"I had my oil changed at ASG, instead of at the BMW dealer because I received a free oil change coupon and because it is closer to my home. The coupon specified "semi-synthetic" oil change, and since I usually use all synthetic, I asked about the difference in price. I was told it would cost me $50. Since this would result in a not-so-free oil change, I opted to go with the semi-synthetic. I can't complain about the service. It is what it is, and I have no reason to believe that anything was done wrong. However, being used to the environment at the dealer, I was a bit dismayed at the size of the waiting room and the general lack of cleanliness (since I was one of the first customers that day.) It was also quite noisy, since the only thing between the waiting room and the service area is a pane of glass. But, free is free, and I don't mean to imply that I've never been in a less than pristine waiting room -- especially when having my car serviced. Although I indicated that I would use this company again, that isn't exactly accurate. I would only use them if the cost was appreciably less than it would be elsewhere. If it costs $90 at ASG for a synthetic oil change and $95 at the dealer, I will continue to have my oil changed at the dealer. The reason is strictly one of comfort. The dealer provides a large, very clean waiting area. ASG's waiting area is smaller than my bedroom, which under ordinary circumstances might not be that bad. However, I had the misfortune of spending my hour waiting with a woman, a toddler and a baby. While the woman played on the computer provided (nice touch), the baby cried, and the toddler (in my opinion) was ill-behaved. Even after her mother asked her to leave me alone, she persisted in standing 6" from me. When I asked her to take the pen she was holding away from my skirt as it was making ink marks, her mother became suddenly attentive. She told her daughter (not soto voce) that some people don't know how to treat children, and are mean. She went on that way for some time, and I chose to ignore her, which is somewhat difficult when you are sitting only a few feet away. Had the area been larger, I would have had the option of moving away. I mention this incident only to point out that my overall experience was negatively affected by the particular circumstances, and not so much by the service itself. That being said, if you are at all claustrophobic and/or don't want to risk getting stuck in an small room with less than pleasant company, I'd recommend you go elsewhere."

"Mark arrived in the late afternoon as agreed and setup the blower door test after initial inspection of the home. While it was running, he then did a thorough inspection (which he allowed me to assist) of each duct and air return, while giving me several pointers on ways to improve efficiency. We then crawl under the house and he inspected the crawlspace for insulation. He recommended sealing the crawl with foam insulation and removal of the fiberglass batting. His inspection included a thermoscan camera to see where air was leaking. We then went into the attic and inspected that insulation amount and ducts, as well as with the camera. We then sealed off the air vents and began measuring each one for leakage, including the cold air return. Afterwords, Mark sent me his final report which include all the items, in order of priority, that needed done to improve my homes efficiency. In this report also showed the payback period of each improvement. We went over the report by phone to ensure I understood it. Mark is also a certified instructor and teaches others how to conduct energy audits. He has a very good business, and does an excellent job. I have since recommended him to a friend, who has also been very satisfied."

"It was wonderful, they were very professional, their timing is very good and I don't have any problem with my furnace. It was all worth it for quality of their work. The service man was really careful in entering the house, he makes sure he has shoes on and guards and told me what he will gonna do. They were very honest."

"My husband met him, and said he was professional and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, he was not able to find the leak. We talked to our plumber and were told that Bill was going to charge us a lower fee than we had originally anticipated, even though he spent an hour or so at our house inspecting our pipes for leaks. By happenstance, we found the leak a couple of days later; it turned out it was from the furnace, which Bill had in theory inspected but perhaps only by sound-- when we pulled out the filter, it was drenched. Without our asking for anything, Bill waived his fee entirely. We expected to pay whether he found the leak or not, as he spent considerable time at our house. I think the oversight with the furnace was an honest mistake and we weren't upset, but were very pleasantly surprised to hear he had waived the fee, and it made us thinkeven more highly of their business practices. <br /> <br />"

"Within a week of agreeing upon the scope of the project, we were underway. Despite my doubts, the project was indeed completed in one week. Considering the scope and size of the project, it is pretty amazing the work was completed, oh and this included zoning the HVAC to the home next door at the same time. Amazing service and professionalism. If you need an insulation review, this is THE provider for the area."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Indianapolis, IN

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
