"Nathan, John and Kenny removed old systems and installed 2 new HVAC systems in my home in 2 days. I was very impressed by their professional work ethic, knowledge, engineering solutions and especially their "can do" attitudes to anything. This was a complete team effort. Thank You!"

"Jonathan handled our Home Energy Audit and did an excellent job. He was on time, did exactly what he said he would do, and was thorough in his work. I appreciated his relational approach to Eco Three's work. He clearly communicated with me throughout the process and offered solutions for our home moving forward. I would recommend Eco Three to others in my neighborhood. <br />"

"Standard has always been very thorough and professional.  This visit was no different.  We have an old heating unit that is working but not very efficient.  We've never been pressured to replace it.  I love the fact that the technicians do not sell and are not pressured to sell.  My only complaint about this visit is they were about 45 minutes behind schedule. <br />"

"    Overall it went well. Freedom Htg & Cool'g has been my first choice for HVAC service for the past couple of years. Their service techs have impressed me with their ability to identify the root cause of problems, and solve them. Pricing has been fair.  <br />     The old 80K BTU/hr Trane furnace was checked in late October 2015 as part of my service contract on the system. The technician found the heat exchanger showed signs of deterioration, as evidenced by rust and gaps. He showed me what he was looking at with an optical viewer which could see deep inside the heat exchanger. He called out his supervisor, who confirmed that diagnosis. The recommendation was to replace just the heat exchanger or the entire furnace. Since the unit was 20+ years old, it seemed better to replace the entire unit. <br />     The supervisor, Ashley Scott, gave me a quote on a new 60K BTU/hr Amana unit, for $2812. After that meeting, I decided to get a couple more estimates. I went to Angie's List to check out ratings on HVAC contractors. To my surprise I found a coupon for a new Amana Distinctions furnace, up to 80K BTU/hr, from Freedom Heating and Cooling for $1399. It was a 50% off promotion, which I was not made aware of during the previous day's meeting. <br />     I contacted Mr. Scott, and he was unaware of the promotion. He contacted his General Manager, and confirmed that there was an active promotion being run on Angie's List, and that he could honor that if I purchased the deal on Angie's List. We discussed some details, the first was that I wanted the new unit to match my old unit's output of 80K BTU/hr. Secondly, I opted to upgrade from an Amana Distinctions furnace, to the Amana brand furnace which has a stainless steel heat exchanger, for an additional $200, which I would pay directly to Freedom. So, the coupon was $1399, the upgrade was $200, total price was $1599. <br />     With all the details worked out, installation was scheduled a few days later. The install went very smoothly. The lead technician was highly experienced and made sure that the installation was done neatly since it's in open view in the basement, near where we park our cars. The only slight negative to the installation was that the gas line could not be installed as close to the new unit's housing as the old one, making the unit's footprint larger to walk around to get to one of our cars. <br />     Overall, the installation looks good, and the unit runs well. I am glad I checked Angie's List before I did anything, otherwise I believe I might have ended up paying double, or more, for the same system! <br /> <br />"

"Blair provided all the options and pricing of replacing the roof.  <br>No pressure sales tactic, None, period. Ben Watson was the estimator and sales rep for Blair.  <br>The installation crew was on time and efficient. The critical part of the installation was the supervisor Mickey Acker. Mikey treated my home like it was his own. He made sure his crew protected the shrubs, gutters, and removed all debris. He was vigilant with the details and remained onsite during the job. The one exception Mickey needed to leave for half a day and Ben Watson showed up to supervise the rest of the day.  <br>The completed project exceeded my expectations. New drip edge, new deck armor, storm guard leak barrier at eaves, roof flashing, and penetrations, new cobra attic vents, new lifetime pipe flashing, and painted exposed vents and pipes to match roof. The material was all GAF. <br>Excellent Job!! "

"I became a Sentry customer 3-years ago when they visited my home to give an estimate for a whole house generator. It included summer and winter maintenance for 2-years after it was installed.  Not only did I purchase the generator, I also changed my yearly contract for heating and cooling maintenance to Sentry after being with another company for 10+ years.  Their techs are skilled and very knowledgeable about what they're working on, polite, friendly and careful to keep your home clean.  The inspections are very thorough and they answer every question I ask . One very important thing -- the Techs are ALWAYS punctual. <br /> Just as important to me is the ease I experience in calling to make an appointment.  I've happily found that customer service is not just an empty promise from Sentry and its employees. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Birmingham, AL

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
