We were greatly impressed with him and the knowledge he brought to the areas of our concerns. Because of all the stated above we have decided to go with his company for the work we need done. "We scheduled Ian to come up and provide an estimate. We live 50 miles away and we forgot about the appointment. Ian came all the way up only to find us not at home. He laughed it off and simply rescheduled it for us. He was very kind and extremely professional. His crew promptly arrived as per schedule and completed the entire job in one day. Kudos to the entire PI&ES organization."

"It was a pleasure dealing with this company from beginning to end. I originally called for an energy audit to find out why the front rooms in the house I just bought were always so cold and drafty. Their rep, Steve, inspected my attic and crawl space and showed me pictures on his phone that showed the lack of insulation in the attic - including a giant hole from an outside wall that was hollow and opened into the attic. The crew who came to do the work kept me informed of their arrival time (they came from Eugene) and did a great job on the work and clean up. But the best part is the difference it has made in the temperature in my house. Insulating an existing house is expensive and I doubt I will ever recoup the expense; but the improvement in the livability of my home made it well worth it."

"We have been quite pleased with GreenSavers's service and 'product' from beginning to end. We found them through their Chinook Book coupon for a home energy audit. Two nice people came out, poked, prodded, crawled and noted their way around the house. They were pleasant to talk with, and patient with my general energy-saving questions. A week later, one of them returned to present a proposal for a variety of projects. We didn't feel pressured to choose any one project. In fact, we told them that we'd need to pause the process. After a few month's diligent, professional follow-up, they checked in at the right time and with the right news: we might be a contender for the Zonolite Attic Trust (ZAT)'s 50% rebate on removing the vermiculite from our attic, air sealing the space, and then re-insulating. Who would say 'no' to them coming by to pick up a sample of our insulation? For better or worse, the result came back positive; we had vermiculite in our attic. With our permission, GreenSavers confirmed with the ZAT that we were candidates for the rebate. Woohoo! But wait, we were having some remodeling done in the kitchen. Could we please have the vermiculite remediated immediately, but wait on air sealing and re-insulating until that larger project was done? Sure, we were told. No problem. Finally, when GreenSavers came back to do the work, they did so quickly and expertly. As far as I can tell, they sealed the heck out of our two knee wall spaces, and -according to our wishes- preserved some usable storage space by using a different type of insulation. If you're still reading, you get the gist: this is a company you can trust. When my friends ask for referrals on this type of work, I won't hesitate to recommend GreenSavers. For what it's worth, Jennifer was our primary contact. She was very personable, professional and easy to work with."

"Very professional and thorough. I had my attic cleaned out and insulated in two days. Great workers that like their jobs and are company employees, not subs. I'm totally happy with the job they did."

"John was wonderfully efficient and timely in his work. We love our new system and are very pleased with how quiet the system works. The price was very reasonable. John also walked us through how everything worked and answered all our questions. Totally happy and would definitely recommend Evergreen to anyone--in fact, our daughter and son-in-law also installed the same system for the garage door at their home."

"Very well. I opened the door to Jamie covering his shoes, preparing to come into the house. Love that he planned ahead to avoid tracking wet leaves, etc into the house. I have recently had several contractors & vendors and most had to be asked to cover or remove their shoes. He checked out the furnace & confirmed the electrostatic filter was no longer working. We discussed the pros & cons of repairing/replacing the electrostatic filter vs. using regular filters. He brought out the filter the next date I would be at home. I will call them in the future for HVAC service."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Portland, OR

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
