"I called Perma-Seal for a Foundation Crack in my home. James came out to evaluate the problem, he called ahead to let me know he was on his way, arrived on time and even came with his own clogs to enter my home. I must say James performed a very comprehensive analysis of the problem, he spent nearly an hour and a half mapping out my basement and inspecting the exterior of the house even in a slight drizzle. He reached out to his colleagues for input and when done explained the problem and solutions professionally and with video presentations of the process. Jame’s professionalism and attention to detail was impressive along with being very courteous and respectful of my property."

"We just had our attic and crawl space insulated and a moisture barrier put in. The crew showed up on time and every one of them was polite and professional. We could tell they had a lot of experience working together because they were super organized. While the boss, Dave, walked us through the process in detail, making sure we understood the job, behind him the crew set up quickly and efficiently, treating our home with respect. They were finished right on time, too, and left our house looking as if they had never been there. Before they left, Dave showed us their work and explained how these improvements would make our home more energy efficient. Every crew member made sure to say goodbye to us. They were amazing people! We highly recommend Building Energy Experts."

"Jim came out and assessed multiple problems with the air sealing and insulation in three attics in our home. He clearly explained what Energy 360 would do to solve the problems. His crew came out and performed the work over two days. They were neat, polite and did a very thorough job- no problems. They arrived on time and completed the job on time, exactly as promised. I would use them again ....highly recommended! <br />"

"I would hire SAFE Electric again and again and again! They are prompt, responsive, fair, efficient, courteous, respectful, etc. I have the highest recommendation for this company. Their customer service is top-notch and I'm grateful to have a company I can call when stuff just stops working or if I need to upgrade my lighting fixtures. I appreciate how they explain everything that needs to be done and what they did. You will not be disappointed. It wouldn't be hyperbole to say it will be the best home repair experience you will ever have."

"Great! Our energy bill is immensely lower now, and we have a lot less bugs and mice because of some holes into the house they found. OUr home is a lot more energy efficient. They even worked with us to find us discounts on their services through some government programs. The only issue was that they left a bit of a mess behind. Luckily we had a dumpster on our property at the time, but it took us a few trips to the dumpster to remove their excess supplies. I even contacted them about this, and they apologized but didn't offer to come clean it up. <br />"

"Very well. Jeffrey came on time, did a thorough inspection (including talking us through what he was seeing and how big of a deal, or not, it was), and did some helpful education for us as first time homebuyers."

"HE WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL. DURING THE AUDIT, HE EXPLAINED THINGS AND INDICATED SOME CHANGES THAT COULD BE MADE TO MAKE THINGS MORE EFFICIENT. THE DETAILED REPORT DELIVERED A WEEK LATER WAS VERY HELPFUL. WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED ALMOST ALL OF HIS SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS. WE EXPECT TO SAVE MONEY ON OUR HEATING BILLS THIS WINTER. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH TIME IN YOUR SCHEDULE FOR THE HOME ENERGY AUDIT. YOU WILL NEED TO SPEND TIME WITH HIM WHEN HE COMES."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Chicago, IL

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
