"It went great. Scott showed up at the scheduled time. He installed the circuit box, but had to come back another day to install the whole house surge protector. He was familiar with solar power and made sure we understood how to use the circuit box if the generator is used. He cleaned up after himself and was pleasant to work with."

"This appointment was the free maintenance checkup following the installation in June 2014.  Scott H was my Service Technician.  He was very professional, arriving on time; explaining what he will check during this appointment; explaining his findings; making sure I scheduled my next maintenance checkup, also, making sure I had signed up for the Maintenance Agreement. Additionally, Scott H connected me to Christie in the Alpine Office to make sure they knew that I am an Angie's List member. He was very pleasant and comforting to talk to making sure I understood my system. He also made sure he covered his shoes when entering my home. I give Alpine an "A" rating."

"The men from EcoMaster were very professional, courteous and helpful.  First Jonathan met with us and did a thorough consult that took about two hours.  He looked in our attic and crawlspace and checked our windows.  He recommended adding a bunch of insulation to the attic, touching up the insulation in the crawlspace, and sealing the ducts.  He also suggested making a foam box to put over the attic door to prevent air escaping through cracks in the door.  When we said we still wanted to use the attic for storage, he said the team could rebuild the attic floor on top of the insulation.  He also offered us a free energy audit so we would qualify for a $500 rebate from Duke Energy.  We scheduled all this for a couple weeks later.  The lead member of the team arrived a little late, but called to let us know he was late.  The rest of his team was very late, but the leader was able to get a lot done without them. In the end, they got the job done, rebuilding our attic floor and all.  They were courteous, professional and thorough.  They put down plastic to protect the carpets and cleaned everything up after themselves.  The audit was neat because it showed exactly how much air was moving through our house before and after.  They were able to cut it down by a third, I think, and gave us a few suggestions for how we can cut it down even further ourselves (including making a seal for the chimney).  The whole team was very nice about explaining
what they were doing, and they sent in the information to Duke Energy for our rebate.   They completed the work literally the day
before the weather turned cold (and this is our first year in the house), so I can?t really assess how different the house feels or how the energy bills compare.   I would definitely use Ecomaster again, though their insulation is supposed to last for decades, so I hope I won?t need to!

"Wonderful, it was a very quick and easy process. Brian talked us through it and in no time we had a 3KW system mounted on a frame in the garden and the invertor installed in the basement. Brian talked us through working with our power company to get the system checked and approved and we now get credits from the power company for power we provide to the grid. In addition we are set up to get Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) payments for providing clean energy. We also got a free Energy Audit which helped locate some problems areas we were able to fix. The system has basically cut our energy costs in half. I have hesitation in recommending them to anyone interested in solar energy."

"Scheduled an appt., requesting a quote. He showed up on time, inspect what needed to be done. He said he would call us to give his quote, but we never heard back from him. if we did not hire the other HVAC company, my husband and I would definitely consider using E&J Heating and Cooling to do the job."

"We are pleased to recommend Triangle Reconstruction with our highest praise. It seems too simple to say that they do what they said they’d do, but that’s exactly what happened. Our home is around 50 years old. Ours was a large job - around a month and $30,000. We had Triangle Reconstruction come in after another moisture company provided mold remediation and a humidifier. I wish we’d contacted TR to start with. We provided TR with a structural engineering report. They created a plan to exactly meet all of engineer’s concerns. TR used temporary supports and replaced seal plates, girders, and joists for over half of our home. In addition, they poured footers and built new columns. They also added a few additional girders to firm up our floors. They removed and replaced our insulation. They sealed our porch and crawl space, replaced our vapor barrier, and installed a moisture meter. They wrapped our electrical cords and hung them. The people at TR are remarkable. A+++++"

We had Rick perform all the electrical work needed to bring our home office project to life, which included installing several new outlets, relocating several outlets, and installing a splitter for high speed data.  Rick had to make several trips to our house in coordination with the carpentry work being conducted, and he was very good about scheduling the dates and times for those visits.  Rick always kept us informed as to when he would be coming by and what he needed to do.  Rick was very friendly, professional, and provided us with high quality work.  We will use Rick in the future for all of our electrical needs.

"After my initial phone call, he was able to visit the job site the next day and provided me with a printed estimate detailing each job and how much labor and materials would cost within two business days. Very knowledgeable, I had several random projects covering all kinds of exterior and interior work and he was able to complete them all. Very friendly and easy to get along with, was pleased with his quality of work. We will be using him again for future projects."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Raleigh, NC

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
