"Gregg showed up on time and arrived well prepared to perform the services I requested. He was friendly and cheerful, and completed the routine maintenance of my furnace and the installation of a new humidifier as I requested. I'll be using Adams Heating & Cooling to perform maintenance on my air conditioner and clean the ducts in my home."

"The whole process was long, but the audit process was done in one day and overall very informative. He came and spent 5 hours going through all the areas of the house looking for energy savings opportunities. He collected the data and did the analysis with computer software. after the contractors finished, Dan came back to perform the second audit. He then filed all the paperwork to the State of NY so we can redeem the 10% cash back."

"Spec Pro was extremely thorough and engaging during the inspection. Ian explained to us exactly what he was doing throughout the inspection and was very candid about issues that were concerning and about those that were of little or no concern. For example, we were worried about some stains in the shower and Ian reassured us that the issue was likely a cleanliness fix, not an underlying issue. He climbed into the attic and inspected so thoroughly that he identified potential mold-like substances under the insulation. The report was promptly provided the same day and included detailed descriptions and pictures of the home. When we had follow up questions to clarify elements of the report, Ian was responsive and helpful."

"Jay was great! We are in the middle of the homebuying process and contacted him for a sewer line scope. He came prepared and walked us through what he was seeing. Even though it wasn't great news (obstruction, ended up being a collapsed line), we're glad he found it now rather than after we had closed on the home. I recommend that everyone get the sewer line inspected before buying a home. It definitely worth it for us!"

"Had a NYSERDA energy audit with this company and decided to contract with them to do the insulation work. Had a little trouble in the beginning nailing down an actual date and time that the workers would show up. I was told that they would show up at 10am and be at my house all day. I made arrangements to be home and got a call at 11 am saying that the workers would be there in an hour or so. They showed up at 2pm and worked until about 4:30 that day. There seemed to be a bit of a communication breakdown between the salesperson, whom I had dealt with all along, and the production team. Otherwise, they were very responsive in returning my calls or e-mails promptly. The second workday went a bit smoother. However, I didn't realize how messy the cellulose can be. There were a couple of times during the process when the cellulose escaped from the wall and went into the house through an unseen crack in the wall underneath the kitchen sink. This stuff gets everywhere and gets light grey dust on everything. This wasn't the fault of the contractor but, I thought it was important to note here. I am still finding this stuff. When it happened, it was promptly recognized by the crew and cleaned up immediately as best they could. The spray foam was performed by a sub-contractor. This process took about 30 minutes. The workers showed up, sprayed, cleaned up, and left before I knew it. I was warned about a smell from the drying foam, but was pleasantly surprised that there was barely any odor. The bathroom fan works great and is properly vented to the outside. This is a minor detail, but the wall switch to it was installed a little sloppy and you could see the edge of the hole that was cut in the wall to install the box for the switch. I installed a new switch myself and got a larger plate to completely cover the hole. Overall.... Gary, the owner of the company seems very knowledgeable and experienced about this type of work. He was very willing to answer all my questions and talk with me at length about my concerns. Tim, the salesperson, is also very knowledgeable and prompt in returning correspondence. The workers were respectful and cleaned up. The company seems to be having some growing pains in that they seem stretched too thin due to the number of energy audits they are receiving. I won't know the full effects of the insulation until next winter but I am looking forward to the energy savings that the audit predicted."

"This review is for the referring sales consultant. Smitty stayed in contact through the whole process. He took time to walk me through the stages of my solar project and answered any questions I had. While I can’t say my solar project was problem free. Smitty stuck with me to ensure all my concerns were addressed. He encouraged me to stand my ground with the contractor, when a problem arose with the roof replacement which was the first phase of the job. Smitty provided excellent customer service. He answered and addressed all my concerns and has remained in contact as the work progressed. Thanks again Smitty."

"Very well. After verifying that the circuit breaker was not at fault, Mike and Tara systematically traced the line with a sophisticated electronic line tracer and inspected every outlet and switch. This is a difficult task in a hundred year-old house that has been extensively remodeled. The fault was found to be in an outlet hidden behind a cabinet on the basement stairs. If you have an old house that needs electrical work, call Ungerman Electric."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Albany, NY

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
