"I was in the middle of a recent home Refi to get cash out for a new roof and new windows but the credit union wanted a professional report of some interior water damage that was noted during the appraisal process. Donn, from Anderson Home Inspection, was my inspector 20 years ago when I originally purchased my duplex. I contacted Donn and explained the situation and he was very understanding of the need and urgency to get the report for the bank. We scheduled a time 2 days later. Donn quickly assessed the interior water damage and then used his very cool drone to inspect the roof. He took pictures of the roof, interior water stains, and the attic. His report was completed and I submitted it to the credit union. His determination was the interior water stains were cosmetic and not structural. They were due to the poor condition of the valley and chimney flashings and would be corrected this spring when the roof is replaced. Thanks to Anderson Home Inspection my Refi proceeded without further issues and I'm on my way to a new roof and new windows. I have many friends that have used Donn's services and never hesitate to recommend him to anyone."

"It was a pleasure to work with Matt and Rob on our project. Matt was extremely knowledgeable and able to answer all of the questions I had surrounding attic insulation. Matt was very accommodating to our needs as we were in the process of selling our house. They run a fair and honest company, and I'm glad to have had them perform the work. Theirs was the most competitive quote that we received from five different contractors. Both owners are very friendly and professional!"

"When I called and explained the problem, the technician advised me on what to do to get my cooling temporarily working in order to avoid an emergency service call on the weekend. He explained he could work in a service call on Monday morning if I'd be home. As promised, I received a call mid-morning and he arrived 15 minutes later. The service call lasted approximately 20 minutes and everything was back to normal. I've used Urban for other problems and have always been pleased with their promptness, service and pricing. I'd highly recommend giving them a call."

"Very well - done yearly on our Furnace and Air Conditioner. We have lived in our home for well over 44 years. We have had two furnaces installed by Seiders Heating and A/C over those years. They have always done the yearly maintenance and any f/u needed to make sure everything is running well. They even send a reminder card and coupon for the visit."

"I purchased the big deal on Angies List.  We purchased the deal because we have high electric bills year round.  They range from $300-$500/month.  We have a brand new high effeciency propane furnace and new AC unit.  We figured the only reasonable explanation is the lack of insulation in the house. |I was actually pleasantly surprised at how he said my house was very well built and well insulated.  From the stove hood in the winter you can feel the cold air pouring from it.  The dishes in the cabinet next to the stove hood are freezing.  I actually have to warm them up in the microwave before using them or the food turns cold real fast!  Pathetic!  I made it quite clear that this was a major source of contention.  He went on the roof and said the cap for the vent hood needed replaced.  We planned on doing this in the summer.  So, this past summer we had a handyman come out to check it out.  I actually stuffed a whole bunch of insulation in the vent hood over the stove and have not been using it for years.  We took out the insulation and turned it on.  Turns out it vents out the side of the house off the sunroom not through the roof.  He said it needs insulation in the wall above the cabinets and hood(don't know what you call that).  The cabinets don't go all the way to the ceiling, their is about 16inches between the cabinets and ceiling he said we would have to remove the drywall and put insulation throughout the whole area. |     I just saw on the news where a company(didn't catch the name) does a similar inspection for $100.  But, they use an infrared camera to figure out exactly where the heat is being lost.  I wish I had gone with someone else that did that.  While I felt WH Insul. was very honest I think it was a waste of money.  The so called report is a joke.  Consists of a few sentences."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Milwaukee, WI

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
