engineer’ out to look at it. I understand accidents happen and against the advice of many people I was actually willing to give him the opportunity to finish the job and try to help rectify the situation. However Rob’s estimate to finish was nowhere close to being equitable and provided no consideration for the hardship he has caused in my life. His estimate even included money owed for work they did in the kitchen which was burnt in the fire that they caused ! He clearly doesn’t understand the gravity of this and what my family and I have gone through and what we’re still going through. We have been out of our house for almost 5 months now and probably won’t be able to move back in for another month or two. My family has suffered tremendously due to this company’s negligence."

"If I could I would give this company 0 stars. They are not honest and totally misrepresent their work in a highly unethical, illegal manner. They utilize fear mongering sales tactics to rope you in and charge astronomical prices for work that they do (in reality don't do). They are very good at this shady sales tactic. We contracted with Indoor Environmental Systems (IES) for several projects and ended paying almost $100,000 when all was said and done. Because of the issues we have experienced as detailed below, I am going to utilize an independent inspector to review all of the work that IES has done for us to make sure the rest is legit, safe and performed as contracts indicate. One of the projects was for 'Closed Crawl Space Repairs'. The scope of work detailed: Ground & foundation walls covered using insulation liner; Foam/foil (150mil) radiant barrier - Provides moisture, radon & temperature control. The main intent for these repairs was to eliminate (at the least reduce) radon. The IES salesman indicated that their process will 'most likely eliminate the radon completely' but that there was a small chance it would not and in that case we would need to contact a radon mitigation company. The completed work had zero impact on the radon levels, so I reached out to a radon mitigation company. They came and did their inspection and informed me the product used by IES is not safe for crawlspaces and does nothing to help with the control of radon. Not only is it highly flammable (they showed me by holding a lighter up to the material and it instantly combusted) but is also against building code ASTE E1745-11 CLASS A, B, C. I contacted IES with this information and was provided with a link to a general product page [*** Link removed ***] by the owner Stephen McLeoud. Nowhere on this page, or any of the specific product detail pages is there any mention of radon, let alone being able to control radon as the scope of work indicates. In a very poor attempt to further divert from being held responsible/liable, Mr. McLeoud also sent me this link: [*** Link removed ***] He stated, "When reviewing the HOW TO INSULATE A CRAWL SPACE refer to Benefits of Prodex Total Insulation In Crawlspaces, find #7 which states radon resistant." This link talks about sealing the ceiling with the product that was used, however our ceiling wasn't sealed. And using Prodex Total Under Concrete for the floors, which wasn't used on our project and is specific for being used under concrete slabs. Therefore, the statement of being radon resistant is false. Important to note that I tried contacting insulation4less.com (sole distributor of the product used) multiple times over several days to get feedback from them. It went straight to some sketch voicemail every time and I have yet to receive any call back. I even tried to contact the product manufacturer and their phone number is disconnected, and their is no email address on the website. Crazy..."

"We have had issues with this company since we got it installed first they installed a unit knowing that our house we need more wattage and didn’t update it or tell us second for the entire winter of 2021 no heating and when we called we were only Greeted with disrespectful tones and lies with no resolve the owner came by earlier this year to so called fix the issue just to have a agent come back a few months later to find A Freon link that they didn’t charge for replacing the freon because they never fixed the leak this company is horrible and i would allow them near my house unless you wanna pay 8000 for a unit that doesn’t work. Approximate cost of service includes all fans and heaters purchased during the times we didn’t have proper AC or heating and The pain is suffering currently owner is saying that the state won’t allow our house to be lower then outside heat Index never heard of that before"

"Excellent repair job with absolutely no complaints. This review is after posting a 3 star review a few days ago for not returning my phone calls. I was contacted on Monday and given an apology with explanation that the company had been short staffed and had tried to contact me earlier, apparently the call going to my Spam box. On 12-14-22, Tyler arrived at 11 AM and immediately went to work to locate the trouble with my underground dog fence. Apparently several breaks were located and repaired, about a 2 hour job. Tyler was very professional and apologetic for not getting out sooner and reduced my service bill by 50% for any inconvenience experienced. I tried to remove the earlier comments posted a few days back but was unsuccessful, thus this new review. Outstanding and pleased with the repair."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Benson, NC

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
